I just had my first go at a "Don't Move" level or whatever, I haven't put in any of the sound effects like the other ones have but I'm pretty happy with it so far, will probably add to it later:

pretty cool! my favorite part was in the middle when mario jumped he kinda got off the shell and wiggled his legs then got back on the shell lol

Back again! So my love for the classic Mega Man games is starting to show while creating some of these levels, and I'd really like for everyone to try my faithful recreation of Air Man's stage from Mega Man 2. Please Enjoy and leave any comments or feedback

This is pretty good. Enemy's seem placed in logical spots and are relatively challenging. Each door leads to the next area, so it's not a maze, but it does feel like you're traveling all over a haunted mansion because of it. Variety in obstacles/ideas/gimmicks is also nice.

Thank you! I thought about doing a maze but decided against it because I haven't played a good one in SMM yet. It's hard to create a maze that's not too confusing so people don't get frustrated. I might give it a shot the next time I do a Haunted Mansion style level.

I Wanna Be The Guy

U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Good idea here with the no death/ instant retry setup. Sets the foundations for a more involved cape stage.
I'm not sure if I went outside "the rules" so to speak near the end where after fumbling the flying bit immediately after diagonal descent through the sawblades I just flew up the exit from the ground level.

More importantly: I played Flying Spring 2 which is a huge improvement on the original idea, just the right level of obstacles ramping up in logical fashion, very good.
Just reuploaded the stage so the end has to be beaten the wy I intended lol.

You were literally the only one to play it so the deleted stats didn't seem like a big deal. Please beat it again! Other people too this time preferably...

Reposting this level for a new page. I know, I know, shameless self-promotion is annoying, but I feel like this level is pretty solid, and I'd love to get some feedback and stars on it. It's hard as hell to get anyone to actually play your stage, and it's even harder to get those stars (I really want to hit 50 and increase my upload limit). The flow of this level is tons of fun, I've probably run through it around 50 times just for kicks (crazy right, a course creator likes his own course).

For the record, if any of you do end up running this level and starring it, I would be more than happy to return the favor for your levels. Send me a PM with your code and we'll get each other's stars flowing!

I made a new level and I'm really quite pleased with it. It's a fair bit easier than my first one and as you'll see, it's heavily inspired by Super Mario 64's Tiny-Huge Island. Give it a go and let me know what you think, please!

My 1st level again, as well. For those who like a tough but fair challenge...

I've made four SMB3 stages and now four SMB stages. I wanted to have something to go in my 1-1 slot, but I didn't want to make another 1-1. This is more like a 3-1 or so in difficulty that only gets harder if you go on the optional path. It's a SMB airship level, no auto scroll. Let me know what you think.

Time to check out some GAF levels.

How do I search for a user and start following them? On the Makers screen I can only view the top ranked makers and view people I'm following, but I have no clue how to find someone who is not a top ranked maker and begin following them.

New level. Would like to get some feedback here or in Miiverse.

Big Brain Academy Bros.

Not a platformer but a logic game. And Dr.Lobe is the protagonist. Can you answer everything correctly?
Very clever, nice idea!
Unfortunately on my first try, where you have to count the 1ups they weren't bouncing but moving on the ground and two were exactly behind each other so at first I was wondering why there was no "two" option but on the second try they were bouncing...

Couldn't really enjoy this one. The idea is solid, but the enemy spam kinda kills it for me. If that's what you're going for, fine, but if you want it to be difficult, while also reasonable, consider adding a little more focus to obstacle placement.

Thanks, and agreed. I was aiming for a tricky but short course, though I prefer more adventurous levels with different pacing throughout personally. But learned a lot again with this one (and unlocked more stuff to the creation mode...).

I'm sure this has probably been discussed in the thread, but I'm still not clear about how unlocking new features works. It seems like my copy of the game -- which did get the update -- is still holding out things each day. I've played it every day since Friday and only have two rows of elements, three stage types (ground, underground, water) and the SMB and NSBMU skins. :(

Liked it! Going through the small room first as a preview to the larger room is a great idea. Wasn't a fan of that drop into the first big room, but on the second small room it occurred to me that the chomper (I forget the name of those things) was just taking the place of the mushroom, so I avoided it since. Nice work.

I've made three and my completion rates are pathetic. Either everyone sucks or I'm just amazing.

Spam the blocks into a level. Just randomly stroll and place blocks for 2+ minutes. Will unlock super fast.

Here's my newest, only my second really, only took like...4 hours. (This game is bad for time management)

Running is Easier than Walking
7CC7-0000-0035-F709

It initially started as a running tutorial, using single gaps to show that you can run over them. But while building I noticed it was still generally doable while walking too, so I went for it being fun while running while still being possible to walk through the whole thing...which actually makes it much more of a challenge. But while running it opens up a bunch of possible jumping paths, without being obvious about it. Nearly everything in the last stretch in particular can be used for one path or another
and there's a blind jump shortcut or three to it
, there's also a few "ideal" running/jumping sections earlier but nothing like that last part.

Feedback either here or Miiverse would be appreciated, latter is easier to check of course (albeit shorter posts) but I try to keep up with the thread too. Course there's been like 20 pages since last I looked.

Thanks! The plant at the drop is supposed to make you small, so that the big bits seem even bigger, but I didn't want them to be unavoidable to the player if they already entered the pipe as small Mario, otherwise that would be insta-death and no fun.

Essentially the shrinking plant is there for people who want to play the level in the spirit it's intended, but players are equally welcome to avoid it if they wish.

You have to find one of their courses, then tap their Mii in the top right, then tap the heart in the top right of the screen.

