Consortium: The Tower |KS| Deus Ex x Die Hard, a UE4-powered sci-fi immersive sim

Imbarkus

As Sartre noted in his contemplation on Hell in No Exit, the true horror is other members.
But there is one...

Not sure why Consortium doesn't have it though.

When did that get added? I been on PS4/PS3 too much lately.

Does Consortium have enough controller support I can play it without a mouse/keyboard handy?

I can't quite remember how it went, but a few things are inconvenient with a controller. That being said, I played most of the game from my nvidia shield with a controller nontheless.

For the partial controller support thing, yeah it's been there for awhile. A lot of games that have controller support don't show that icon though.

Well, they're releasing it on consoles, so I suppose they'll have controller-optimized control scheme.

So.... What's going on. They did mention earlier in the comments that this isn't an investor or publisher, but they also said they're not allowed to say yet.

...

So... hmmm? What?

Well, how embarrassing.

On a different note, I got the "didn't make funding" email. :( Not a surprise, I guess.

Read the updates. They're planning something. On top of that they're going to do another crowfunding thing outside of kickstarter and if we who already backed the original project back again we'll get all of their future Consortium-type games free.

New update, and Fig it is:

Hello everyone!

We've spent much of the past week recuperating from the first half of this crowdfunding effort, but we promised you all a full update this week on how we're planning on resuming this campaign. To put it simply, we're headed to Fig on March 22nd! If you’re unfamiliar with Fig, follow This Link to learn more about how their process works.

For everyone in the $20 level and higher, you will be receiving an email the moment we launch on Fig that will include a custom URL for you. Following this URL will take you to directly to our campaign on Fig and allow you to pledge the same amount (this includes all Early Bird pledges) and claim the same rewards. By doing this, you will officially become a Consortium: The Tower Super-Backer, and will be entitled to receive all Consortium Universe games we ever make for free.

One thing that will be different for the Fig campaign is that it will be priced in US Funds. For backers from the US this mean that your pledge will look the same as it was on the Kickstarter, but for everyone else the dollar amounts will be a little lower. For example, an Earliest Bird Consortium Initiate pledge of $20 on Kickstarter will show as $15 on Fig for someone outside the US. Don’t worry though, this won’t affect your Super-Backer privileges.

One really cool thing about going with Fig is that we receive all the money pledged. This means that everything you awesome people contribute as part of the campaign to realize The Tower will go directly to our budget (minus bank charges).

In the next few days we’re going to have a new forum available to help grow the Consortium Community, and starting in a week or so we’ll be streaming on Twitch some of our game nights, and developer overviews of some classic RPG’s that inspired us. Expect an update next week that will introduce those, and give some more information on how to access the forum and a schedule for streaming.

Here is the full press release on the subject.

Stay tuned!

Just got the email as well. Assuming it's still the same funding goal? There's just not enough buzz about it and there should have been. They need more support from gaming journalism and media sites.

Edit: Kotaku definitely did.

Eh, I'm not sure trying again on a platform far less popular than Kickstarter is such an amazing plan. They might get some more money from investor types, but still... they'd need about three times the total they got on the failed Kickstarter, that's a lot.

We'll see, I suppose. I will do my part and back again, at the very least.

I'm here for the long haul. I'll admit fig has it's.... Issues. But they can run a 3 month campaign, and they're actually asking for less. Perhaps this means some members of DF or Obsidian could assist development, too? The Fig guys are a pretty close knit bunch.

Are they asking for less?

I like this, even just to see what happens. It's apparent that projects seem to raise less money on Fig than they could have on Kickstarter but this will really be able to put that theory to the test.

I'll decide whether to back for the same amount when the Fig campaign goes live but I would be lying if I said I treat Fig and Kickstarter as the same thing, it will affect my choice. We'll see.

I have a hard time seeing them reach their goal on FIG. Maybe if they lower the amount of money they were asking for on KS.

It could happen. You never know with Fig because the rewards pledges and investment pledges are so out of proportion. It's possible that a game that raised only a fraction of its goal on Kickstarter could conceivably reach its goal on Fig thanks to the investments carrying the way. Consortium is a really neat testbed for comparing how games perform on Kickstarter vs. Fig.

The recent Jay & Silent Bob game on Fig only raised $118k in rewards but $328k in investments and that carried it past the $400k goal.

So the disproportion between rewards/investment makes it hard to predict. The platform is too new and Consortium is the first campaign that can finally test how backers respond to a campaign on KS v. Fig.

gave away the keys to the kingdom.
Ugh, I had no idea there was a deadline as I missed the e-mail. Oh well, I doubt super backers will be entitled to pre-release access to future games, which is the only reason it was interesting to me as sometimes developers consider it prudent to split the pre-release and launch versions of their games across separate Steam apps (Pillars of Eternity, for example).

I'm so proud.

Maybe we need a new thread?

I think you can still do the super-backer thing. They apparently re-opened the sign-up form. Check the Kickstarter backer updates for The Tower.

edit2: Aiee, I had to cancel and re-enter my pledge using the link they gave me via email. NEW AND IMPROVED

Hmm, it appears super backers also get a few coupons they can give out to friends. Don't know if it's only for a certain tier, or just for the tier you originally backed.
