Will PS4K lead to a new generation of bullshots and downgrades?

My enjoyment of a game has never once been decreased because that game may have looked better 3 years ago, than what in playing currently does.

I'd be in the dick
There will actually be fewer bullshots and downgrades now that a console with a damn fine GPU is in the mix.

Knowing the mindset of devs these days I can almost guarantee that starting in 2017 every PS4 game will be running at 20fps unless you have the new model. Which I suppose is great if you love that 'cinematic feel' >_>

After October, every developer HAS release a patch that support Neo Mode and by November games need to have a Neo Mode incorporated with all shipped games.
Nice!

I would argue the opposite. Devs will focus on the model with 30 million units in the wild and the improvements to the model with a couple million will be marginal.

Another generation? We've putting up with this shit for as long as I've been gaming(80s), if anything things are improving with disclaimers, etc.

Oh... didn't think about that. But now when you say it I assume that worse graphics and unstable framerate compared to trailers and what's talked about in previews will be the norm for us PSPoor folks going forward. Sad but true.

I assume that every review copy sent out will be PS4Neo too so I feel like I won't have a clue what I'm actually buying unless every reviewer starts to do DF FaceOffs, which is unlikely.

It'll be a mess. No more day 1 purchases for me. DF will be my only guide for future PS4 game purchases.

I'm kinda assuming (hoping) that the difference is negligible for most people. I remember getting my N64 transfer pack on Christmas morning putting it in and not being able to really tell the difference. I kinda suspect this will be the same way.

Not just screenshots, we now have to watch out for gameplay that says:
"Running natively on PS4* hardware."

An imporoved frame rate will be noticeable .

Now with the PS4K, I fear that all "PS4 gameplay" (in demos on the show floor, and at E3 presentations and in trailers) will actually be running on PS4K
I don't understand this. Why is a game running on an actual PS4K considered as a bad thing? If the game is real and runs on consumers' consoles exactly the same as shown as E3, how can it be BS? Bullshots and downgrades are when developers releasing games that look and play nowhere near as good as them being first shown at E3 or other events (like Watch Dogs). In your case, the game will still be the same when it's released and the consumers will play the exact same version as seen at E3 or in trailers... Misleading maybe yes but that's no BS or downgrade.

Yes, every exclusive will end up being shown using Neo. Many multiplat games will go this route as well (because many of them don't seem to be capable of competent PC ports).

No, that's not what a bullshot or downgrade means. Those will happen regardless (and possibly to a lesser degree now)

Of course footage will be from PS4.5, just like PC footage is from a high end rig. You won't see a trailer saying 'Running on a PLEBSTATION 4'

I wouldn't underestimate forum dwellers. Remember the original Xbone, not that this will illicit the same reaction.

As someone pointed out on another threads those forum dwellers had a powerful voice in the form of GameStop talking to MS directly.

The level of outrage was far more widespread too, but I suspect that a retailer with 50% market share of console hard&software sales was as big a voice on its own.

I would also point out that 4K bullshots are a requirement for optimum printing & large screen displays. Doesn't make it right that they're used in web marketing obviously but there are actual reasons for them to exist beyond publishers and their filthy lying marketing.

You know how it was hard to find footage of last gen versions of cross gen games until very close before release?

Expect the same from exclusives from now on if you still own the regular PS4

This is what I am afraid of. Watch Dogs PS3 gameplay wasn't shown until like a few months before the game's launch (well, before it got delayed).

It bugs me because there are close to 40 million PS4 owners. We want to see the graphics that we can expect, not graphics on some specced up premium machine. It technically isn't lying but it is misleading and I fear that PS4K gameplay will be used more frequently in lieu of actual PS4 gameplay. I remember earlier in the gen, some players waiting months to see footage of a game on their platform of choice (it was PS4 or Xbone). This wasn't too common and I believe it was for EA games or something to do with a marketing deal. ....Might have been EA with Dragon Age. Anyway, I don't want to have to deal with that for every PS4 game.

Some people might think that this changes nothing because of PC but remember that Arkham Knight was running on PC at Sony's E3 conference. It was running on a PC specced down to PS4's power level. Now, I haven't done a comparison to see if they achieved those graphics but at least they made an effort. In the future, they will spec those PCs to PS4K and blah blah blah.... Honestly, this PS4K just complicates things a lot for me. There are too many variables, too many ways to shape what we believe and too many ways to hide the truth.

Maybe I am overreacting and am just afraid of change. We will see how things turn out at E3 but I hope developers who are crafting their E3 trailers now are honest and clear. If they could make their trailers on PS4, scale it up to PS4K, use that PS4K trailer at E3 and post the original PS4 trailer on YouTube, I will be happy.

Imagine showing GOW4 on PS4, that looks as jaw-dropping as the 3rd did at the time, and then showing how it looks on PS4K. Ka-ching!

Sony actually wants to sell the PS4K remember? they have no reason to lie or to deny PS4K's gameplay, on the contray, they will shout about it from the rooftops!

We will probably start to get marketing that has tiny writing saying "PS4K footage shown." If it is shown at E3, be prepared for loads of stuff that is better #ForThePS4KPlayers.

Invariably so. And they will not clarify the difference in quality between PS4 and PS4K so as to obfuscate the quality of graphics. Classic shitty marketing that's endemic to the game's industry.

Probably, at least at the start, they will release a lot of comparisson videos. Like "watch how awesome is the XY game on the new PS4 neo, a lot better with all this particles, ecc...", like the features videos for Nvidia games on PC.

As a potential PS4K/Whatever-its-called owner, I fear the opposite might be mandated - that all games have to be shown on the base PS4 initially, and that only later on will we find out what 'extras' the PS4K model gets, or what it'll be like on the newer model.

Although tbh I think it'd be very hard for Sony to regulate this either way. It'll probably be entirely up to pubs, but hopefully they are clear which is running on what.

It's going to be kind of tricky for Sony in their initial reveal of this machine. Presumably they'll want to show the benefit of the new machine, but they're going to want to do it in a way that doesn't make existing owners feel left out. I guess they could handle it well with a flagship first party game - show it first running on the base PS4, and looking amazing...then show it again on the new model, just looking even better again. Win win?
