Please be an evolution of the PT experience. A Silent Hills by any other name is just as sweet.

It has to be this. He's stated that he wanted to work on horror for quite some time. In MGS V,
Mission 43 had a pretty horror-ish vibe
.

I've told my friends multiple times that if he should work somewhere, it would be Sony, given the hints (Cerny, and everything). I don't care about "Silent Hills" as an SH game (even though it's my favourite horror IP and SH2 is the best s-h to date), I just want him to make the horror game he was willing to make out of SHs.

Both Konami and Sony having a dormant horror IP, I would have thought that he would make his game under the Siren IP (Forbidden Sirens?), but really, whatever the title, I just want his horror game, preferably with Junji Ito and Guillermo del Toro on board (and Yamaoka for the sound track if at all possible).

His new game will have you playing as a secret military agent, whose secret identity is a professional soccer player, that hunts vampires in a paranormal village.

Great news but not keen at all on a spiritual successor to P.T. and Silent Hills.

Give me a spiritual successor to Snatcher and Policenauts.

The game won't take as long to make as MGS5, that game was using a brand new engine, KojiPro might use Guerrilla's engine like Supermassive to speed up the development process considerably as well as get technical support from them.

Great news!

And here is hoping that Konami goes out of business and rot in hell.

PS: I had no idea that Andrew House could speak Japanese. Impressive.

Would have been more fun if he went to work with MS, just for giggles, but either way I wait excited what they come up with. New horror IP would be most welcome.

I hope he makes a game true to MGS. That formula is great and I don't care if it is Snake or some guy named Giraffe as long as Kojima is directing it. Do it!

The last AAA game published by SCE on PC was Twisted Metal in the mid-nineties. I don't think Helldivers concerns Sony that much.

The IP is likely owned by KojiPro because there is no recent precedent to suggest otherwise.
I am also inclined to think that Kojima owns the rights. This sounds like an MS/Epic deal where if the rights are to exchange hands, it will occur in a transaction several years from now. Sony could have bought out Shenmue for a fraction of what funding this would entail. I think they are taking an approach that allows them to see if this will have mainstream appeal, or bolster their digital lineup. Considering how successfully they have wrangled the big western IPs into their corner, it would be really interesting if this was a different scope of product that could make it out in the next 24 to 30 months.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
I'm hoping Kojima does something science fiction related. I love his science fiction worlds. Not too interested in horror, tbh. Don't really enjoy horror games.

So does this basically confirm he's been on gardening leave at Konami since the start of the year, and now the non-compete is over? Konami seemed to want to insinuate things weren't that bad and gave me the feeling they were trying to win him back?

It's the opposite, it's not on PC because the IP is owned by Sony, if FROM owned the IP then there would be a PC port by now since Dark Souls games usually sell ~1 million on PC.

I understand that.

I was referring to the fact that you said KojiPro likely owned the IP because you stated there is no recent evidence to suggest otherwise

I was referring to Sony owning the Bloodborne IP as evidence of a Third party developing a Sony-owned IP. I think we just have crossed wavelengths again LOL

Huge huge Kojima fan but MGSV is an awful game. Terrible. Nope, not joking. I am confident and hoping Kojima can bring his magic back.

Oh the feels if Kojima does something cyberpunk-themed again. Even better, stealth action in a cyberpunk setting! Can't wait to hear what his first project will be.

I own both consoles, but if it's going to be console exclusive, I'd rather it be Playstation exclusive mostly because the console is more powerful, and we're likely to get a better looking or more ambitious game as a result. That and from a finance perspective, the game will reach a much bigger install base, with potentially more allegiance to his brand.

I feel the same way.

Scifi is a setting/theme, horror is a genre. I don't like horror either, but I would say a good percentage of horror out there is.... scifi!

Kojima probably tried shopping around and went to Microsoft first, saw a stipulation in the contract - Must release on the exact same date as The Elder Scrolls VI - and ran for the hills.

Way too many people caring about the whole exclusive thing rather than Kojima actually starting a new company and franchise. I thought GAF was better than that. I'm really excited for this, but realistically, are we talking 2019 here?

What an announcement to wake up to! YEAR OF DREAMS indeed. Holy shit.

They're really gonna make PS4 one of the best consoles ever by the end of its life.

Hoping for a continuation of P.T. or Zone of the Enders.

Also hoping that his projects are a bit more focused in scope and that he has an editor on board to keep the scripts in check. At least he won't have to deal with MGS timeline baggage anymore.

Anyway, it's likely going to take at least two years before we see anything out of this.

So happy Kojima is free from Konami prison (like, seriously, that beard is held-against-my-well-esque) but damn if this news doesn't make me realise how I have no absolutely no desire to own a console this generation.

Damn they're hiring like crazy. Wish I could apply, but I don't know japanese :(
Hopefuly they eventually expand the studio internationally if they get big enough in the coming years. Obviously way too early to tell, but one can hope.

A new studio formed 1 day? At least 3 years for a game

I wish I knew how to make games.

That's going to be a thing I guess, LOL.

Sony owning IPs of games developed by third parties is actually very common, they released three games under that arrangement this year alone (Until Dawn, Bloodborne, The Order). & there are at least two more coming next year (Ratchet & Clank, Detroit).

Media Molecule & Sucker Punch worked with Sony for years under that arrangement before they were bought out.