Woke up this morning to see that there were over 100 attempts on my stage last night, but still a 0% clear rate. But most deaths were at the easiest part (the beginning). Surely someone on GAF can clear it? This one:

Just managed to finish it. Did it twice in the end because I forgot to leave a comment the first time :p

I spent all day on a single-screen level yesterday, and I like the way it turned out.

I wanted to channel Chip's Challenge.

Also, more elaborately, a little dungeon where you have to gather the shells and throw them through this funnel:

Three Keys: 0855-0000-001B-F8C6

and a little joke level utilizing the Miiverse:

Please enjoy! Feedback appreciated!

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try.

One other question. Once you upload a course, can you update it and re-upload it? Or are you forced to create a whole new save for the updated version?

Thumbs up for Ghost Pit, though some variation/exploration would give it more "oomph" for me. But nice run as is!

Thanks for the feedback and the star man! I agree, the stage is a bit sparse (as I was building it I actually started putting in more ghosts just for visual interest) as I was really focused on simply making the level flow well. Of course, a level that flows well and looks great would be even better. I'll work on that for my next stage.

Of course, there is a secret right at the start that I imagine most people are going to miss...

Uploaded a new level this afternoon. This one is a (mostly) vertical level featuring the always carnivorous ball and chain: Chain Chomp's Tower of Terror

8D38-0000-0038-58B1

Some notes:

Tried to limit myself to building mostly vertical gameplay spaces.
Used a single enemy but with different variations and situations to keep each area feeling unique.
Hid 3 1UP mushrooms to collect (seriously...patch in some Star Coins or something Nintendo).

Enjoy!

Not bad. A little too straightforward for my liking, but everything comes together as it should.

Here's mine:

Title: Raiding Rocky's Air Ride
Style: Super Mario World: Airship
Difficulty: Easy-Medium
Idea: You've been tailing Rocky Wrench's airship for months, and you finally found them anchored high in the mountaintops. Board the ship and take back what they've stolen from you! (And of course you can steal some of their treasure as well)
Secrets: Well you'll have to find those for yourself. : )

I just played what is my favourite stage so far, and I recommend everybody go search for it.

536C-0000-0026-02C7

It's called "Bob-omb Battlefield N64", by "André GX", and it's an incredibly well-designed 2D version of said level from Super Mario 64. You even have to boot King Bob-omb off the top of the mountain to clear the level.

Do you have the ID number?

I kind of wish the game had a thumbs down option. So I'd know what levels I've made that people like, and don't like. And also so I could say to someone "this needs work" without having to star and comment saying "Your level sucks!" because I don't want to be rude.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the Mario trail is genius. Making properly placing enemies and platforms for timed jumps really easy.

Here's mine:

Played and starred. Very well done level. The look is well thought out and gives the stage a great atmosphere without feeling cluttered. The gameplay feels great too, not too hard, but still enough challenge so you have to think.

Loving the game so far. At first I was bummed at some of the missing features (no checkpoints, even!?), but I ended up having fun working within the given restrictions.

Anyway, here's my first finished level:

"Bowser's Creepy Clock Tower"
WVW69iYsjMcIwXGTrC

140C-0000-0035-1DCA

An auto-scroll level designed around a visual theme. It took a lot of adjustments and playtesting to get the moving elements to sync up correctly with the scrolling! Tell me what you think!

Forcing the player to memorize the course through trial-and-error was something I really wanted to avoid, so I had my friends blind-playtest the level during development. I recommend others do the same, if possible - seeing others play through your course gives a ton of insight!

I'm planning on playing through some levels in this topic when I get the chance, and give out some well-deserved medals :)

Stupid question: Are these levels I'm playing in the 10 Mario Challenge made by Nintendo, or other people?!

10 Mario Challenge = sample courses from Nintendo (you find them in the Coursebot, hit select (or use the drop-down menu at the top) - play eight times to unlock them all and access the NWC levels in coursebot.
100 Mario Challenge = user levels pulled from the net

the average person who looks at a name like pizza co. is not gonna expect something like that. unless you were trolling with that name.

its hard enough getting past the first part, but then having 2 bosses????

I can't for the life of me figure out if there is a way to zoom out (view wise pull back to see more of the level you're making) in creation mode.

Anyone know? Finally unlocked all components and have been frustrated by no zoom.

I finished the 100 Mario Challenge on easy and normal, but can't seem to finish on hard difficulty. The amount of troll levels on there is hilarious. Some levels are genuinly cool but around 80% is stupid level design designed to have a laugh with trolling. I decided to skip levels more regularly now. I usually want to give the designer a chance and see the grand plan, but I have too much faith in the internet I guess.

Did play some really good levels though, and given some time, this will be the game of the forever You can play this endlessly.

This idea has likely already been done, but in case it hasn't, I made a stage where you play as an arwing swimming through rings, etc. It shouldn't be too difficult at all! Let me know what you guys think.

I managed to finish by skipping levels (sometimes before even attempting), but even then, it was so difficult. I will now only play on normal.

Have a few errands to run and then I'm going to go through some levels as they're posted when I'm around. Would greatly appreciate that if I leave you feedback, you take one of my courses for a spin as well, assuming you have the time.

I tend to go through periods of working on my own level forever, then going through GAF stuff for a few days. I mostly avoid random levels and don't play 10/100 Mario challenges so my level exposure has been through you all, primarily. It's pretty fun seeing everyone's personalities in their levels!

This was awesome! Not only pretty close to CV stage 1, but also has hidden one-ups, a few optional paths, and great use of semi-solid platforms as decoration. The time you've taken with this absolutely shows. As I posted on Miiverse, this is great, and more people should play it.
