If we focus solely on my friend Justin's house, the XB1 has 100% of the market cornered. Sony and Nintendo better step it up.

Why would Square Enix have it bundled with the Xbox One when it could be bundled in PS4's?
Not sure I quite get your meaning here. Are you implying that third party bundles on Xbox One can't happen unless the game is also an exclusive?

Completely false, so that can't actually be what you're talking about.

That would be a very attractive bundle. Makes more sense than including Tomb Raider Definitive Edition which everyone has played already by now. What do you think they would price it at? 349?
Yeah, that one will be $349, two big games (which are also new) will justify the price. They'll launch it at least 1 week earlier too for maximum exposure (seems the standard for MS bundle).

I also think they'll have $299 SKU, but this one will be 500GB plus only one game (most likely gears). It has less value, but it will have an appeal for price-sensitive people.

Don't know. I think the meaning is that they are getting the money from MS much like Ubisoft did for AC.

MS is trying to increase TR sales on their platform, an IP that usually favours PS when it comes to sales much like AC. They also get a timed exclusive IP that is favoured in Europe.

If the game were to come out on both the Xbox One and the PS4 at the same time, meaning that Square did not take the exclusive deal, why would they go with Microsoft on bundling or even marketing the game when Sony could just as likely get marketing rights?

Again, assuming this is an alternate world where Square turned down Microsoft's big bag of cash.

I think people should also keep in mind that a psychical bundle has more value than a one with a DD code .
So that could also be a factor .

btw, the kmart thing just got me thinking, the pricing of the 3ds for what it is is ridiculous, at this point the gba and ds were like 100 dollars yet the 3ds is still 200. their profit margin is just crazy right now, i think they should drop the price when the holidays come up

Is this purely a guess or is there anything that makes you think that this will happen?
My reasoning is:

1) Fallout is a big deal, it will move hardware, and MS acquiring marketing deal without bundling the game (or making limited bundle) seems like a big waste and a stupid move. So bundling Fallout 4 will most likely happen.

2) While TR2 bundling makes little sense while MS has Fallout 4 marketing (in US), SE wouldn't have agreed to this exclusivity deal unless MS had already guaranteed big number of sales. So bundling TR2 will surely happen.

3) Add to that these two games releases at the same day.

If the game were to come out on both the Xbox One and the PS4 at the same time, meaning that Square did not take the exclusive deal, why would they go with Microsoft on bundling or even marketing the game when Sony could just as likely get marketing rights?

Huh? It's like MS can't marketing deal for multipats. I mean they they can and they already have marketing deal for 3rd party games (Fallout 4, R6, The Division...)

EDIT: OK, I get it. Your scenario: SE didn't accept exclusivity deals, why would they accept marketing deal? The answer is simple: because SE will sell more copies than when it's exclusive plus they'll get money and free marketing from MS. Really, it would be no different than any other marketing deal

Why is everyone assuming Microsoft has some marketing rights for Fallout 4 ?

When Sony or Microsoft has marketing rights, the first thing you see is the PlayStation or Xbox logo combined with every video of the game, that's the case for SW Battlefront or even Assassin's Creed Syndicate. EDIT : oddly I don't find Xbox logos on Evolve or The Division video, I assumed it was the case so maybe MS is less intrusive with those things.

I'm aware we saw Todd Howard at the Xbox conference but it wasn't for some early beta or DLC, it was just for the modding functionality wich will eventually come to PS4 too. The Fallout 3 Xbox 360 gift does not mean they got marketing rights either (see Just Cause 2 with Just Cause 3).

I don't see any sign of a real marketing partnership between MS et Bethesda for Fallout 4. Also, according to Square Enix, isn't Microsoft supposed to pull all it's passion and advertising power behind Rise of the Tomb Raider the same day ? An Xbox One bundle with Fallout 4 would be the silliest thing to do if you want to promote Lara in november.

Yeah, but I guess I'm just thinking that at that point, they'd try to get with Sony.

Or they'd rather not risk killing the franchise and grow it instead? Just because you don't agree to give exclusivity to one platform holder doesn't mean you refuse to work with them at all.

Also you should look at it from MS perspective: If your plan is to heavy bundle the game why not just acquire the marketing rights? It should be cheaper.

E3 stage time and exclusive/ times content usually means marketing deal. MS has rainbow six, and fallout. Not sure about just cause. It's not really big enough to put too much weight behind

With all the big third party marketing deals Sony has struck this year, I wonder if this will be the first December where they beat MS?

