The UK votes to leave the European Union

I’m in absolute despair at how things are turning out. I keep thinking maybe things will turn out ok in the end, but I’m struggling to keep this optimism.

Politically, I cannot see myself voting for Labour anymore. They are a shambles and have been for a while, especially in Scotland. Even my resistance to Scottish independence has crumbled now...Ugh...

Yep I have embraced Scottish Independence after near 30 years of opposition, I don't want to be England puppet nation any longer. Labour are finished, never thought I would ever swap my political allegiance, cannot believe what's happened.

We're still pretending that most Leave voters understood the consequences of their vote are we?

I think we're being naive if we think any great proportion of Leave voters would change their minds at this point. These people don't have a share portfolio, they don't have any interest in working or studying abroad, they already paid off their mortgages. The economic consequences may be real but they don't affect them in a meaningful way, it's easy for them to ignore them in favour of "taking back control".

The public just can't be trusted. It's up to parliament to take us back from the brink, but I doubt they are brave enough to put their necks on the line.

Farage ate shit in EU parliament. Being laughed at even showing up, getting called out on campaign lies, campaign tactics which are comparable to Nazi propaganda, and lastly:

Just a bunch of European bullies bullying a proud English patriot.

Farage needs to be outed as the asshole that he is more than he needs to be punched in the face.

What do you want then, an autocracy? Bizarre.

No. Although given our current circumstances.......

A referendum is definitely something that should be extended to the people, but it is a reasonable assumption to make (when offering one) that your electorate are actually well informed, both politically and economically. This referendum has shown the complete opposite. The reasons and blame for this are not important at this point.

For the record, the question of whether we should actually be in the EU should never have been made to the people, as evidenced. This is where the elected are expected to make their money and earn their place in Parliament. Again, the blame lies elsewhere for this.

But you wouldn't expect a doctor to come into theatre and ask you where to start cutting.

I just realised that if we're forced to accept similar terms to Norway we'll be part of the Schengen zone. That'd be kinda great.

For remain voters not much would change. (Some will be disappointed though that they are no longer a real part of the united European project anymore. It's not just about economics but also about identity, believes and values after all.
The Leave voters however have fucked themselves. They will still pay, they will still abide to the EU rules and accept free movement of people aka immigration but have no say in anything anymore. So much for taking back control.

I really wouldn't be too worried, how old are you?, I've been through numerous doom and gloom situations, and the sky never caves in, sure, you'll probably have to pull your belt in, spend less and your money won't be worth as much, but the world will keep turning.

What a fucking mess, Farage on the parlliament was such a disgrace, is he really throwing jabs at the people that hold ALL the power?

Negotiation skills are the same of a 5 year old it seems, great job! I predit the pound will come to 1,15€ later this week, achieving an all time low. What a fucking twat, can he not see, UK is in a fucking sinking ship because of all this? Can he not see, without the EU and single market acess, the country will be in a worse crisis than Greece?

"we're tired of all the experts and fear mongering..."

So I felt that expert Sam Bowen on Sky (Director of free market, so a remain voter) said something that I thought was a good idea, what does GAF think...

The UK should sign up to EEA for a period of 5 to 10 years (soft transition) to allow businesses and people to get used to the idea and get ready, and in 10 years we bring a full deal to restrict freedom of movement and a true british deal...

I thought that sounded really fair, both parties win,, freedom of movement and a clear end to freedom of movement.

UK gets special EU deal, leaves anyway a year later.
UK gets EEA deal, leaves later.
???
UK gets even better deal

We should just ignore Article 50 to send Nigel back to the EU parliament for another 5 years and never leave. Would be hilarious.

A expert on Sky was saying that the Dutch are watching this closely and if they see the UK getting a terrible deal they may push for a referendum as they will feel better to go now than in 10 years time when it will be worse...

he might be talking out of his ass
It's bizarre which "experts" you choose to listen to

I wonder if the whole banana outrage is related to the fact that Britain can't grow bananas for shit, so they have to import all of them.

Maybe there's a large underground market for bananas with its own stipulations and standards, moving bendy bananas as if they were hard currency.

Bananas are serious business. In the war we had popular songs about how the shops didn't sell Bananas any more. No joke.

Did you hear the boos when he said "lets have a tarif free trading deal"...?

Does he really think that will happen, specially after looking like a 5 year old twat, who says "ill call my dad if you hurt me" ? Oh god...this country will burn without a war, this gets sadder everyday.

Lol, what are you talking about dude. The only guy screaming for a referendum isn't even in power to push for one.

Excellent speech by Farage, well constructed fodder for his base. Full of half-truths, infantile insults, insufferable arrogance and willful ignorance. I fully expect a hero's welcome for him back home, the country where he has failed to be elected an MP many many times.

An odious little snake of a man, a playground bully who never shed his skin, instead preferring to make a career out of the skinned knees he so proudly produced from the smaller kids he pushed over in school, writ large, in politics.

Cunt.

Managed to catch Sky News Tweet of Alyn Smith getting a standing ovation. First thing to put a smile on my face for a while. Scotland looks good.

"Even no deal is better than the current rotten deal that we've got" - Farage

What does that even mean? Is it really more important to stop dirty brown people working here than it is to have a functioning economy? It just gets more depressing every day, none of the maniacs who brought us to this point are willing to accept that anything bad is happening.

Sky News

The markets have experienced a 'dead cat bounce' term used in London markets it seems.... basically means 'some' (I used the word some before people roll on me) feel the market is lower than where people expected it to be and now we have bargain hunters coming in

anyway, the result is the markets and the pound are moving up

It's terrifying quite how racist he is.

Myself? Early 30s with a wife and a 1-year old child. My main concern is not for myself, but for the future prospects for of youth who will find that their possibilities limited in ways that were not when I was growing up.
