When my copy of X didn't arrive in the mail I went hunting. I managed to find a copy at a local store and went and paid for it.. They even pulled the money from my account. The girl behind the counter was about to hand the game over when some sort of notice pops up and she says "Soory, I can't let you have this, its not released yet. You have to come back tomorrow."
I held the game in my hands! My dreams and plans for tonight, crushed..
On the lighter side of things I won't have to call in sick and I work night so I'll be sleeping until the mailman has been by.

I mean, I don't disagree with the example you said but I utterly disagree that calling it a "doll" is any better than "skell".
If you wanna go all the way with it, you don't get inside of a doll but rather play with it from the outside, so calling it a doll isn't even relevant to what it is. Might as well just call it a pilotable robot at that point if we're going for straight-up relevancy.

Anyone ever experience something like this? I did in-store pickup at Best Buy because I live kinda close to one and didn't want any delays that could happen with shipping. Just got the text from Best Buy saying my CE is ready for pick up, a day early. Will they give it to me or see it's supposed to release tomorrow and hold out?

No story connection whatsoever. The core combat is similar (but improved).
Nope. Shares the name and has a similar battle system but that's about it. A character wears a Monado pin. Pretty sure that's the only tie.

I'm joking haha, I really don't know how well Nintendo's servers handle load, just got the console a week ago myself. I would prepare for the worst, though.
I think Skell is fine. It's just a contraction of (exo)skeleton which is pretty much what the mechs are. Doll is not a word for robot in English and it doesn't have any exotic quality when the context isn't Japanese.
The localization team probably wanted a word that is not quite English just as "Doll" is not Japanese. To a native English speaker a doll is something quite ordinary and Skells are supposed to be anything but ordinary.
Edit: Imagine Lyn Lee gushing over "Dolls" in the English version. It would be kind of funny but probably would create the wrong impression. She's thirteen but she's an engineer not a barbie collector.

i have seen the 3ds and wii u holiday commercials but i havent seen a xenoblade one yet but i have heard some people say they have.

Man, I thought the loading times would be worse, they're actually pretty nice (with data packs).

This is correct.
There is a workaround where you can activate Off-TV Play which then sends the audio to your headphones while still displaying everything on the TV but you lose the GamePad UI. You could switch back and forth if you need to access it (Off-TV is triggered via a button on the touch screen).

So I let the data packs install again, then tried to the launch the game....and now it wants an hour to install them... I don't understand, did everyone else have to do this?
Reminds me a little of Tiny Tina from Borderlands 2.
