Which tracks? I could not find anything witch a quick search. Can you give more Information? I would like to listen to it. :)

They worked with his music on Nobuo Uematsu's 10 Short Stories, Octave Theory, Dancing Dad and the Fantasy Life soundtrack.

Oh yeah, good old Square banning composer names when they go freelance...

Oh man I totally remember seeing that in the credits way back then and thinking it was strange. Is that typical SE policy? Or were they just simply peeved at Mitsuda at the time?

Not surprising. And Uematsu is past his time anyway. Still does some good stuff, but he's just not on fire like he was in the mid to late 90s. Which is fine, he's made his contribution. The music carries so much of the thematic punch of 7 it would be weird to feature a bunch of totally new compositions anyway. Just needs a killer remix.

If they're going to get one of the big guns for remixing, Hamauzu or Soken who worked so well w Uematsu's stuff in X and XIV.

I meant like compose new music. Orchestral arrangements to the originals would be awesome. I don't think they'd do original music, but you never know with SE.

Well depending on what they add/tweak with the story, I wouldn't be shocked if there was some completely new compositions. I wouldn't expect many though.

Weird wording, makes it sound like he didn't compose the music for FFVII, just arranged it, and that the remake will have entirely new composed music, which Uematsu won't compose.

Well, he already wrote the soundtrack. It's not like he's needed to arrange it. His music gets arranged all the time, and it might be nice to get a different spin on his classic themes.

You guys should listen to Pontus Hultgren's arrangements. I've listened to a lot of re-arrangements, but his ones feel like the best ones that can still fit in the game. He keeps the essence of the originals and adds a few light touches.

I really want something close to his work.

Though his arrangements tend to fall flat when it comes to anything jazzy or guitar-heavy. For pieces like 'Oppressed People', a live arrangement with a small ensemble would be much more faithful.

This isn't unexpected to be honest, but I'm a little disappointed nevertheless, if only because I wanted to see Nobuo working on a new project. I hope the new guy/girl/team does a good job.
I feel kinda sorry for whoever gets chosen to rearrange this game's soundtrack, for sure. Must be stressful knowing no matter how good of a job you'll do, a vocal part of the fanbase will still complain just because you're not the original composer.

While this news bums me out, I never really expected him to and I also admittedly have very little faith in this project turning out well.

That said, for my tastes at least: use Mizuta, if anyone at Square can hit a good FF golden era vibe it is Mizuta.

Soken who worked so well w Uematsu's stuff

While I dislike Soken, myself, that dude is the solo composer of a modern, subscription based MMO with quarterly updates and expansions. He's probably chained to a desk right now.

At least they'd have the comfort of knowing people would complain even if they were the original composer, going by FFXHD.

Which is stupid, because it's not like he's the best composer in the world or something.

I mean I love his work, but come on.

I'm not sure, but I don't know if there are other cases where they could have applied something as specific as this.

The probably were just peeved at Mitsuda at the time though. Masato Kato went on record saying Square didn't want a freelancer to work on Chrono Cross and he had to fight for Mitsuda to get the job (can you imagine Chrono Cross without Mitsuda's music? that would have been disastrous...).

Ha ha, no doubt. Can't imagine producing something creative under that kind of stress.

They have plenty of artists that can do it better than the original Uematsu, but i bet they're going to use AC & CC songs, which are still fine.

I wonder if Falk knows whats going on with this project. He probably can't talk about it if he does.

It's time for Falk to emerge from the shadows.

Honestly I don't really mind about this. I hadn't even thought about who'd be doing the music. People are probably going to bitch about it anyway unless it's slavishly faithful.

WTF?! That's crazy! And probably illegal, but I don't know how copyright laws work in Japan... Mitsuda could probably have sued. Wow.
He worked at Squaresoft at the time, so Squaresoft owned the rights to music.

He later went freelance, during the ps1 era, and that's when the ps1 port of ct was released without him getting credit.

Most likely not illegal but a shitty move.

Wow those are amazing. Did he do this for the entire OST or just some select tracks?

I'd bitch if it was slavishly faithful personally.

Bitching will be had either way.

I am quite scared if it's Takeharu Ishimoto. I was hoping for Tsutomu Narita or Naoshi Mizuta for this work.

Ishimoto did a good work, but not a great work in my opinion. And when I'm listening to some arrangement he did for the new Dissidia except the Main Theme sang by Chris Ito (DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY MEGA MIX TGS2015 from DISSIDIA FINAL FANTASY)... Welp. Type-0 was good (The Beginning of the End is stunning and Vermillon Fire is one of the greatest song I've heard), but it's not memorable.

You can hear several arrangements from him about the new Dissidia and it's quite... strange.

Yeah. It's never going to please everyone so they shouldn't try to, just know what people liked and what made it special and do the best you can. I'm not particularly well versed in a lot of japanese composers so the only one who springs to mind, Shinomura, probably finished the XV ost or the majority of work a while ago. Not sure she would want to work on another, arguably higher profile project, when the first GAF thread after a reveal of some music would just be comparisons.

Hire this guy, Square.

His involvement is not entirely necessary. I imagine Squeenix will get someone to arrange the soundtrack for an orchestral ensemble.

Type 0 Ost is in my top 5 Final Fantasy's ost's and I haven't even played the game yet.

I think Square knows that it's going to upset some people. They acknowledge that in the trailer

"The reunion at hand may bring joy, it may bring fear, but let us embrace whatever it brings"

Nomura has been pretty blunt about how this isn't going to be a 1:1 remake of FF7, and if all you want is a prettier version of that then you should just play the re-release on the PS4 (whenever that actually releases). But all the changes is probably part of the reason why he said that his whole body started shaking backstage when he heard the reaction to the reveal.

He has the right attitude

"I can't please everyone so I'm just gonna do what I want"

At the end of the day at least he'll be satisfied.
