For Wii U:
Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival
-
Star Fox Zero
Pokken Tournament
Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem
Legend of Zelda U

Am I missing anything? Hardly 'tons' of games, and nothing that is really going to set the world on fire either. From all indications Mario Tennis has been thrown together quickly and is pretty lacking on features, or anything that sets it apart from previous games in the series anyway. The Animal Crossing spinoff was almost definitely made alongside an NX game imo. Pokken and SMTxFE were both co-developed with outside teams, meaning those devs are working on their own games as well. Pikmin 4 is a possibility for Wii U I suppose. Twilight Princess HD is all but confirmed at this point, and my guess is that it was made to help pad out the drought before NX launch next year.

3DS has even less 1st party stuff coming, although I do think there will probably be some surprises here. Rhythm Heaven localisation seems likely too, if only to help fill the gaps. Luckily there are a fair few 3rd party games coming this and next year that will help too.

Directs cover more than first party, also. They're also a platform to show off trailers for games. 3DS has fed force, paper jam, bravely second, and more, as well. I mean, if you look at an average direct, they usually only feature 3-5 games per platform per direct, and roughly 2-3 new reveals while showing updated trailers for already revealed games. What you detailed + upcoming 3DS games + smash/splatoon DLC + eshop stuff/indie stuff is way more than enough for a direct. I mean, seriously, find me a direct that covers AS MANY Wii U games as you listed. 7 Wii U games in one direct? I don't know that it has EVER happened. Maybe I'm wrong.

There are also directs that focus on ONE game, I wouldn't be surprised if we got a xenoblade X direct late november to showcase all of the game's features.

Edit: I don't mean the solo game direct is *THE* direct we get this year, I mean that it's possible a solo direct accounts for the *AT LEAST* portion of his statement.

That wouldn't be Nintendo Japan's doing though, as that game has been out for over 6 months

True, so probably not what Kimishima is referring to, but maybe the 'at least' is referring to that. *shrug*

He must at least *KNOW* if NOA has directs planned for this year.

We waited so long for a Direct, it'd be a shame if it's a freaking Xenoblade X instead of a general one.

As discussed above, its very unlikely he's referring to an NA-only Direct centered on one game. It's probably the usual late December Direct.

There wasn't even a Direct in December last year. The last one was the first week of November.

Yup, really hoping we get one next week. Friday would be good, too, because it could help advertise the streetpass weekend, but i'm not counting on it.

So they're doing "at least one more" Direct this year, but from 2016 and on they will be remodeled? Why not just remodel them for the one or two left this year? Or was the quote about this year incorrectly translated?

Maybe it was more or less done already, but they realized it wasn't really going to work long term in that format without Iwata.

I don't think Kimishima himself would host a Direct, but does anyone know if he's fluent in English? Could he host a Global Direct if he wanted to?

He worked at NoA and lived in the US for a period of years, before returning to Kyoto to work alongside Iwata at NCL. I'm sure he's at least somewhat able to understand basic English. I think someone even said he has a daughter that went to college here, too?

I think he should. There's a lot of preconceptions about him and him coming into the next Direct in a silly Nintendo character outfit being zany, silly and just Nintendoy would be amazing

Maturity, bitches.

It's going to be Kimishima sitting in an armchair by a fire with his back turned to the audience, one arm relaxed over the armrest with a tumbler of Bourbon whiskey in hand slowly being stirred by his rotating wrist.

"You've come for the Nintendo news have you" he says in a calm collected voice. The camera nods.

"Well too bad!" He slams the glass on the floor and pushes his chair back with force. He rushes towards the camera man and chases him out. "No Nintendo news for you today boy!" He slams the door.

Well he was President of NoA for eleven years. He should be fluent in English.

I'm sure it's excellent. He's been in the US for at least 20 years (possibly closer to 30) and speaking and understanding English was a big part of his job.

He worked for Sanwa Bank of Japan and Pokemon USA before getting the NOA gig.

I really wouldn't expect much. We more or less know what's coming for Wii U and 3DS. At the most we could hope for an eShop surprise like Project Guard or whatever. NX is not going to be revealed this year.

I want them to make a new Mario Kart for NX. A year's worth of DLC was plenty. I'm sure with all of the stuff Nintendo has going on at the moment, they aren't interested in making even more DLC for a 1.5 year old game.

If it uses the same engine as MK8, MK9 could just add all of MK8 as DLC, which would be sublime. Doubt it'll happen though.