I'm going to have to check but whichever home console sells the most in November usually sells the most in December. 2013 was different as the PS4 was supply constrained.

EDIT: 2009, PS3 outsold the 360 by 50k in December.

EDIT 2: 2010, 360 sold the most in November, but was then outsold by the Wii in December. So yeah, besides that and 2013, whoever wins November is going to win December barring supply and a crazy ass Christmas deal.

@CosmicQueso: Can you give us an idea on how 1TB XBO SKU is doing against the default 500GB?
Please talk some numbers too :p

09 was the $299 Slim release, so that. It outsold the 360 in September and October as well. August, the release month, was a slight 360 win (5k).

Also December of that year was when the Wii did 3.81m. Crazy year.

If there's no price parity, I don't see it happening. Parents and Black Friday shoppers are looking for deals, making them more price-sensitive than normal.
I expect we'll see a $100 price drop before the holidays, like they did for the PS3 and PS2. I feel like I remember reading GopherD reject this, though.

So the PS4 is close to outselling the XB1 2:1 worldwide yet Sony is sweating it because they will do a price drop? LOL, ok.
They're winning in essentially every single market it's sold. They're close to 2:1 worldwide.

They couldn't care less.
Oh? The US is a major region, you know. You can't honestly say they couldn't care less about winning US.

That's ridiculous.

US only makes up for about 34% of their overall sales. EU and ROTW make up the 66%. Now I wouldn't go as far as saying US doesn't matter to them because of course it does. But the US market is much more important to Microsoft since it's over 50% of their sales.

These numbers wont make Sony sweat. Their competitor dropped 150$ and bundling a lot of games and it is still not enough to outsell PS4 at 399. Barring a clear shift Sony will likely ride out this year at 399 and keep their profits as high as possible.

The thing is they are winning US. If there is a price drop it would not be because they are sweating it. They weren't sweating it when they announced the PS2 price drop either. It means they simply can lower price because of reduced BoM/cost.

I'll quote for this for these discussing "sweating" and "don't care".
This discussion of who's "sweating", "desperate" or not is seriously the least productive thing that can't be talked about in this thread. It's a bunch of semantics based on different perspectives. Makes no sense to split hairs over whether or not a company is "sweating".
@Pathfinder: The price drop have been planned for at least year now (judging by Verendus posts), and it was planned to happen this year.

Well, to answer that question you have to assume that Square knows what they're doing. The fact that they went exclusive on a platform that is pretty much dead in their franchise's strongest market suggests they weren't very smart. In any case, marketing deals and exclusive bundles do not always need to go with the largest install base to be considered valid. Fallout 4 is a prime example. So is AssCreed.

They obviously want TR to be a system mover, or at least a way to convince folks to jump on board. Exclusivity wasn't to thank the Xbox faithful, it's to make folks more likely to buy an Xbox One. Bundling does that job as well. Seems like an awful lot of shit to wade through if you were always planning on giving the bloody thing away for free anyway.

The US makes up, like only a third of the PS4's global sales. It's significant, but I'm pretty sure Sony won't be kicking themselves because the XB1 is quite close in the US. Some people seem to still have the US=WW mentality.

That's ridiculous.

Gaming is global business. Sony arguably does the best out of the three console makers in balancing the needs of each region. But the expection will always be if you have a price drop in one region, the others will soon follow. So Sony knocking off $50-100 of the price of the PS4 in the US would see consumers in the regions where Xbox and WiiU arent competing expecting the same. Sales would slow in EU while consumers wait for their price drop. That doesnt benefit the global sales of the PS4 at all.

ESO still pulling a bigger audience on the XB1, that FFXIV effect still?
I always figured that Elder Scrolls has a larger audience on the Xbox platform, since it has been there longer than on Playstation, plus all the Skyrim issues on ps3.

But unless you are talking about the modding thing, there is no exclusive/timed content here. Fallout 3 had all the extensions coming to Xbox 360 before PS3 if I recall correctly. Still not sure about that Xbox partnership.

And Rainbow Six ? There is no deal with that game ! They have something (early beta) for The Division though. Look at those two trailers from the same official Ubisoft channel.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate [trailer gamescom] ---> PlayStation logo

Rainbow Six Siege [trailer gamescom] ---> No Xbox logo

Anyway, Xbox has already announced a huge amount of bundles and SCEA is still sleeping for now. If they don't go big with Black Ops III and SW Battlefront they are a lost cause.
