Super Mario Maker |OT| Miyamoto Simulator 2015

Has anyone recreated actual Mario games in this? I think it'd be rad to have smw, mario 3 in this game as a whole.

The 10 level uploads per player limit pretty much kills any project of recreating any game completely (and you know that various aspects of them would need to be tweaked, right?).

I've ended up skipping through a good chunk of levels every time I play 100 Mario above Easy. The few gems I've run into probably aren't worth running into poorly done treks through mobs of enemies and fireballs everywhere. When I play Easy, all I get are coin levels.

I'm also pretty sick of 1-1 BUT... variants now tbh.

Here's another level, called "Sproingy Summit": 4E23-0000-0027-B154

This is a pretty light difficulty level that has you carrying trampolines a bit. It uses interleaved overworld and underworld areas to imply a continuous mountain climb.

My previous courses:

Good design that really made it seem like climbing a mountain.

Ok, my first actual level, outside of the musical stuff...

The Great Train Heist

FB48-0000-0028-4BC3

YQJuPE3.jpg

Took me forever to make. It's a "story" level, sort of. You enter an airplane hangar, board a plane and catch up to a train with a shipment of coins, which you loot. :)

I tried something kind of experimental...I ran a track along the bottom of the screen below the train with enemies moving underneath you, to try to imply forward motion of the train. Ultimately I don't know if it comes across that well, though you can judge for yourself.

Not intended to be a very difficult level, just a fun thing!

Welp, I can't beat my first uploaded level anymore for some reason.
Only one other person has cleared it yet. I'd like to get some GAF pointers.

Is there any advantage in playing expert 100 Mario challenges other than... for the challenge? I mean, i can already unlock costumes on easy.

Last time I'm going to pump my castle level. Meant as a challenging level for beginners, requires some patience in the beginning and at the end some quick thinking (even though I literally spell it out). It's a good course if your sick of the punishing ones! My favorite level I've made so far! Real quick and 5 minutes tops after you stop falling for some traps :p

Can someone beat this?

It is not hard but no one has yet.

Beat it. I had fun, although I really have trouble with the dry bones in Mario world. Too many bones, etc. to keep track of.

Btw, tip for folks who are disappointed in the lack of completions of their levels. Just add a powerup or two at the BEGINNING of the level. Normally Mario games give you a good number of powerups along the way (around 2-3 imo), one of which at the beginning, in addition to a checkpoint. Did you play Mario games as Small Mario the whole way? I definitely didn't. Considering we don't have checkpoints in this game, it's even more critical. Asking the player to complete the level without making a single mistake (as many levels I've seen, although the average GAF level is a lot better about this) is not going to result in many completions.

I've made four levels so far.

The first one is just short and easy, even though some friends did not get it right away. The second one....can be a headache, lol. The third one is just fun and shouldn't be too hard to figure out and the fourth is my most challenging on yet. That said, i bet you guys have it beat in no time.

Would be great if ya'll check it out

At the end I scarified my mushroom to reach the goal lol
Hah yeah that's why I did the fire flower, so that could be an option at the end. :)

Interesting little level. You did well with the various doors resetting everything. People tend to forget that about puzzles and you'll often just get stuck and have to kill yourself. I ended up also using my mushroom to get to the flag at the end just like another poster did earlier but enh, I got the gist of it.
Thanks for the feedback! Gonna make a new level and try some of the ones posted in the thread soon. This game is great.

My first two levels. Should you enjoy them (and I hope you do!), stars would be much appreciated.

Name: Manor Madness
Challenge: Find Yoshi & Finish The Level With Him
Difficulty: Low
Description: This is the level which came together while I was working my way through all the unlocks, meaning it's packed with almost every tile/enemy/item in the game. There's no cohesion to it, but I enjoyed playing it, so, after some refinement, stuck it online. See if you can find the secret room with three 1ups!
Design Philosophy: I experimented with a few optional 'puzzles', which came together quite well, I thought. Each can be beaten fairly easily without working out my intentions, but using the environment/throwable enemies intelligently and you can save a little time. If you can get the clown ship, you can finish the rest of the level with no obstacles at all, but it's difficult to pull off and mostly there to tempt people into making a rash decision during a tense moment. I tried to include a couple of alternate paths as well.

Code: 3509-0000-0028-38F8

Name: Head Hop Heights
Challenge: Collect All 35 Coins
Difficulty: Low-Medium (higher if you haven't mastered the trampoline timing)
Description: This is the first level I designed, prior to most of the unlocks. The main challenge comes from the sections where you have to use flying koopas and/or trampolines to cross chasms. Once you've got the timing down, it's pretty simple.
Design Philosophy: I wanted to do a Bopopolis-style level, but for my first submission, focused first and foremost on keeping the level fun and not exceedingly complex. To compensate for the lack of checkpoints, I put the main area of difficulty in the middle, with everything thereafter relatively straightforward. The coin challenge isn't difficult when you know where the coins are, and for those hidden initially out of sight or at the apex of a timed jump, I tried to make sure you could go back and try again once the relevant koopa had regenerated. I tried to introduce mechanics asymetrically, so you wouldn't always know what was coming up next.

I've got a level in the making, don't want to burn out and do it all today though. Looking forward to sharing it.

