Speaking from the perspective of someone who's attended every E3 as media since 2011, except for 2014... E3 is a gigantic, stressful, expensive pain in the ass and I very much wish it didn't exist in its current form.
.

But because of your work and others it givens 10s of millions of people happiness every year.

Hahaha WTF are you doing N? Why even bother with E3 at this point, just keep your ball and stay the fuck home.
I'd be on suicide watch if I was a die-hard Nintendo fan though.

They are my favourite games publisher bar none and I'm completely fine with what they are doing right now.

They have bucketloads of fantastic 3DS games announced and a few WiiU games left. Like, it's allright if they take a few more months to prepare stuff to show. They haven't even tested my patience yet, I'm completely satisfied with my current Nintendo systems.

This time next year, we'll all be playing on our NX.

If anyone believes this I can frankly laugh.

It's easily the biggest thing they have until NX. Even if they showed other games everyone would still classify Nintendo's E3 presence as a disappointment because they're not revealing the new hardware. Nintendo's past few E3's have had more than a few great looking games and they were still met with negativity.

What if you're NOT a Zelda fan?

Just skip E3?

There are other companies doing conferences, you know?
If you're exclusively a Nintendo fan but you're not into Zelda then yeah, you're fucked and you'd be better off doing something else instead :p

If you can't 'win' E3, is it even worth going? :p

E3 is about your products getting attention.

I'd definitely say that if E3 isn't helping your product get good attention, it's not worth going.

Or maybe everyone else isn't using it correctly, and doing a piss poor job at marketing to their demographic?

Having bad marketing isn't an E3 thing, it's a marketing thing.

But those publishers that bowed out have signed deals with Sony and MS to be at their press conferences so.....

All the more reason for them not to care about E3 and let those companies do it for them.

They don't seem to be able to support anything.

It's easy to say that when you're comparing them to Sony and Microsoft, both of whom make almost all of their software for their home consoles.

But because of your work and others it givens 10s of millions of people happiness every year.

I'd rather there be more public hands-on events. Your collective opinions are worth a million times more than the collective opinions of journalists.

Strangely, I don't really care that there no direct for once maybe because I know that in 2017 Nintendo will "punch" hard. So I understand they want to keep some "surprise".

I'm as excited for the new Zelda as the next guy, but surely even the most diehard fan wants more than a single game demoed at a 3 day event. But hey, maybe they have something else up their sleeve.

The strange thing, what else is there for the public beyond the first day? The press release in OP says the live stream is "a day". What happens with the last 2 days?

You're making my point for me.

Why the hell should other publishers even bother with E3 anymore? E3 is basically just a week-long commercial for PlayStation 4 at this point.

Sony's "volume" didn't drown out E3. Sony announced about as many things as they always announce. The difference is that Sony is the loudest voice, and so all the volume from other people doesn't matter for shit.

Remember, I said "volume," not "noise."

If Microsoft was more relevant WW then you would see more deals foreign and western on their stage being done. You wouldn't have just FF7 remake or shenmue on Sony's stage.

You want to get people hyped, well all you have to do is cater to the fans and your venue will be hyped as fuck.

SHow me where MS, Nintendo did that in recent years and to a much bigger sample size. Having cloud in smash bros is cool, but its nothing compared to FF7 remake reveal, or shenmue.

Which have a history with tons of cult fans. If MS came out and showed something from the past being debuted on their console and had some kind of exclusive deal or something people would go nutts. Imagine a new banjo, perfect dark, or even a new Golden eye made by Rare people would lose their fucking minds.

That's how you use E3. IT'S how its used effectivly,. Remember Twisted metal for PS3? David jaffe comes out on a Sweet tooth truck people went nutts.

That's how you use it.

E3 is losing importance... for everyone who is not Sony.

I think you are too obsessed about who "wins" E3. And based on one year. Sounds too much like strong emotions. If it wasn't for E3 2014 and the very positive reaction from the audiences, Splatoon would have never got the chance to shine, for example.

Ubisoft also knows how to take advantage of the E3 promotion without "winning" any E3. Watch Dogs and The Division practically were born successful at E3. Probably For Honor will follow the same path.

Nintendo really needs a good marketing team that knows how to exploit these opportunities, not to run away because it "can't win E3". Winning is important for fanboys.

What am I going to have to buy on Wii U until Zelda releases?

(I meant all they have to show us, not all they have. Of course the NX is going to launch with a bunch of games.)
Well, we're going to have a reveal this year, it's just not at E3.

People here are more upset about this facts: "I can't hype up my E3 show" "I can't believe anyone thinks E3 isn't the holy grail of gaming conferences", "I want a E3 war / winner / blabla" etc.

If they won't show the NX now, they'll show it later, so I don't see the problem. Yes, I have to wait (again), but it won't change the release date of the NX (or it's games).

But maybe I'm just a bit more relaxed about this stuff than other people.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
Why does everyone seem to hate zelda today?

I love Zelda, but this game is 9 months away, and most people will be playing it on a completely different next-gen system to what they're demonstrating it on. It also indicates that Zelda Wii U could have been out this year, but is getting delayed because of the NX.

And yet they are relevant and more so than Nintendo because there products are great and they haven't had missteps.

Nintendo has had tons.

Depends on the developer you're talking about within Nintendo. I'd say their all star teams haven't really made any missteps, but their B teams sure have. You could say that since it all falls under the Nintendo branch, Nintendo's been releasing crap lately, etc. But, even considering this, there are few developers/publishers that have put out that many high quality games, in that many different genres, and at the rate that they do. Nintendo is still relevant.

Well Nintendo is in a situation where they need to start instilling confided to the public about their new console. They are becoming increasingly irrelevant in the console space. They should be trying to hype up NX and assure it'll have 3rd party support. This does nothing to inspire confidence in the new platform

And some of their hardest fans are trying to defend this non-confidence behavior.

