After Chapter 2 started I got a bunch of the earlier missions but now they say stuff like EXTREME or SUBSISTENCE now. Do I need to play them to progress the story and see the ending or naw?

How does this work? Are there certain side-ops I need to do?

You don't need to do them, but you'll have to do side ops instead.

your given the choice between replay main missions or grind side ops.
awesome pacing, totally not padding.

True but could've been alot worse, it could have been PW =/

Question regarding missions and bases.

I’m currently at mission 15, so please no big spoilers.

Up until the release of Bloodborne, MGS: Ground Zero was my favourite experience on my PS4. What I really liked about it, was how huge and complex the base area felt.

Until now, at mission 15 in MGS: TPP, all the mission areas have felt really small and really easy to navigate. Now, I haven’t seen everything on the two maps, so my question is:

Will there come any missions in areas that feel huge and complex further into the game?

Right now (even though the gameplay, lightning and animations are great) I'm feeling a bit disappointed at the map design. The size of areas that the missions are taking place in is small and separated with large distances of nothing. There’s no interior, and most of the time it’s really easy to guess where the target is hided.

I hate that this is killing my desire to play the game – which is why and asks this question.

I asked yesterday but didn't really get an answer, does anything interesting ever open up on your mother base? It basically seems like a bunch of closed off platforms with target shooting side missions as the only thing of interest.

Then again I only have the bare minimum for each so I'm hoping there is a little more to it eventually.

I think I found the purpose of the dwalker. it's to grind side ops by going in lazy and loud. it was introduced by the game as a stealth tool which never made any sense to me. I don't understand why they try to sell it like that. It has no perceivable advantages as a stealth tactic compared to being on foot.

Has anyone else equipped their tranq sniper rifle with a suppressor and had it become weirdly unreliable? It seems like about half the time I can land the most perfect, squared-up headshot you could ask for, but the person will only be knocked out for like twenty seconds. Other times it's just as potent as any other tranq gun. It's the Renov ICK-X, or whatever it's called, with a suppressor attached in the Customization menu.

In other news, the Riot SMG firing rubber bullets, with a suppressor and a X4.0 rifle scope attached is my new go-to shootin' iron. I just hope I'm going to unlock something with a more durable suppressor at some point so I can spread it around to all my weapons, because it's no good being able to deploy with 270 rubber bullets if the suppressor still breaks after like 20.

So I've played a few MGS games as a kid (never completed any) so I don't really know anything about the "story". However I hopped on the Hype Train for MGS V and bought it.

Any summary videos I should waych or articles I should read? Or will it still be enjoyable without knowing too much detail surrounding the MGS story?

So far I've played around 15 hours and I'm only 7%. Gameplay wise this is the best MGS ever, but part of me misses linear story driven games of the past.

Someone earlier posted a gif of the rocket arm hitting like 5-7 guards. Does anyone have that again? I tried looking in here but this thread is super active.

What do the dots next to missions mean? And why are some missions I finish still not grayed out despite the checkmark?

Hey guys, quick question: should I play MGS3 before V? That is the only MGS I havent played.

I also haven't played MGS3, and I'm not having a problem understanding the story or anything, but this game is really making me want to play MGS3. I'll probably end up playing it after I finish MGSV. It's a lot like Peace Walker, where there are references to MGS3, but the major plot points it's referencing are also explained in the game (or you already know about them from discussions about the game).

Basically all you need to know from MGS3 is that Snake meets Ocelot there, what happens with The Boss, and the founding of
Cipher
.

So, what's the general community consensus of this game?

Thought it would be one of the best MGS.

Best in gameplay by far. The variety of ways to go about missions is staggering thinks to open world, buddy system, drops, and weapon development.

Preferred strategy after getting quiet and upgrading her to have a tranq sniper rifle: Quiet fires tranqs from one direction while I, as Snake, fire off tranqs from different snipe positions = god mode infiltration tactic. I just waltz right in and get what I need and go.

I have done everything I can think of to unlock mission 46 and no go. Almost all side ops I can complete are done, mother base is upgraded a lot, story missions including. 45 done.

I have no idea

White dots just mean they're newly added. Yellow dots mean they're important. Sometimes completed sideops will become available again, so they reappear as newly added again, but you can see that they've been completed before.

The reason why sideops get refreshed from time to time even after they have been completed is because they always want activities available when you're free roaming. It's totally optional.

Need some help with the boss fight right at the start of act 2,
The Skulls in the....airfield? How on Earth am I supposed to take these guys down? I'm decimated almost immediately and don't have the firepower to make a dent even in their armour. I've been trying over and over and I'm nearly at a point of just giving up on the game entirely.

You either need to solve the 'puzzle'
of what's causing the disease and quarantine everyone that fits the bill
or finish the next few story missions literally right this second.
I've tried to quarantine everyone who
spoke kikongo but I can't do anything else?
help!

Kaz and ocelot: Aw shit boss this guy did some really evil stuff that effects you, your gonna one hear this!!So I put it on a tape for you, instead of telling you right now!

The storytelling is almost as bad as Destiny's. At least this game has the real story inside of the game (tapes), and not on some random website.

two options

give quiet the sinful butterfly and just dodge the skulls until she starts making them drop like flies

d-walker and wear the battle dress with a shield on your back, you'll be basically invincible

I swear Quiet only helps after I get caught! She stays in one stop and when I call her she never comes what the hell.
you have to tell her when to fire once shes in her sniping position.

iDroid to position her + R1/RB or L1/LB (which ever button isnt the button you use for binoculars) to tell her to fire once she has sights on someone.

For those who have finished CH 25

when ocelot said "incredible boss. Thanks to you, the number of new victims has plummeted' does that mean I'm good?

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Having played through GZ last week for all trophies, I can sympathize here. Only 7 missions in myself and nothing I've seen in TPP has really matched the feel of infiltrating that GZ base. The ramshackle houses and tiny outposts just don't compare so far. It's unfair given the scale difference, and a few major locations have been alright, but that GZ base was incredibly designed for such a small space.

I am starting to question the necessity of the open world much at all, over having bite-sized and well tuned environments as in GZ. Especially considering you choose missions from a menu rather than discovery, and very few even take advantage of the open space as I have seen. Many improvements were made in the time between GZ and TPP, but no mission yet has engaged me in a way that GZ has, especially doing S-rank runs.

Ugh, so I can log into Konami's shitty servers now, but the FOB tutorial always causes a soft lock after I confirm purchase. Only way to solve it is to close application, restart and disconnect before opening the idroid All of which means there's no point in logging in... GG, Konami.
