Would have been nice if this was a surprise reveal for tomorrow, but at least I know for sure that we're not getting Z, whew! xD

All of the regions have their high points and flaws.

I like Kanto for it's everything and the kitchen sink approach. I like how the main area of the region can be visited in different orders. I'm not a fan of how the trainers are all in the same level range though.

I like Johto for its Japanese aesthetics and mythology. I'm not a fan of how small it is though.

Hoenn is great for that sense of adventure and wonder of traveling across this sort of tropical island. But then there's the fact that it has those water routes which are super boring.

Sinnoh is a mounatian region and revolves around a mountain range and I like that you have to trek around, through and even over it. But that can get a little confusing and also annoying with the Pokemon distribution. There's also a lack of water which seems like a direct acknowledgement of Hoenn's flaws.

Unova is a response to Sinnoh being too confusing, so they went to far in the other direction by being linear. There's still some cool stuff about the region, like how it's all based off a lot of parts of New York and other parts of the U.S.

Kalos is similar to Unova in its linearity but draws a bit from Sinnoh by revolving around a central location with Lumiose. Some of the routes areas are way too small and seem like a consequence of going 3D.

Gonna have to disagree here. That's what they did with XY and it suffered for it.

Opinions, of course. But no, we don't have enough Pokemon.

I was perfectly fine with the Pokémon added in XY, I didn't feel shortchanged at all. I just hated Kalos, it felt so boring and indistinct. There is virtually nothing defining or memorable about Kalos. I was so disappointed.

But, again, we just feel differently about it. Ideally, there would be an increase in Pokémon AND a better, more realized, region to play in.

Boom, nailed it. Kanto's non-linearity, Johto's aesthetic, Hoenn's adventure, Sinnoh's split, Unova's urban style, and Kalos' central focus.

All these theories are driving me crazy. Tomorrow can't get here fast enough.

I don't think it'll be a Gen 6.5 with new Pokemon and everything. Cause like at that point Sun and Moon wouldn't be compatible with X and Y. Why even bother saying "it's not an entirely new generation" when the new title won't work with the old ones.

Can I like Sinnoh as a region, but not any of the games it's been in? <.<
Same

They will probably do away with that Zygarde business and leave it anime-only. The Zygarde forms are not good designs anyway, other than the original of course

I think Zygarde Complete Forme is pretty bad ass as far as Pokemon go.

Assuming the shiny version looked similar to this, it would instantly become one of my favorite Pokemon in terms of aesthetics.

Agreed. It's ethier Gen 6 or Gen 7. And that will be determined by whether it has new Pokémon.

Well, yeah. I think Black and White are some of the best games in the series, but I didn't find Unova to be anything special.

I didn't like Kalos or Unova at all. They feel so uninspired. I feel bad saying that, but I just don't like them. They had no lasting impact on me at all. My favorite region has always been the Platinum version of Sinnoh because of all of its diverse natural terrain. Johto and Kanto, when viewed as a whole, are my second favorites.

It could have connectivity like Gen I with Gen II, something that's never been done since.

Unova was pretty bland layout-wise, but I really like Kalos. I think it has to potential to be one of the best ones if Sun/Moon turn out to be "Z".

I agree. Sinnoh was the last memorable region. I sometimes confuse Kalos and Unova cities and gym leaders with each other

This would be really great if it happened. Sinnoh really came to life in the Platinum upgrade. Simply portraying the region as colder made a huge difference in giving it personality.

I would love if Kalos came to life too.

Wait if this is Pokemon Sun & Moon, will Espeon and Umbreon get Mega Evolutions seeing how Espeon is the Sun Pokemon and Umbreon is the Moonlight Pokemon?
Give all the moon stone Pokemon new sun stone evolutions and vice versa. I look forward to Nido erm...emperor.

Imagine this

You need to trade Zygarde from XY to SM just to get Perfect
Don't forget it needs to Absorb Xerneas and Yevatyl and it won't be like the Kyrem fusion you'll permanently lose those two...but Perfect Zygarde man don't make omlette without eggs etc...
TPC would never do that

Why do all of you think this is going to be a remake of a region and not an entirely new game? Nowhere has it been even hinted that this is a remake. Chill.

