This game has that hook. No doubt about it.

LOL So true as well.

So thanks GAF, after all your positive impressions and screenshots within this thread I went ahead and cropped the digital version yesterday and...good lawd holy shit. Absolutely loving it. So a spew of words is going to follow now...lol

My friends saw me playing it last night and asked how it was and the best way I could describe it for them was if Far Cry had a wonderful love child with Skyrim (we all LOVE Skyrim), Dying Light and The Beast Master with the brutality and original language that helps completely immerse you like Apocalypto....just all of it set in the Stone Age so everything wants to kill you. So I managed to sell a few copies of the game then.
Though they never heard of The Beast Master or Marc Singer so I have to get new friends now.

So much attention to detail and the animation and visuals are sublime. And yeah everything wants to fucking kill me in this! LOL I find a old torn up village with nobody around...fucking Hawks descend upon me trying to kill me. In the early area near your village I went swimming and found a glowing hand stone...only for a Alligator to sneak up on me and try kill me which scared the shit out of me and I had no idea they were in this game!!! LOL Night time is just me hiding by a campfire and swinging my club on fire to scare everything the fuck away. Also how cool do the campfires look at night? That beautiful smoky haze especially when you see one off in the distance just makes them look all too real.

I think one of the biggest "HOLY SHIT WTF?!" moments came right after doing the first "Beast Master" quest and tame. It's night time and I'm with my beast when I hear a whole bunch of commotion going on, people screaming, wolves howling...seems like the Udan are fending off a pack of wolves...when all of a sudden a wolf thats been set ablaze comes running down the hill and right past me with a fire trail behind and it and in a few short seconds the entire forest is a blaze!!!

Digging the combat. Melee feels exactly like Skyrim to me which I had no bones about, but I know a lot of people did and do, and it has just the right amount of crunch and feedback for me. Coolest kill so far was a Udan running at him and taking the bow and shooting off 1 arrow to hit him square in the forehead...his neck snapped back and his momentum kept him running for a second before he collapsed and rolled by my feet.

So yeah, again absolutely loving it. This was one of those "well that sounds different, I'll check it out eventually" when I heard about it and from you guys raving about it I caved and got it and I'm glad I did. I guess one of the major cons could be repetition as with all open world games but I'm nowhere near there really as the setting and atmosphere are entertaining and this game is becoming a huge time sink when you don't realize it. I got on to play for a couple hours last night around 10pm....at 2:30am my wife comes in the living room to inform me what time it is. LOL

How's everyone's tribe pop doing? Anyone hit 300 yet?

I'm in the 170s right now. It's neat seeing the cute lil' Wenja kids running around camp and seeing hunting/foraging parties way out in the boonies.

So I just
killed the fire leader and thought it was the end but no credits.... iş there more to do?

Did you defeat
Ull? He's in the very upper right hand corner of the map, he and the fire lady are the two you need to beat to wrap up the story.

Anyone else find the graphics are sort of weird in this game on PS4?

Its like everything is slightly blurry or fuzzy or seems kind of washed out.
I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't seem right.

Sheeeeesh I should've rescued combat guy hours ago. I just found out he unlocks the "slit one dude's throat and throw a knife at another guy" move, which is probably the most satisfying move in the game.

By the way, what is the deal with that closed off area a bit to the south of the village? You have to go through a cave to access it and when you enter there's blood and stuff everywhere. It feels like an endgame area, should I even be here right now?

Have you recruited Jayma yet? Those are special hunts you get from her. You can also tame those beasts.

I think it looks damned good. One of the best looking games on the system even.

Yep, I think so too. It looks good, but as a PC player I noticed the lack of contrast in brighter areas right away. And yeah, foliage is a little fuzzy.

Is there a place I can VPN to unlock this on PC right now? I keep seeing PC impressions but the game says it unlocks Tuesday on my end. I want to play :(

Damn, only $35.99 on GMG VIP for the PC version pre-purchase.

The game looks good, but I'm really disappointed by the impressions claiming there really isn't much of a story and that the game is like a really "lite" version of a survival game in terms of gameplay.

Story is lacking but turn off all HUD/Minimap and it's not "lite" anymore.

I was sent there anyway at the end of the mission, no credits :(

Talk to everybody in the village you possibly can, upgrade all huts, finish all main missions (of course) inlcuding the four epic hunts (will get you the hunter ending) and it should appear by itself (I got teleported)

The upgrades are going to be what stops me from finishing it then lol seems like a chore :)

Whoa, there's a point in the game where you stop getting skill points from gaining experience / levels (because there's no more experience bar). I'm essentially max level.

I' m still lacking ... 13 skill points to max out all skills, which means i'll have to do track down side-quests that give me 1 skill point as a reward.

That's kinda dumb tbh :/

Happened to me, too. What version are you playing? Xbox One here.

Im a bit stuck

I managed to get dah back to my home and he is in a cage. It says I need to build his hut before I can unlock more skill options.

How?

Beat it yesterday, now going for the platinum, which should only take a couple hours. Main things are kills wth traps and takedowns (neither of which I ever used), and 80 collectibles, which may or may not be a huge pain in the ass

How?

Same thing happened to me, I just did a help wenja mission and slept to dawn and the icon for him popped up.

Reading impressions in this thread makes me want this game pretty badly. I don't care about Farcry but the setting is one I've dreamed of for years to see done justice. One of the things I rember fondly while growing up was having my imagination captured by the artist's interpretations of the cave people in Time Life books and National Geographic. This game is like that only in 3D.

What are the survival elements like? Is the game actually dark at night like Dragon's Dogma? Do you need to use the torch or is it like Dark Souls II?

Do we need to eat food and etc.? Is the game difficult enough to give it a survival feel?

I'm really thinking about buying this. I love the setting and I've always wanted an open world game set in B.C. Plus, I love Far Cry, so it seems right up my alley. I just keep reading disparaging things about the combat and length.

PS4, and there were EXACTLY enough "+1 skillpoint" missions remaining to fill up my skilltree.

it was just kind of a downer to my general pacing. I literally had to jump across the map doing mindless Wenja rescue - and even worse, ESCORT - quests.

but alas,

I think my game is glitched. I did two help wenja mission that gives skill points but it still says I have only 1.

Oh well, I'm not gonna let it sour the enjoyable I had with the game.

I really disliked far cry 3 and 4, two of the worst main characters and juvenile, poorly written stories in gaming. Gameplay was ok but got old fast.

This one though, it speaks to the 4 year old in me who was obsessed with prehistoric eras. The lack of story and the way what is there is told via subtitles is very wise since these lot couldn't write a decent story for love nor money. It leaves the focus to the gameworld and exploration aspects and is all the better for it.

The atmosphere and purpose i feel while playing are top notch. Im really glad i chose not to be stubborn, and rather took in all the vibes from this thread and how much people are enjoying it. Class game!

I am loving this game on easy. Zero frustration and im bashing skulls like crazy. I have yet to die and I can take it all in without any reprocutions. I can play any way I please and im not punished due to difficulty.

I'm loving the recent Ubisoft trend of including female enemies in their big series. They still need more female MCs, but at least they seem to understand that even adding in random female mooks is a step towards equalization.
