[Destructoid] Leaked photo of NX controller?

I'm surprised more people are commenting on this. What is the deal with this analog? It looks like a bottle cap. It is not a "ball roll" style analog. There are no gaps in the framing for it to move anywhere. Maybe it's a shifting analog like the 3DS or PSP, but then why would it be seated on a rounded platform? This alone makes me feel like the thing is totally fake.

Maybe it's just stationary and detects your thumb's placement on it to navigate.

NX is rumoured to have force-feedback sticks, maybe that's why they look different than the usual ones

Something like this was suggested as a possibly candidate:
Touchence tech.

Not to mention that in most of the use cases where you're operating this thing like a regular controller, you'll probably be looking at the TV most of the time.

I know there is a lot of speculation, but if there are digital buttons with haptic feedback I highly doubt you are meant to use this as a controller while looking at a tv because it would be way too easy to accidentally loose track of your buttons or touch one.

I guess if it's the raised transparent buttons it's possible, but I just can't jump through the hoops most people that believe this is real are jumping through.

People have, consensus is that it's a new shokaku potentiometer produced by one of nintendo suppliers.

This controller suggests that all NX games would be in "full screen" with 21: 9 aspect ratio and thumbs covering the ends leaving a 16: 9 visible what is the normal standard of widescreen but producing more "immersion" when playing.
In the case of backward compatibility or VC,16: 9 and 4: 3 consoles, will show only the content of the game and the rest in black (or white).

Something like this:

Wants the largest console games publisher to avoid Nintendo's platforms.
So my question is, why would so much of the screen in the normal demo not be represented in the "prototype"? Wouldn't most of the original screen scale down to fit the oval screen?
It's not the same timestamp from the video. In the video the camera keeps moving forward through the door, thus leaving more and more of the surroundings out of frame. What's seen on the controller is from a later timestamp than what was picked for the collage.

There was a post earlier that showed an exact image from the demo cropped to perfectly fit the screen on the prototype. There's really no debate that the image came from there.

It wouldn't line up perfectly if it was a different time stamp.

My issue is you have system resources being completely wasted by rendering in areas that are going to be obscured. It makes no sense.

Fun fact: most games "waste resources" by rendering areas of the screen that are then covered by GUI elements. The world hasn't ended.

Not that I think this is at all real. Aside from any other issues, those "analog sticks" are clearly single, immobile pieces of plastic, and easily created by even a relatively cheap 3D printer.

I actually would love Nintendo to work on something like the steam controller. Let Miyamoto use his magic to figure out the best possible ways to utilize that thing, so we can benefit in all games.

If the prototype were running the demo, shouldn't the image be a little blurrier due to taking a photograph of a moving video? The camera doesn't seems to be especially great.

I'm on #TeamFake, but I don't want to think too outside of the box.

We need to see if it also lines up with the similar image from slightly later in the fly through.

I mentioned earlier that 8 seconds in that this frame:

Also seems like it might line up (possibly). I can't shop it myself cos I still only have my phone available.

Somehow I doubt Nintendo would go with this kind of form factor if they hadn't solved this problem.

1. Why does this mean it's fake exactly?
2. Nonsense. Nintendo gave us the DS and all handhelds that came after it. Garbage ergonomics.
3. This is the one actual point you have. It's indeed really similar.
4. What do you think Nintendo can do, ever heard of the Barbara Streisand effect? Come on now.

1. It doesn't outright mean it's fake. It's just incredibly improbable for an NX to be displaying a promo video, and a far from private one at that.
2. Whether you think the ergonomics of 'DS and all the handhelds that came after it' are garbage or not is totally irrelevant. But this leak isn't consistent with Nintendo design at all.
4. An invasion of privacy and a breach of protected images are not the same thing. It's obviously too late to suppress the pic at this point, but if this was related to Nintendo, they would have done something about it, very quickly. We all know how secretive Nintendo is about NX, and how protective they are about letting rivals get a head-start on whatever it is they've cooked up.

But by all means, believe what you want.

very similar, but not *exact*. for example, the head is lower on the controller screen

yooooo that's slick! I'll buy it at a high price

If this is real I will not touch this damn thing ... do t care how wow it is when it comes to look at it ...

Where the hell are the physical buttons ...
Man even my vita is better to play than something like this and I think it's short l2 and r2

Nintendo needs to think because of they keep going this way it's pushing what will keep them alive away fads are nice bUT they come and go real gamers stay but now for a damn glory fide pad with analogs

So...did that reddit person manage to upload a video or something yet or did the ninjas get them / they're laughing their butts off?

That's assuming that this is an official Nintendo product. I happen to think it's fake, thus the inconsistencies and odd design. Plus, let's not pretend like Nintendo doesn't occasionally make poor design decisions when it comes to hardware.

We need to see if it also lines up with the similar image from slightly later in the fly through.

I just did a super quick comparison, and while it is close enough that your picture could be the image on the prototype, it doesn't account for the significant cropping of the image. There is maybe a 10% difference (again, super quick comparison) between the two potential demo pictures, whereas the prototype is losing maybe half of the image due to the presumed cropping.

I remain firmly on team BS but here's an idea to entertain for you who like discussing this anyway:

Assuming the "main" image in the center is focused on that 16:9 area and the rest in the periphery just servers as fancy FOV expansion, why waste rendering resources on this area which will be covered by your thumbs and hard to even see and can't really contain any vital HUD info. Why make this part of the screen at all? Why go with the fish shape at all? What's the benefit over a more traditional rectangular shape?

I see no logic behind this design. I've seen both of Rösti's post and they do nothing to change my view on this. It still looks like someone just rebuilt the patent design and 3D-printed the result.

So how big is this roughly?

Too big for Smash, sorry.

Interesting.

Seems to me that put next to a n3DS, the n3DS looks decidedly old-hat, whereas this looks something like Apple and Bowers & Wilkins got together. Irrespective of the under-the-hood power, it looks like something out of Minority Report or Portal (i.e. future/fresh). Provided they don't call it 4DS, there ought to be no brand confusion either.

I see initial reactions of wii u 2.0 in this thread, which may be fair, but I look forward to seeing a made-for-public promo video which would highlight the design/form factor as opposed to a dev-kit prototype...which still looks very intriguing and new compared to the 3DS, Vita and Wii U.

If it's real that is, but let's see what Nintendo reveals.

It's different, and apparently some people think that's reason enough even though it will cost more money to produce and negatively affect development/porting (assuming here).

That's great, thanks for doing it!

Yeah not as neat as the other one for sure.

Oh well was worth a look and I think maybe at least highlights that another frame could maybe match. I just picked 8 seconds cos it looked similar by eye

But all that means is that one still from a demo that is oddly cropped on the prototype could come from a couple different spots in the demo (even though it's hard to dispute the specific frame). Either way, it may not refute the legitimacy of the prototype but it definitely hurts its credibility.

Exactly this, look at the edges of the "screen" they look darker, why? That is the area where the top is pasted or united with the rest of the shell, it can't be just floating, the inside light can't reach there
A real screen wouldn't have problems with this
I started in #teamfake then slowly got persuaded towards #teamreal and now I'm on my way back to #teamfake again lol.
