I know, I was referencing that D2D still manages to keep my info and let me download stuff, but GFWL basically disavows all knowledge of the service existing. But SEGA Rally is not a GFWL game. It only has Games for Windows logo on the box, but without LIVE service.
The Club is a GFWL game, yes.
Epic owned the game but it couldn't patch out GFWL without Microsoft's approval as its publishing contract was still in effect. Bulletstorm is in the same situation -- PCF can't do anything until publishing rights revert back to it as the EA Partners contract has yet to expire.
But something I wonder a bit about this, are companies like Microsoft with Iron Brigade and EA with Bulletstorm actively oppose these changes/patches? Or would touching the game while those agreements are in place trigger something?
Try this link: http://www.xbox.com/de-DE/Live/PC/DownloadClientI wanted to quickly check out what I still had in GFWL. So I tried opening it, had no luck. Tried downloading the client, which ran, said it was already installed, then failed.
I remember during the DRM fiasco people actually pointed to something similar saying something like this will never happen and that their fears were unfounded.
You wrote over a thousand resentful words about the supposed unfair treatment of a nigh-universally agreed to be terrible service.
I think it's important to realize that for the vast, vast majority of people, there isn't actually a "Steam-only mentality" so much as a standard for non-shittiness that only Steam (or these days, maybe Steam and a select group of others) can actually meet.
But no service, NO SERVICE, could have recovered from the pounding pro-Steam users gave GFWL. I still have a few burned bridges with people in the "industry" who felt like this was a necessary thing to see because of their devotion to "lord Gaben". You would feel like me too if you had your system hacked and torn to shit because some Steam users did not like the fact you stood up for the exception and not the norm (I still have the HDD stored away as a reminder that Steam users can actually suck eggs too). Certain reviewers, editors, and the sites that employ them I still avoid to this day because like Pepperidge Farm, I remember too.
Double Fine had the same problem with Iron Brigade, until they got the rights back. But something I wonder a bit about this, are companies like Microsoft with Iron Brigade and EA with Bulletstorm actively oppose these changes/patches? Or would touching the game while those agreements are in place trigger something?
Without direct access to those contracts, we'll never know. I have stories re: GFWL implementation and Company of Heroes, but you'll never hear them from meDouble Fine had the same problem with Iron Brigade, until they got the rights back. I'd assume patching out GFWL without publisher approval could be considered a breach of contract as it would be fundamentally altering the game as it existed (or were to exist) when the publishing agreement was signed.
Yeah, I'm more curious as to whether the requests for approval were even submitted, and if they were, were they turned down or just ignored.
When Double Fine were trying to fix Iron Brigade, I got the impression that they were mostly ignored, which is something I feel is a problem solving technique widely used by Microsoft (I'm a software developer and have had the misfortune of being stuck without info from them quite often in the past).
Yeah, that's the one I tried. Because I already have some version of GFWL (that doesn't work) already installed, the setup completes immediately, then says it can't connect. And I can't uninstall the one I already have because it can't find the MSI :/Try this link: http://www.xbox.com/de-DE/Live/PC/DownloadClient
I've installed the client on Windows 10 two weeks ago when I've installed Bulletstorm to test it with my 21:9 monitor.
Here are the screenshots I've made from Bulletstorm

Is the download list gone forever now? I only made one purchase from the GFWL Marketplace (the other games - Fable 3, Fallout 3, Halo 2, Universe at War and Viva Pinata - all have their CD keys in the box), but as it stands I can't retrieve my Osmos key to sign in.
It's not the end of the world as I also have Osmos on Steam, but it's a pain knowing I won't be able to log on to this version again and get the rest of the achievements!
Misses Quinzel said:Hey, guys! We are still actively working on getting this fixed up for you. I still have no further information, but rest assured that we are working to get your purchases available to you again. Keep an eye out here for updates from me!
Lol. Someone dumped poor GFWL Marketplace server in trash and no backups of install files in ms headquarters in sight.New post from a Microsoft rep:
New post from a Microsoft rep:
GFWL is one of the worst things to happen to PC gaming
"oops you got disconnected well there goes your savegame lol"
"oh your PC is in this language so we'll put the game in this language and you can't change it unless you change your PC settings"
Did anyone mention that players on Halo 2 would have forsee this months ago when the master server of that game fell throught the floor?
seems that the issue was resolved but surely feels strange to play a game which is on life support.
Halo 2 Vista has been on Life Support since even the first mention of the shutdown happened. There was barely anyone playing, which is why I guess MS felt the need to shut down the service.
Looks like AoE3 is going to need a repurchase at some point then. And Viva Pinata too if that's even possible
Microsoft shut down the GFWL Marketplace two-and-a-half years ago. In light of the fact that the titular issue has been going on for three months and counting with absolutely zero progress towards a resolution despite claims to the contrary from Microsoft's PR machine, if you want either game, you'll have to hunt down retail copies.
Misses Quinzel said:Hey, guys! I’m truly sorry to hear about any inconveniences this may have caused. When legal talks start arising in our Support forums, we have to shut down the thread and refer you to our Legal and Corporate Affairs page. There have been several suggestions to start legal action in here, and we can no longer ignore them.
Understand that we are actively working on this, and have been. Once this is resolved, you should see all of your purchases in the GFWL Client again.
As this is a support forum, if you would like to pursue legal action then we will not be able to assist further. If you would like to continue troubleshooting, please feel encouraged to start a new thread and we will be happy to assist you there. Because I have been deeply involved in this situation, please send me a private message with the new thread you have created. You can also bump this thread or this thread as I am keeping an eye on those as well.
Looks like they shut down the main Xbox support thread because of threats of legal action:

this seems new thread worthy
Shutting a thread doesn't, especially when the mod is pointing people to two other threads and offering to take PMs for new threads.this seems new thread worthy
RIP
Also sucks that we'll never get Viva Pinata now, but whatever. Say what you want about uPlay and Origin but at least they never gave up and locked away purchases.
Bulletstorm is likely forever screwed isn't it?

What a fucking cop-out

Am I missing something here, because it looks like they confirmed in that same post that people's purchases will be redownloadable.
However the outright statement that people WILL get an updated gfwl client and access to their games might be thread worthy.

This is working again, I'm so happy!
Win10 1429.1 insider
So, Windows10 exclusive?
Better late than never i guess. Working for me as well.Nice! And it only took them 5 months!!!
If i remember correctly you have a huge library of games from windows store and there were already some delisted games which you were not able to download anymore. Any news about that?no should be working on all, can't confirm though
