The UK votes to leave the European Union

This is actually a big problem in modern politic in general. We're in a age of boundless information and still people seen to be less informed then ever. I guess, people simply believe they know anything, without actually knowing the real backgrounds. And everybody can build their own bubble, by just consuming the information, they want the world to look like.
Well said, spot on. I would add that, with all the information out there, even some informed people have the option of only ingesting information that supports their views, thus creating an ignorantly "informed bubble", a reality distortion field of sorts.
-EDIT:
Part of the problem is, a large proportion of the media that people do consume to learn more is ridiculously biased.

Most of the newspapers were completely biased towards leave, spreading the same lies that were part of the Leave's campaign.
Ah, you beat me to it.

A expert on Sky was saying that the Dutch are watching this closely and if they see the UK getting a terrible deal they may push for a referendum as they will feel better to go now than in 10 years time when it will be worse...

he might be talking out of his ass

The prediction polls never lie, do it!

Truer words were never spoken.

That's probably true. Who listens to experts anyway?

Of course he's fucking talking out of his ass. What an insanely ludicrous and umb thing.

"Lets' cripple ourselves now because in 10 years time we might be crippled more if we do this thing no-one wants to do anyway!".

No other EU country has as much support as we did for leaving the EU - even in countries which think even worse of the EU than the UK, like France.

Seriously, do you have to persist in this habit of just parroting back whatever you hear / see anywhere if it agrees with your views without any form of critical thinking or filter at all?

There hasn't been a single coherent argument about what we're going to do next. It's either Brexiters keeping quiet cause they know they've fucked us all over, or a bunch of incoherent nonsense about German car manufactuers.

It's like listening to Trump talking "we're gonna go to Brussels and we're gonna get a great deal, it's gonna be the best deal cause let me tell ya I know how these people work, cause I've been to Brussels and I love Brussels and they love me that I can tell you. It's gonna be great, we're gonna get the best deals".

That actually is it. That's it. Throw in 'and also the rest of the world, like we couldn't before' and that's it.

We are a fucking JOKE.

With each passing day the more and more anger I feel towards Leave voters, and unfortunately that includes a couple of friends.

I also can't help but look at the older generation with absolute contempt, even though I acknowledge many of whom would've voted to Remain.

I don't feel I'll ever forgive them for what they've done to this country.

Well I think the grey vote are going to get fucked over in the next budget, unless the government really want to slap the young in the face even further.

Let's be honest about this referendum. It's stupid. This is akin to saying 52% of people said we should burn witches again and the government blindly signing off on it because it's the will of the people.....

It's not remotely like that. The vote to hold the referendum was passed in the House of Commons by 316 to 53. I can't imagine they'll pass a bill to hold a referendum on the burning of witches anytime soon.

I see the hyperbole about the whole thing continues to carry on and heighten. It's a democracy. This is the very definition of a democracy - rule by majority (and with an extraordinarily large turnout even). If the voters don't make the rules, who does? All this rubbish about Leave lies (Remain told more than few porkies themselves), regretful voters etc. is pathetic.

Oh, he is. Other than the PVV (and an offshoot of the PVV that will disappear after next elections) there is only one party on the right in favour of referendums in general, most being in fact strongly opposed to the concept. And that one party is the most pro-EU party in our parliament. On the left, there is euroscepticism on the fringes, but no one there is saying leaving the EU would be a good idea. Mainstream left is pro-Europe.

So unless the PVV manages to get an absolute majority in parliament and in the senate (theoretically possible around mid 2019 to get both), it's not happening. And for the record, absolute majorities don't happen here. Ever.

Should probably not trust the 7-11 security cameras quite so much
It's quite amazing how we are still getting Leave people hand-waving away the grave economic consequences of the vote. Basically everybody is too embarrassed to admit that they ignored the experts, so fuck it, may as well double-down on the bullshit.

"We've had enough of experts" is the kind of attitude that could destroy our country, this referendum has shone a harsh light on the level of ignorance that most of the public has wallowed in as successive governments have told all kinds of outrageous lies and had them reinforced by most of the press.

Except the young deserve an equal part of your scorn. The turnouts were frankly embarrassing for 18-24yrs, and hardly great for 25-35.

I'm trying to remember that a lot of them didn't know what they were releasing into the world. But not gonna lie, I got my hair cut yesterday and the family friend who does it was spouting all kinds of "nobody knows what will happen, I think it's a great move" and "I voted leave because the Tories have too much control" and I really wanted to get out of that chair. Had to bite my tongue pretty hard.

Just remember, it's not only on the older generation. This was a gaffe from all sides of the table.

So I felt that expert Sam Bowen on Sky (Director of free market, so a remain voter) said something that I thought was a good idea, what does GAF think...

The UK should sign up to EEA for a period of 5 to 10 years (soft transition) to allow businesses and people to get used to the idea and get ready, and in 10 years we bring a full deal to restrict freedom of movement and a true british deal...

I thought that sounded really fair, both parties win,, freedom of movement and a clear end to freedom of movement.

Because it was probably the assumption the electorate would not be that dumb or stupid. It was a political referendum of appeasement that has backfired spectacularly. I'm guessing the same assumption would be made about holding a referendum on burning witches.

Hang on, let them have the referendum, it's not as if they are actually stupid enough to vote Yes.