The best level I've seen in this thread is still Sacrifical Yoshis BTW, very nice theme, reasonable difficulty, unique

Here's my first course, "A Crafty Goomba Disguise": E6F5-0000-001B-E015

Mario's facing another castle, and this time he's taking the employee entrance! However, he'll need that Goomba disguise in order to bypass the security checkpoints. Can you make it through without being unmasked?

Great concept and decently challenging. I really like this one.

Just beat it if that helps. This is once again asking the player to one tile jumps, having no forgiveness via powerups or otherwise to allow the user to even make a single mistake. Like for example, I have no idea what the purpose of the giant goomba that's bouncing around, but for me, it just makes the jump harder. Also, what were intending with the green shell & pipe with the firey piranha in that same section. Killed myself enough times trying to mess around that I skipped that. If I was on the upper-side of the map, there was at least one blind spot into a huge gap. While I didn't run into the sideways springs, I feel like they're almost just an extra annoyance/being mean as opposed to challenging anyone.

For example, I'd at least take out the last fire piranha in the stack of Koopa Troopas at the end. But hey it's day 1/2, so I'm expecting folks to get a bunch better as time goes on :), especially since you're asking for feedback and trying to improve. Sorry if the commentary was a bit harsh though.

I beat it. I don't blame others for not. Without knowing the trick of the giant Koopa shell breaking the solid blocks (I discovered this by fluke) people resort to trying the pipe or attempting to jump over the impossibly tall wall or thinking the pipe takes you somewhere (someone put a comment about such). The presence of the spring made me think I needed it. The Koopa room also gives incentive to killing the Giant enemy room with a shell which of course makes the level impossible to complete, or for you to even get out of that room. You wouldn't believe how many round about ways I looked for getting past the half way point.

In my testing I never killed the giant koopa.

...did I just get played ? That's a pretty tough level dude.

Maybe try using coins to show the intended route because I couldn't figure how to wall jump past those koopas.

Thanks for the tip. That was the hardest part for me.

I couldnt figure it out haha

Beat it. I had fun, although I really have trouble with the dry bones in Mario world. Too many bones, etc. to keep track of.

I did it. Nice level though one issue:
If a player kills the giant Koopa Troopa with a small Koopa shell it becomes impossible to complete the stage.

I just beat it.

And I hate you.

Damn, sorry for the stress. ahahaha. My first upload.

I have levels! Any playing and criticism would be really appreciated!

Kingdom Sky - My first course, although tweaked a little since the first time I completed it! A fun little romp through the open sky of SMB, not too challenging but it has a few tricks. [680B-0000-0028-54BD]

Underworld Dungeon - A cramped little underground level with a few traps! Again, not tremendously challenging, but it can catch you off-guard if you're not careful! [84B3-0000-0028-8027]

Spin Jump for Your Life! - My only non-SMB course so far, this one is tough! It requires precise spin jumps to make it to the end, but I think it's a fair challenge. It's not Kaizo or anything, I promise. [EDE4-0000-001B-022C]

Waluigi's Wacky World - As soon as I unlocked Waluigi's Mystery Mushroom costume, I knew I had to make something for him. I tried to make a stage that was a little off-beat in this one. [014A-0000-001C-9CAD]

The Megalithic Castle - Definitely my hardest "standard" level so far, this one is... well, it's a big castle! Make it to the end and fight the big Bowser boss! [87B2-0000-0021-E6A0]

Ugh, fine!

Which Way Waters:
A7C1-0000-0025-07C9

I wasn't really focused while making it, so enemy placement is just kinda random. I also originally went into the level trying to make it more complex, but I got bored super quickly and just slapped together the final section.

Lol it was fun and worth it to learn the Giant shell will destroy those blocks but maybe try a pipe that keeps shooting out giant koopas down there so the solution is evident and possible even if the player tries the other methods.

After trying to beat Super Meat Bros a hundred times I don't think anything can stress me out.

I wanted to use the pipe to get to the other side but couldn't found out how to link the pipes then I actually found out it breaks the walls by mistake and you are right about the giant koopas from a pipe. ahhhhhh. Thanks.

Pointless complaint: I understand why the Pokemon don't have noises (to the extent that I realize their IP operates outside of Nintendo..) but what bugs me is that the Inklings and Squid don't have a Power up noise. There is a victory theme!

Thanks for playing/ beating the level. Most of what you said is actually pretty accurate. Giant Goomba doesn't serve much purpose, other than making it harder to get the hidden spring in the breakable block.

But yeah, most of the first part is unnecessary to get through as long as bounce from the flying koopa on the top. The starting firey piranha plant is just there as a warning that more are coming. So did you complete the level with the sideway spring at the bottom of the level?

On my featured courses I think I see one by Koji Igarashi? It could always be fake but the account is IGA and the level is Castlevania 3 styled. In case anyone is interested the ID is E983-0000-0012-FB0D.

Can someone beat this?

It is not hard but no one has yet.

I was very confused by the bit with the large koopa. Originally thought I needed to bring the spring up and jump up that high wall...Eventually figured out what to do but found out I can completely stop progression by taking one of the earlier flying koopas and throwing it down into that crevice. I don't think he respawns so I had to restart the level. If you could make him respawn through a pipe, it'd solve that problem.

Wall jumping bits were pretty good. Placement of the koopas was sublime, felt real nice sliding down and jumping in between them.
