Xenoblade Chronicles X - Review Thread

Saw it on Toonami last week!
I was really hyped for this game initially, but what other games could you guys compare this to? I never played Xenoblade Chronicles, but it's reminding me a bit of Monster Hunter 4 which I got for 3ds and ended up disliking. Combat system and just the pure scope is what I'm worried about here.

Not even 30mins into the game, and catch a glimpse of what must be a high level monster. Game felt a bit weird at first, need to mess around with the controls - but the game draw distance is awe inspiring.

You don't need to worry, this is a spiritual successor a la Final Fantasy. There are some nods towards the first game but it's not related story-wise at all.

Nah. Ridley's too big for Smash, but not big enough for Xenoblade X. Forever shunned.

I have feeling it would have fared worse reception and been like FF Type-0 which some people held very high and came crashing to earth (I think I remember seeing some of this when the fan translation came out some people disappointed in the game and more understanding of why it was skipped). In particular the battle system could have soured reviews here.
Sorry I should have been clearer. The data packs took about an hour for me to download on a 40 megabit connection (Wii U is connected by USB ethenet, no idea if the crappy wi-fi of the Wii U would be slower if going wireless) and those are about half the size of the main game. I think that is around the max my connection could go. I think Nintendo use a cloud based solution now.
Do bare in mind that games have to install on the Wii U once they have finished downloading which could take a long time.

Anyway, I see more and more people are getting the game now, I will feel less guilty about being able to play for the last five day now ! I hope we can set up a gad squad soon !

That was the case for japanese version until they could buy the dlc.
Dlc let them unlock fashion option right from the game.
And we westerners have the chance to have the dlc directly included with the game

I have a dilemma. I want to use Shulk's voice but at the same time I kind of want to make a female character. I could do that and use Fiora's voice as a compromise... Hmmmmmm

Just got an email from Best Buy. Says Order Ready for Pick Up tomorrow, but on the Order Tracking it says Ready for Pick Up Now, wonder if I can get them to give it to me today if I show them the Order Tracking Page instead of the email.
There aren't any deals on this. Par for the course with most Nintendo 1st party games, it's gonna be full price for a while probably.
You can give them new armor and weapons that have different appearances but you cannot edit their faces/voices.

No, but gear shows on everyone, so you can customize everything they wear at least (and cover ugly faces with a helmet, IIRC).

Xenogears isn't explicitly related (as it's owned by square, that would be impossible) but the game is made by the same people at the helm