I blame the media also. Here in Wales over the weekend the papers were showing front and center EXACTLY the EU money they stand to lose in the most starkest non bullshit terms.

THIS COVERAGE DID NOT HAPPEN LAST WEEK. WHY THE FUCK NOT.

Remain should have been more in your face all over the shop, with a simpler, clearer message. Leave has controlled an awful lot of the narrative from the start because they've appealed to people's emotions - largely fear and anger, which isn't about rationally listening to facts and figures. They also had the easier position - opposition to the status quo can say any old bullshit they like because they aren't the people with the power.

Although to be fair, the remain campaign have been saying 'we will be worse off' since the very beginning of the campaign. And no Leave voters bought it. I think if this article had been published last week, there would have been a resounding cry of 'rubbish, it'll be fine' from the Brexit people. People are only starting to believe it now it's happening. And we have been lied to by so many politicians over and over, that it's hardly surprising in a way that the Boys who Cried Wolf don't get the benefit of the doubt the one time they're actually being straight (ish) with people.

But yeah, that information was always there, it was just being shouted down by 'Make Britain Great Again' 'Sovereignty' and 'Immigrants Out' rhetoric. I'm Welsh, living in West Yorkshire (the North of England also big recipients of EU funding), voted remain, feeling sick. I mean if not even the murder of Jo Cox could make people think again in my area, I honestly don't see what an infographic about EU funding would have done :/

Fucking shit owned.

Who's owned!?

Scotland going all in and getting standing ovation, now Northern Ireland. This is serious shit going on now, could make UK look very bad and destroy its reputation as a democratic leader if NI and Scottish forced into leaving against their will.

Scotland going all in? Is this on this EU parliament meeting? Who spoke for Scotland?

Really wish I could watch this at work / whatever it is you are watching.

Thank god our ministers in charge say they don't want any referendum about a nexit whatsoever. Our prime minister said he was "totally, totally, totally" against a referendum and for it to happen without a majority in favour, he would have to initiate it. Thankfully, most other parties seem to agree with him as well.

You'd have to be a complete idiot to push for an exit right now (so, Geert Wilders), and I trust my government enough to not make the same catastrofic mistake as the UK did last week, which was seemingly largely based on lies and propaganda.

Please do not let me serve on a jury. I am actually a crazy person.
To be fair, that Telegraph article about an italian bank (Unicredit) collapsing is long overdue. Shit's going down since January - Brexit didn't help, but it's not even collapsing yet. Nothing related in the main italian news outlets.

.. Threading on thin ice here. Recent got gifs are dangerous.

But then you still leave the common market after 5-10 years. That's not much of a consolation when the problem people have is that they don't want to leave it at all.

Y'all are also crazy if you think a decent amount of Leave voters will change their mind based on these updates. If anything they're more likely to feel bullied by the EU and want to leave even more regardless of the consequences. If Leave voters cared about consequences they wouldn't have voted Leave.

We're still pretending that most Leave voters understood the consequences of their vote are we?

Yeah it was on Sky News, Alyn Smith, SNP basically saying we didn't want this, so stand by us, to a standing ovation.

Keep GOT spoilers out the thread, man. I guess that's ruined the end of series 6.

Blame the politicians and media, they whipped everyone up into a frenzy in the run up to this referendum.

So you're just delaying it for five to ten years? What's the point of that?

This is what we need.

This is the move that can force westminster to overturn the referendum.

It'll look even less democratic to drag two countries out of the EU against their peoples will. This is the move that can save the UK.

I don't think that politicians will act maliciously to destroy the British economy, but it is clear that the EU's leadership will avoid reform for as long as possible.

(Here is the article in English. The contempt the author has for the UK is pretty awful.)

Pfft still bitter about us stopping Napoleon.

Oh, so now we listen to experts. Good to know.
Had to find this bit from Thunderf00t, that whole "we're tired of the experts" shit you guys had to put up with is the same shit we're hearing from the right and Donald over here across the pond.

The only satisfaction will be you WILL eventually get to watch the Leave eat some shit, I think. They will have to admit how stupid it all was. There's no way to pass the buck on this one.

Yep becomes a choice, leave EU and finish the Union off. Or stay in EU, risk pissing off the English Leave voters and save the Union for likely a generation or so.

Overturning the referendum with a turnup of over 70% will always be seen as more undemocratic. And rightfully so.

Farage ate shit in EU parliament. Being laughed at even showing up, getting called out on campaign lies, campaign tactics which are comparable to Nazi propaganda, and lastly:

And all this vocal rejection by 'the European establishment' will do is make him and others like him more popular.

I’m in absolute despair at how things are turning out. I keep thinking maybe things will turn out ok in the end, but I’m struggling to keep this optimism.

Politically, I cannot see myself voting for Labour anymore. They are a shambles and have been for a while, especially in Scotland. Even my resistance to Scottish independence has crumbled now...Ugh...

There's no way that can be considered less democratic than going against the will of (especially in Scotlands choice) an entire country.

That's basically like saying Scottish people don't matter. There needs to be another referendum or it needs to be overturned. Something as serious as this can't be ignored.

You can't go against an entire population of people. The leave voters, over 7% of which have shown in polls to regret their vote already and it's only going to increase.
