Final EVO 2016 Entrants numbers and Scheduled finals lineup

Mkx drop not shocking. It's not the new hotness anymore where everyone enters to try it. Same happened with mk9 and injustice.

Still the numbers show steady growth for the actual nrs community when you compare 2nd year entrants for the 3 games.

So with all these numbers out , who will actually be IN vegas next week ? From here anyway. I'm going solo this year (what better place to go 0-2 in SFV than EVO?) and have to monorail it up the street because of how late I booked :p

A bunch of us from FGHQ will be there. Looks for us in the gaming community thread.

So whats the protocol when Smash runs late again?

Unlike Smash, SFV will be televised, so they'll probably cut the Smash stream and force a switch?

Their is no way Melee takes over 4 hours when everything besides WF, LF, and GF is 2/3. The only way Melee runs late is if all the top 8 collude to make every game time out(or use up almost all the time) and go down to the final game of the set. I would like to believe that our Smash brethren's wouldn't want that even if they could make it happen....right?

Come hell or high water I would imagine Mr. Wizard will make sure SFV starts on time due to the ESPN broadcast. I doubt he would want anything to jeopardize future coverage.

It's a buffer for all four games, not just smash.

Fighting games almost always run late. So they are just allocating extra time to smash to cater for it.

Melee right before SFV? I wonder why MvC was pushed up in the schedule.

Because people hate on Marvel just because, and Nintendo people support Smash no matter what.

It's amazing people say Marvel lost popularity because it's gone years without an update , but have no problem with a GameCube game being 2nd to last.

This is the first year the games are ordered in terms of entrants and Marvel isn't getting preferential treatment.

tbh, as the sixth popular game at evo, it shouldn't even be on sunday.

Honestly I'm not bothered what day it comes on. This is the first year I don't have to suffer through a late running smash game beforehand and that is good enough for me.

If Marvel didn't run on Sunday, then I probably wouldn't watch Sunday at all. Anything you could replace it with. (Smash 4, KI) are not games I would be remotely interested in.

Meh. If he wins is going to give the money back to Evo like he did on the Capcom Cup? He pretty much financed SkiSonic's schooling lol. Weirdest fucking donation.

For what it's worth, Daigo's donation did not go to Skisonic. Skisonic won the scholarship the year previous. It was just a flawed Eventhubs headline that associated the two of them.

They really should have both Smash games on Sunday. They don't have to run back to back. I think if one kicked the day off then anyone that isn't interested can just skip it. The second most entered game being on Saturday is nuts.

I think it's kind of hilarious how BlazBlue's release schedule always seems designed to screw it out of an Evo slot.

Similar to how ASW's release schedule in general screws their games out of having an active playerbase a year after release.

That too. Admittedly, the fans' capricious nature doesn't help. Even if BB was somehow there, it'd get creamed by Revelator.

Ok, then don't watch sunday if they replace Marvel... We don't care.

This will be the first fighting game tournament I've watched in a while. The games I'm most excited for are Smash 4 and SF5, though I'm also interested in getting a look at competitive Pokken.

Those Marvel 3 and GG holds are better than expected. NRS games gonna NRS.

Smash Melee remains the biggest anomaly ever though. Only Melee is older than Marvel 3 on that list even though Marvel is the longest running game at EVO this year.

But the thing is that we kinda already have a Smash game on Sunday. While Mr. Wizard did say it's nothing hard-fast, diversity is something to consider when picking the Sunday games. And at least as of January (when they decided), Melee was clearly the better spectator's game of the Smash games & still is. That's not to say that Smash 4 isn't getting better, but you get the idea.

Melee second last works out pretty well, the Smash crowd should have the patience to stay for one fgc game while people have a 4 hour block to get dinner before SF5.

I don't think using diversity as the reason for keeping Smash 4 on Saturday is fair though. Smash 4 and Melee are not only the second and third most popular games at EVO this year (and last iirc), but are very different games anyway with relatively little player overlap.

Smash 4 obviously has much better graphics but also a very different art style that's brighter and more cartoony. Common stages like Final Destination and Battlefield look completely different as well. In fact I think the only stage that looks and functions the same between both games is Dreamland, which is a legacy N64 stage. The roster is also very different, just look at CEO's Top 8 character spread for both games - the only characters that are in both are Fox and Shiek, both of whom function very differently between the two games anyway.

I just don't think it's fair that one Smash game has to be relegated to a bad time slot when they're both pulling their own weight independently as two of the most popular games at the event by far and aren't even similar enough to look redundant to a spectator IMO.

To us, those who know better about the finer details of both Smash games, sure. But to the average spectator who tunes in on Twitch to see what's going on, they'll just see two Smash games, hence my point about diversity. And even then, the Sunday line-up seems pretty locked-down in terms of long-term health. MKX will likely get swapped out for Injustice 2, GGXrd has stayed consistent for a while, & Tekken 7 may likely take UMvC3's place on the Sunday line-up if Mahvel's viewership this year doesn't hold up. That said, I do hope that Smash 4 gets a prime-time slot on Saturday, it deserves that much.

GeoNeo

I disagree.
Lost count of the amount of times MK fans on twitch would shit talk about marvel for being a 'dead' game..

😘 Marvel can never die. Huge ups to Marvel community for supporting the game they love.

I'm keen on taking some hot pokken single mothers out for steak & dinner while Tim plays Pokken. Hit me up.

Edit. If you team 🐶 that is a huge plus.

At this point, only MvC4 can replace UMvC3. The numbers for UMvC3 seem to be leveling out to a consistent range at EVO. So as long as Mahvel can maintain the viewership, it'll likely be a mainstay at EVO until we get MvC4 (whenever that happens, if at all). That said, it's still amazing how UMvC3 outlived USFIV, MK9, & likely MKX after this year (with Injustice 2 incoming).

Melee PogChamp

Less Entrants - MORE VIEWERS.

Kreygasm
While yes, Melee has fewer entrants than Smash 4, it's not behind Smash 4 by that much.

Marvel 4 2019 I believe..no I know the gods will make it happen.

I think that if they gave Smash 4 a spot on Sunday, it would probably be the first game in the morning. Or no later than the 2nd game. One thing FGC TO's have made pretty clear is that they won't do both Smash games back to back. If they did that would mean 6-7 consecutive hours of nothing but Smash.

Would Smash 4 fans be fine with a 8 or 10:30AM top 8?

It's a lot more likely now than it was a few months ago.
I mean, Marvel seems to be down for it. The problem is on Capcom's end, not just from a financial standpoint, but also from the standpoint of if they're willing to go along with Marvel's current wishes for their side of the roster to do it (which may piss off the FGC). Also, wouldn't Capcom USA be the ones doing the negotiations with Marvel Entertainment, since it's that side of Capcom that seems to be covering the fighting game side of things for the company (aside from development, of course)?

But if it is happening & coming out in 2019, it would make for a super-hype EVO 2017 announcement.

Is diversity why the 3D game isn't on Sunday?

Any person that really thought Marvel would be a dead game isn't very smart.
