I thought MS presentation was one of the worst ones they have ever had but I also wasn't expecting a lot from Sony but man after watching it this morning they showed why they are the leader and will remain that way. Nothing but non stop games I want to play. Not sure about that Zombie game though it looked a bit generic but Spiderman and GOW looked so insane. Funny watching the trailers from the MS conference then seeing Sony's games it made sense why they had to announce a half baked dream of a console.

Large parts of the MS conference were games we saw last year and I thought the Scorpio announcement was very lame. Nothing substantial, a year and a half away, as much fluff as the cloud.

the call of duty demo was amazing. I was thinking... what this space game? Eve? no.... holy shit CoD lol

That was a massive surprise for me.
I'd already put CoD in the garbage bin and wheeled it to the kerb.
I was done with that trash. Going futuristic had no appeal for me. Battlefield 1 was where I was now at.
After that demo I had to go back out and rummage through my trash for my love of CoD.
Well done Activision and Infinity Ward.

I'm hyped for Forza Horizon 3. That looks sweet. Not sweet enough for a console purchase but a PC release can drag me in.

I think the conference ended somewhat awkward.

Days Gone looks neat and all, but it seemed evident that it was out of place. It appeared as if they had to salvage the payoff, with a last minute change in schedule.

Yeah, it was really odd. I don't think that game was ready to be shown as a live demo, definitely felt shoved in at the end. Maybe they really were going to talk about Neo, or RDR and R* decided to wait till later in the week for their reveal, or who the heck knows. It does leave the door open for this year's Sony conspiracy theory about what they changed because MS went first.

I took it as possible tech issues. It started right where the trailer earlier ended, so maybe instead of halting the pace of the conference to get it fixed (and keep in line with showing gameplay with almost everything shown last night), they moved right on and came back to it later.

I think Spider-Man must have been the expected end, but Days Gone threw a wrench in it.

Does anyone else think Shawn Layden has an odd cadence to his talking?

When.he's.talking ... it.kind.of.has.a.cadence. ... of.speeding.up.and.slowing.down. ... in.bursts.

Sony did have the best conference this year. I loved the fast pace moving from trailer to trailer. The only downsides I thought was so many of the games shown seemed quite a ways out, 2017 and 2018 games - not many release dates shown. And given Sony's history with indies, I was surprised by their absence - though I suppose as others have said, PSX is more the show for those types of games.

I was really surprised that their show was *under* 90 minutes.

Best of show for me was RE7 and Death Standing

FH3 is god tier presentation, game look crazy fun, dev was sincere hype. It's was the highlight of MS show for me, but the only highlight.
Thanks MS for PC release.

I think they just wanted to try a different approach this year. They transitioned from "keynote" to "presentation", the latter being more of a stage show meant to entertain, more than educate and inform. By comparison, Xbox was still very much a keynote, having different division heads on stage doing their awkward speeches, reading verbatim from teleprompters. The decision by Sony to not do that was very refreshing.

It's ironic you say this, since most of the stuff Sony showed is at least as far away if not more so. What did they give a date to (again, ironically) besides the Last Guardian? The VR stuff is almost certainly going to bomb, I'm not sure what the market for a $400 device is that lets people re-enact Dave and Buster's in their basements. I currently have it pre-ordered, but probably won't be keeping it after what I saw yesterday.

Sony nailed it. Great conference. God of War, Spider-Man, Days Gone...so good.

100% agree, the orchestra was also a master stroke.

My only complaint is I would have loved Adam to come on stage and announce a bunch of new indie titles, but I am sure they will have plenty to show at Gamescom in a couple of months.

This might actually be the first E3 where I...actually preferred Microsoft's conference, I think. Or maybe they were about equal in terms of pros and cons for me.

I liked (in varying severities):
- The live orchestra.
- The Last Guardian release date!
- Horizon still looking cool.
- God of War seemed neat.
- The super surprising Resident Evil 7 reveal.
- Kojima teaser, I guess.
- Potential for a good Spiderman game again.

Was not too impressed by the Star Wars/Skylanders stuff, the VR "experiences", or Days Gone.

After having just watched the MS conference and skipping through the Sony one again, I'm kind of surprised by the lack of indie games. Unless I missed a few? A shame they didn't show the really incredible Abzu trailer.