Oh for sure. The actual Pokemon that were added in Gen 6 were great, I could have just used about 30 or so more of them.

And agreed on the regions. I'll have to admit my last favorite region was probably Unova, but the geography of it isn't even the good part. It's mostly the Pokemon themselves and the story that make me like Unova (though the removal of the linearity in BW2 was welcome).

I think they could easily introduce a decent number of Pokemon and still have an engaging region. Unfortunately it looks like Moon and Sun will expand Kalos.

I think, for these entries to be an exciting thing for me personally, they'll almost have to go full Gold/Silver on them. By which I mean, start in a new region (bordering Kalos) with new starters and ~80 or so new Pokemon, then have us come back to Kalos for the Zygarde arc (or maybe even go to Kalos in the middle of the new region and make the main narrative span across two regions).

Basically, I want a decent number of new Pokemon/Megas (about as many as XY had) new geography (even if the new region is a little smaller), an actual good story that will probably have to involve Zygarde out of necessity, and a decent post game (lol).

Tbh if these games are traditional XY sequels (read: no new monsters) I don't think I'm super interested. Obviously I'll still play, but in my quest to get some replayability out of XY, I've played through it about 3 or 4 times. Thusly, I've already raised most of the decent Pokemon. So unless there are new ones to see and learn, there won't be a lot for me.

I would be truly shocked if Sun/Moon are as lackluster as a straight X2/Y2. The naming, to me, implies something bigger. And even though Kalos wasn't my favorite, I would welcome it to return as long as the additional content (new mon, new story, new areas) is substantial enough.

Yeah. Think they will add R&S megas and maybe new megas and just limit that part of compatibility.
In an ideal world you could have entire pokemon design data transferable between systems, making them forwards and backwards compatible, but prospect of hackers adding their own designs makes that very unlikely.

Awful names but great news. Gen 6 didn't have enough Pokemon to warrant another game.

Also:

Kanto>>>Johto>>>>>>Kalos>>>>Hoenn>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Sinnoh/Unova.

Johto is still my favorite. It has a very traditional Japanese feel to it and makes it seem like there's a lot of history to the place.

In general I don't like the direction Pokemon has been going in since Gen 2. I know a lot of people will just scoff at and disregard my opinion as essentially being a genwunner, but although I like the core RPGs still very much, I really don't like the locations, stories, or majority of the new Pokémon (mostly the legendaries, a lot of the basic new Pokémon are fine).

I liked the idea of legendary Pokemon being mythical beasts of mystery and immense power. They had history with the world. Mewtwo had a cool story behind him. But when we got to the point that Pokémon were controlling space and time and one of them was God, I just felt.....I don't know. Not necessarily that it was absurd, because Pokemon was already absurd, but the the creator's vision of Pokemon and my vision of it weren't lining up anymore.

For me Johto built on what Kanto offered, but added history and scope to the world without dramatically shifting the feel. Because of that, it's my favorite.

Hoenn is the worst though. Both in feel and gameplay. What a slog.

Nah, I'm not a Gen 1 purist but I can't stand Gen V pokemons. They look like trash, literally.

PS: Please don't bring Muk into this, he's also shit-tier.

I actually like Garbodor.
Anyways, Gen V has tons of amazing Pokemon, like Samurott, Stoutland, Zebstrika, Gigalith, Scolipede, Cofagrigus, Krookodile, Carracosta, Archeops and the motherfucking best of all, Haxorus.

Anoregon

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
Man that ridiculous unnecessary "e" added to "form" sends my jimmies to maximum rustle every time.

Johto is so bland to me it would have to be straight up nostagia to have johti be top tier region wise. Johto can essentially be kanto as far as im concerned.

From the ones you mentioned I only liked Cofagrigus (Scolipede too but mostly because I used it, not because of the design). Samurott is one of the biggest starter disappointments ever. Not Delphox level but still pretty high.