That's my problem with this. Between Splatoon and the NX launch, we've had and will have a handful of games beyond the "filler" titles.

That's kind of an unfortunate reality of the situation. There's not really been much Nintendo could do to wind down the situation, they've pushed out some of their absolute best software on this console which is admirable but sooner or later they were inevitably going to run on fumes.

As much as I love my Wii U the writing was kind of on the wall when it came to 2016. Hopefully the time their devs have been busy has been spent in making the NX have a compelling start.

Why does everyone seem to hate zelda today?

Because Zelda is fundamentally associated with Nintendo and it's very hard to be optimistic about anything Nintendo related these days.

When was the last time Nintendo had a really positive media presence and public mindshare? E3 2014, with Splatoon's reveal and the first glimpse of Zelda? lt's been two years.

People realize the Wii U is a big time failure? Nintendo doesn't want to repeat that at all. They need to do everything possible to have the system ready to show from all corners.

If the plan was to show NX at E3, but there were some hiccups then it's cool.

I still feel like we'll see 3DS games near E3 with a direct or some kind of 3DS conference at E3.

Right, again, to maybe clarify a little more, its about the idea that the rest of this year really is going to be absolutely barren. I'm disappointed in the NX delay but that's a different topic and I understand that it doesn't matter when this year they blow that out.

Yeah.

I also have to say: I also understand that people are upset about this stuff (just like me in the beginning, but I'm fine with it now).

But rationally seen: This moaning here is more about console wars than anything else, at least in my opinion... which I understand too, we're in a gaming forum. :p

So whatever, fuck it, we have to wait. xD

That it's a bad look. There's nothing else to it. Really. I don't have to defend every sloppy move a business makes.

yes, what else? they are screwed if they show something unfinished, and they are screwed if they show it a later date, so what they can do? at least revealing it when they want has more chances of sucess

I was right. So, they'll pretend nothing else is going to come for Wii U and 3DS this year? Why the fuck would third parties every bother with Nintendo if they won't even acknowledge that they're bringing good content to their consoles? Fucking Dragon Quest VII & VIII, SMT IV: Apocalypse, and Zero Escape: Zero Time Dilemma alone are dropping this year and they won't ever give them a bit of publicity on a Direct? They're earned their lack of success in the console space without a doubt.

Yeah.

But I also have to say: I understand that people are upset, but rationally seen: This moaning here is more about console wars than anything else.

I see that for sure. I, personally, just want what's best financially for Nintendo since they make my favorite games. Obviously the best case scenario would have been an NX launch this year with a full slate of games, and this was kind of the (admittedly for the most part unsupported) conventional wisdom for a while, so the contrast with the reality of the situation creates negative feelings in myself at least.

Never said they weren't relevant just that press and exposure wise people like Bethesda and Rockstar have this larger than life following when a game get's shown or announced because of how broad their games are on a sales perspective.

GTA is the goat for open world stuff, Elder scrolls is the goat for open world fantasy lore stuff, fallout is the goat for playing around in a huge wasterland.

They have sold shit tons of those to millions, and they cater to a wider spectrum so there for the hype and response is that much more vocal.

So 9 months ahead of NX launch, they're just gonna show.... nothing. And I guess Wii U just has no 2016 games... this is Wii 2011/2012 all over again, except without the 100mm install base.

Why are so many people acting like this is shocking? Nintendo said they were not showing NX at e3. We know the wii u is pretty much dead. Kimishima said they were focusing everything on NX. They also said they would show NX at a later date. Stop whining, people. Info on the NX is coming. Be patient

It's fine having Zelda the main focus at E3, and the NX being revealed at their own private event, but what worries me is exactly this. I feel like they might not even show one final direct to remind everyone that several other games are coming out during the summer/fall for the Wii U and 3DS. Heck, we haven't even seen in-game footage of the new Pokemon games.

My thoughts exactly. So many have great games coming out on 3DS and they aren't bothering to give ANY attention toward those titles....what a shame :(.

All I really want is some 3ds news about upcoming and supposedly unannounced games. But I know most of the stuff I look forward too is 2016 so I'm not bothered by no e3 direct in particular.

This is definitely shaping up to be the weirdest E3 ever. When is the last time a new console has had zero presence at the E3 immediately preceding it's release? Even Ouya had that sad ass tent in the parking lot.

People here seem to forget that E3 is a trade show and is always going to be a trade show. It wasn't until recently when they started to add more spectacle. There's nothing that's been announced at E3 that couldn't have been announced at a publisher specific event and still receive the same amount of media coverage. I'd argue that coverage would be better at publisher specific events.

A publisher specific event can ensure that they're the big talking point for that week. They don't have to share the stage with hundreds of other games, or worry about being overshadowed in a couple of hours because someone had a better trailer. The time press spend with the game would be much longer, thus providing a more in-depth hands on. Hell, attach an event where the public can show up and play the announced games. That's how you create genuine hype that isn't blurred by the smoke and mirrors of E3.

I bet they don't even reveal the subtitle to the new Zelda. They'll probably refer to it as "Zelda for Wii U" the whole time.

Of course they're gonna reveal the name.

But... um... I also thought that...
...of course the NX will launch out this year
...of course it'd be revealed around E3.
...of course Zelda is the big Holiday 2016 title.

So what do I know.

Wait, so NX will literally have zero E3s??? Or we thinking holiday 2017 for NX?

The NX is shaping up to be the only system in recent memory not be shown at an E3 before launch, yes.

Yeah, it's going to be a long six months from E3. ^^

I believe NX is going to be revealed in Q4 this year (hopefully not December lol), until then it's quite barren on the Wii U side, but the system is dead and supporting it now would only take resources away from NX.