Yeah it's tough for me to justify holding onto the PSVR preorder at this point but i am curious to see show floor impressions in terms of performance. I assume at Gamescom we will see more on stuff like RIGS.

I'm sure RE7 VR is big for some people but damn I can't imagine playing a horror game like that in VR. I wouldn't make it.

I can't tell if this is trolling or not, but it makes absolutely no sense. Completely ignoring peoples tastes in games, you cannot say that MS was only showing games that were years out. MS' games were either coming out this year or in Q1 next year and they said as much.

Similar to last year, the majority of Sony's games were discussed with absolutely no release window and we have is speculation. The Kojima game is still deciding on an engine. Sony uses E3 to announce stuff far in the future, MS uses it for stuff that will by out by the next E3.

Two of the big three games from last year were never even mentioned this year.

Live Orchestra was the best addition. Needs to be every year
Those are some talented professional musicians, must costs a pretty penny no? Not every year is God of War year either.

But yeah, I would love for this template to become the standard for Sonys E3. Breaking up the formula when necessary.

Also are people assuming right in that Andrew House interview is reactionary to Scorpio being really powerful? I thought the early rumors were that MS was caught off guard by Neo?

Sony is in a tough position with VR, much like MS was with Kinect back in the day. They have invested heavily into this tech, and they want to push it forward, and have people accept it, and to do that, you need to show it off. But at the same time, they also realize that not everyone is interested, and will be bored during this part of the show. Unfortunately, you can't have it both ways, so I appreciate that they showed VR, but kept it short. (as someone who does not have plans of buying it, but thinks it looks pretty cool)

I legit thought COD was a VR title. Looked a little messy at times.

But it also looked like the most fun COD game in ages to me so I'll probably pick it up later after release.

Another very good conference from Sony. Anyway I don't care so much for the conference but the games announced. Excited for Spiderman, Days Gone and God of War Nordic has intrigued me greatly.

^I listed what I wanted. Those plus some crazy dormant game IP announcements like Onimusha, Devil May Cry, Siren, Mega Man, Fatal Frame, Final Fantasy Tactics - stuff like that rather than the usual AAA snorefests full of zombies. And where the heck was From Software?

God of Bore. Predictable as hell making a new one.
Kojima was good, yes
Resident Evil 7 that looks nothing like Resident Evil.
Crash? So shocking.
Generic zombie game no. 789. Shocking.
TLG release date, well it's only been a decade
Spiderman tie in with movie from Sony? Shocking.

None of those are anywhere near as surprising as FFVII remake, Shenmue 3, Yakuza 0 localization or The Last Guardian's reappearance.

Seems like you only care about shock value, which is quite honestly fucking stupid. To diminish Sony's conference which was nothing but game after game after game is silly.

You're so disingenuous. Get the hell out of here.

The VR segment was all fluff. They showed literally nothing of substance during the VR demo except Resident Evil, which as I don't want a heart attack is not a seller for me.

They showed just enough Star Wars to make me think, "OK, now we're talking... wait, what? How about some gameplay?". Nothing else in the VR presentation really grabbed my interest.

As for the other non-VR games shown, not having dates on most of it was a drag. You know a lot of that stuff we're not seeing for years.

I like the new direction for God of War.. probably. Hard to get a read. But that frame rate was super, super rough so we are a ways out from that one.

Days Gone, is Sony competing with itself now? Are we not getting Last of Us 2? Because frankly, Days Gone looks like a weak sister compared to State of Decay 2 and Dead Rising 4. Let alone a potential TLOU sequel.

Horizon, I can see the appeal for some, but it really didn't grab me. The battle sequence with the mini boss or whatever went on *forever*.

Spiderman looked awesome. Glad we're not getting another Infamous game from those dudes, I think they've found their calling.

The android Quantic Dream game.. yes please. I'm sure it's a long ways out, but anyone who likes Blade Runner is going to be picking that one up.

Overall, I think both the Microsoft and Sony keynotes were a bit disappointing. Microsoft had more substance (i.e. games we're going to see relatively soon, with polished gameplay to match) but was relatively boring, and Sony's had more energy but very little in the way of games we're going to see this year.

The REAL disappointment is Nintendo being MIA, yet again. NX had better be something amazing.

