I'm now confident in 2017. This looks really far along.

Do you remember how big this game is? If they were showing off other areas other than Midgar, THE FIRST AREA, I would have more confidence. This is going to be 2018 at the earliest.... fuck this is going to be a PlayStation 5 game.

I have no confidence in Square. About the same that I have that Nintendo was going to release Zelda WiiU in Holiday 2015...

Nice job putting words in my mouth like you know who I am and you know what I play. Multiple people in this thread are saying the combat was changed to make it have a wider appeal. How is this anything I said wrong?

You do understand the connotation behind "lowest common denominator" and what it suggests, yar?

Lots to love and lots to hate. I'm so freaking conflicted about this game.

Of course, the common sentiment here is that you're a regressive loser if you want the old battle system to stay mostly intact (still not sure why), but man this new style is so far removed it's hard to even call it Final Fantasy VII. Hopefully it's still fun, but I really wish it at least resembled the original game.

Just like everyone else, though. I am absolutely in love with the presentation. The music, Midgar, Biggs and Wedge, everything just looks and sounds so amazing. My only gripe is that they seem to be leaning towards sad goth Cloud instead of focused, determined Cloud.

Progression in the Reactors is pretty linear so I'm not bothered by the linear/hallway looking exploration they showed off. The town sections looked pretty open IMO.

They can't have narrow passages in Midgar? It's just a change in animation. How is this any different from pressing up on the stick to run forward, which I'm sure you will be doing plenty of in this game?

It obviously depends on how prevalent it's used but it does make worry that segments might be too corridor based. That said the intro is largely scripted so we'll see.

Well, 2017 is possible since it's two years away, but I wouldn't really take this trailer as an indication of anything. If anything, this only indicates that they probably have some sort of vertical slice completed of the prologue Midgar portion of the game. Proof-of-concept != heavily advanced production.

Remember all the Versus trailers too. :p

Looks great for an early look. I'm really impressed how far along this is, considering we just heard about it at E3, and for how long it usually takes SE to get a project going. The character models and lighting look really good. Lip sync is off but that's to be expected at this point. Probably something they will tweak later down the road.

In some ways the graphics look better than FF XV. Might just be the fact that the maps are smaller or something. I wonder what engine they are using? They whipped this up fast.

I'm just going to put this out here: I think the realistic graphics looks fucking DUMB.

Cloud with a sword his height hanging off his back and Barett with a machine gun attached to his arm... looks laughable.

Seriously, this looks so hard to take "seriously". The realistic graphics really give it that uncanny valley and throws everything off given how photo realistic everything else is.

Yar, and when the argument for ARPG is that a "wider audience" doesn't have the "patience" that the highest selling Square Enix game's original audience apparently had, then yeah, you're automatically making that comparison.

Color me interested.

Gameplay segments reminds me when we first saw the FF13 trailer. Everyone wondering how the gameplay will work :lol

Even Nomura said this.

Exactly. If you think FF7 is good, you already had a game made for you. This is for people who want something that isn't FF7, whether they thought it was bad the first time or if they would never give a game from 1997 a chance.

FF7 is a long fucking game and what they showed was the first 30-60 minutes at most. 2017 would be impressive.

Looked pretty neat. I think I've mostly gotten over the lack of turn-based combat. Can't wait to experience the game again, looking glorious!

I wonder how the Honey Bee Inn and sailor suit sequences will look in this game.

They're going to heavy edit that shit out. This game is full of mind numbing dumb bullshit my 16 year old self LOVED.

If they're making this game for a "new crowd" they're going to redo a lot of it, I think.

Holy shit guys, I think I've just discovered a way to read GAF posts from 2005 and am reading a post about Advent Children.

Hello 2005GAF, be patient, you only need to wait another 10 years for a remake reveal. Also that Versus game they'll announce in two years? It's never coming out.

I wish Square wasn't predictable and gave this game a turn based combat system. Not VII's because I didn't think anything was special of VII's, but something like X-2's with a lil' spin would've been off the chain.

looks great, it's cruel to tease xbox owners by saying 'console debut' though when there is no way that this game will ever be on xbone

"Yeah, let's remake Final Fantasy VII for all the people that don't want it!"

You can't be serious?
