Rumor: Bethesda will announce Skyrim remaster at E3

Exactly. It has to be a downgrade from a modded Skyrim, since there's no way a single studio can churn out all the graphics work and mega-high cheese wheel textures

As much as I loved Skyrim, much of the fun of it came from exploring the entirety of the map, clearing out every dungeon, and doing all the little side quests. ...And I've already done all that. So, I'll pass.

However, I'd be surprised if they didn't add in something like FO4's settlements.

Remasters are popular but personally, I really don't see the point in remastered games which are only one generation old. Graphics aren't everything, just play the original!
Morrowind or Daggerfall would have been much better, with updated gameplay etc. Of course these would have to be remakes rather than remasters, which I think is the crux of my disappointment in this recent surge of remasters, they often seem like quick cash grabs. Which of course is perfectly fine if there is a market for them, I just won't be buying.

Pointless exercise on PC, unless they can make it look better than mods can.

And they can't.

I doubt it will be aimed at PC players.

I moved to PC gaming exclusively when Skyrim originally came out. I had a PS3, played Skyrim a ton on it, and it was a pain in the ass with the sluggish performance and the save file bug that caused load times to grow longer and longer. I built a gaming PC and never turned back. If I want to play "Skyrim Remastered" I can reinstall the same game I purchased years ago, click a few high-res textures packs on the workshop, and I'm done. Folks that are console gamers can only go back to the shit versions (relatively speaking) from last gen, plus it seems like every new BGS game is somebody's first BGS game, so if someone got FO4 and loved it but never played Skyrim, a remaster would be a great option.

I want to buy a game once and reinstall it every 5 years so it feels like a free remaster. (looking forward to reinstalling stuff like GTA5 and FO4 in a few years when I've built a system that can run them at 4k/60hz)

Many people sold or traded in their previous consoles. Remastering a game like Skyrim makes perfect sense, regardless of its age.

It's also not just about graphics. Skyrim can benefit greatly with improved performance on a home console.

The game hasn't aged too well, unless you're playing with mods on PC. Curious if it's any significant upgrade. At least it shouldn't run like dog shit.

With all that said, Day 1.

Like I said, if there is a market then of course I don't have a problem. I don't own a current gen console and play most games on PC. Perhaps that is why I don't share the enthusiasm for these remasters. I just sooner see remakes of classic older games.

Chances of the graphics looking like at least Fallout 4?

I mean that game already looks dated in plenty of areas, I imagine Skyrim probably really hasn't aged all that well.

$40 and mod support and I'm in day 1. Hell just having the PS4 rest mode feature is worth it alone, cant go back to any ps3 games because that feature ruined me.

Yeah, rest mode is the best new feature of this generation. It's completely changed how I play games.
Exactly, I've never been one to play games for more than an hour or two at a time so being able to start back up with no loading keeps me coming back. Might actually finish skyrim this time around lol.

Seems to early to be moving people to another Bethesda RPG, even if it is their older product, when they aren't finished with putting out Fallout 4 DLC.

Different genres though. Post-apocalyptic shooter versus high-fantasy dragons and magick. Separate audiences (with a bit of crossover) to cater for.

It's strange that Bethesda was able to fix the atrocious shadows from Skyrim with Fallout 4.

Hopefully the remaster will keep the technical progress without giving us the same gameplay "enhancements".

This is cool and I am glad it's happening, but I'm not playing Skyrim again unless it is with the Requiem mod.

I wish New Vegas was getting a remaster.

Morrowind? No thanks

Unless they basically inject skyrim combat into it, who would honestly want to play that RNG combat "hey that totally hit you but nope guess not because dice roll" it has?
Morrowind combat has far, far more depth and variety than Skyrim. Is it perfect? No. But it's pretty great.

I never played this last-gen, so I would definitely be interested in trying it out. Although I gave up on Oblivion because I disliked the combat and environment, and more recently I feel like I've been spoiled by Soulsborne, Dragon's Dogma and I'm currently playing The Witcher 3. I fear that Skyrim would still have shit combat which would seem even more intolerable in light of having played these games.

Listened to the Podcast, Shinobi on fire!

Also sorta hinting towards something R* related - by actually denying to say anything about R*. ;)

My money is on Red Dead Redemption 2 at Sony´s.

All I can really do is scratch my head and ask why. Skyrim was not a good game, it had some great environments and scenery but outside of that it was a terrible game. Maybe cause I played on console and never got to play the mods and such but then even so that isn't Skyrim it's a community built game. So yeah still scratching my head in confusion.

Because it sold over 20 million copies...

Great game with a huge fanbase, still loved by many to this day.

Also a million seller.

Scratching my head in confusion regarding your post.

So what improvements could we realistically see with this?

60fps
Better textures
Load screens going in buildings
1080p
Gameplay tweaks

?

Well good thing you dont have to buy it then. But for the rest of us who play on consoles and arent interested in a gaming
Pc, this is great news! Im 160 hours deep into fallout 4 and im totally ready to put another 200 hours into skyrim

Yeah something is coming from R*, I have listened to Shinobi on two E3 podcasts and he seems hyped for stuff coming to Sonys conference, my guess is he is hyped for God of War 4 and Sony Bend's title, add to that RDR2 and Sony could have a great conference.

Back to thread, I do not think I will buy a Skyrim remaster, would have liked them to remaster the older Elder Scrolls titles. I guess a remastered collection is out of the question.

Played 360 version last gen, and while it performed decently compared to PS3, there were so many bugs and texture glitches that I never finished it. If the price was right I would try again, but with Bethesda, I'm not even sure they could get stable performance on this gen, once 1080p and better effects are in play.

Ugh. Enough with the remasters already. Its year three of the gen, how about make some new games?

Not this post again...this does not stop the new games from being made. Do you think if this remaster was not a thing a new game would take it's place? It is not how it works.

The timing is a bit odd. If they do mod support, 1080p 60fps, all DLC and improved visuals for £30 it might sell ok.

I'm not buying it though. Got the Platinum on PS3, completed it on 360 and own it on PC.