If they have like 50 games/demos/experiences for vr they should have had a separate E3 conference for day 3 to promote vr. Its releasing this year and i think they only mentioned like maybe 5 games for it. I feel like its being sent out to die unless gamescom is where they hype vr.

Spiderman is getting made by Insomniac games who make ratchet and clank and made sunset overdrive. Sucker punch productions make Infamous.

If people didn't like this show, I'm willing to bet that you'll be disappointed in every E3 from now on. Sony has started to transition the big stage demos and talks with devs, indies, presentations from Shu and Boyes, etc to PSX. That's where they want to get into the details and give you dates, presentations by devs, etc. E3 is just their hour long sizzle reel for stuff you'll see more of at PSX.

Lack of even vague release dates put a damper on what was an otherwise good conference, really hard to get too excited for games that are seemingly so far out, especially given the state of flux gaming consoles are in now. It really felt like a Neo showcase without actually announcing the console.

I gotta say I was pretty much floored by Sony's presser. I will be buying nearly every dam thing they showed, same with my brother. I don't think we've been this excited about games for a while. Sony really upping the game to a new level. I used to kid and call it delay station 4 some times, but now that I can see what they are doing I'm all for it. Seems Sony is working really hard to polish all first party IP's. E3 the conference was fun to watch, I'm surprised they went with a live orchestra and just let the trailers roll for the most part. Man I hope they can keep this up, because they are doing everything right. I'm even interested in VR again.

Last year was fantastic due to the surprises and confirmations of rumours deemed unlikely. This year was a better show overall though. Game after game, with a live orchestra and very limited amount of pr talk. Fantastic show and the games did all the talking for themselves.

Nearly every title shown is right up my alley and VR looks interesting. Surprised they saved GT and Dreams. Also makes me wonder what Sucker Punch is making, I was really expecting Spidey to be their thing, though I trust Insomniac so all is good.

Fine, I respect your opinion, but the bolded has me raising my eyebrow. If you are honestly comparing Days Gone (wasn't that the title of a walking dead episode?) to Dead Rising, I'm not sure we are seeing the same thing. Dead Rising is an arcade-y take on zombie survival, while State of Decay looked to me to be a co-op or MMO type game (maybe I am wrong).

It does however look like the Last of Us, but with more intense action. Honestly, if I had to categorize it, it would be Walking Dead on steroids, which is fine. People really like these type of games, or studios wouldn't be making them. We've only seen a small part of the game, so maybe it offers a lot more than what we've seen in the past.

Loved the conference. Perfectly executed with very little unnecessary fluff. Lots of game showing and some neat surprises. I think the thing that absolutely floored me was the Infinite Warfare gameplay. My jaw dropped. They did the right thing holding the Call of Duty logo until the end.

I'm in complete agreement. Still feels like they are just dipping their toe in the water. Beyond RE7 (which looks great and is perfect for VR but may not be everyones cup of tea), they were pitching single missions and "experiences" that are tied to big name franchises, they need to roll out real games to get people to drop $400 on hardware that they may not support.

A lot of these VR experiences look like great tech demos and stuff for kiosks, but would you really replay that same thing at home?

I think I'd be interested once they show some VR-integrated games with promise. (Here's hoping RE7 pulls it off.) Would be funny if they charged for the VR experiences/teasers that they're making, but I doubt it.

I really wish Bend was reimagining Syphon Filter or something along those lines in the spy/secret agent genre. That feels like a hole that needs filling not like this sort of reactionary years late zombie apocalypse game. I really am a fan of the studio and I'm glad to see them actually making something and not just working as tech support but the Days Gone stuff doesn't really do much for me so far. But I bet there is a hook or something more to it because there just has to be.

Its not reactionary.
When we get more details on the game I think you guys will all change our tune.

Man all their games outside of Sea of Thieves and Happy People or whatever did not look good.

Gears looks boring. I mean even if your a Gears fan that demo was so by the numbers but with a less interesting cast and not the great visuals Gears is known for. They are chasing the set pieces of Uncharted but don't know how to do it well so you get the odd stop and start to the gameplay which does nothing.

Scale bound looked really bad like wow they shouldn't have demoed that at all.

Horizon looked great but not AMAZING great but yeah another Horizon very cool.

What else did they have? I honestly can't even remember the rest of their conference.

Oh and ReCore wow that looked terrible.

It was probably the worst showing MS has ever had at E3.
