I have Wii U Pro Controller for example, but I can't just use blue tooth or something to make it work, can I? Not going to buy any additional stuff.

of course you bloody well can! I only have a bluetooth dongle and my wii u pro controller is my default PC pad.

download wiinusoft from here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7um5M6gTxX-em45SXRXcUpQcm8/view

use the bluetooth hotfix from here: http://www.wiinupro.com/downloads/MS_BT_HotFix.zip?attredirects=0&d=1

sync your wii u pro controller (press the button, and sync on windows without a code). Load up wiinusoft. configure. boom - it's a 360 pad. Works flawlessly with no lag whatsoever.

Hmmm... I'll give it a go and see if I can get it working. This is all new stuff to me, the last controller I used on PC was back in late 90s.

Pretty sure you can, if not you can just connect it through USB.

This game is amazing. Congrats to the developer for making this fantastic experience.

no you can't.

the wii u pro controller only supplies power via usb. it does not transmit data. it is entirely bluetooth only.

it's really easy. just follow the instructions.
I downloaded the wiinupro and installed it. I replaced that nintroller.dll file in the wiinupro folder. I pressed the sync, but nothing happened. Tried opening wiinupro, but still nothing. So clearly I'm doing something wrong here.

have you installed the xbox 360 pad drivers? it aint gonna work unless thats installed - it needs to be recognised as a 360 pad.

edit: wait, are you just pressing sync and expecting it to work by itself? you need to go to the windows bluetooth panel and click on it after pressing sync, then continue without a code.

Sweet FX works really well to get a nice CRT filter. It needs a bit of configuration but it's worth it.

How? I can't get mine to work. Crashes every time. Ran the setup, chose DX9, it copies the files, but won't start..always a crash.

Any 240p screen captures? Have to set up my VGA to SCART to my Sony PVM and give this a whirl.

I just started playing. Good stuff so far and I'm amazed this is a fan made game. I took some photos of the game running at 240p on a CRT, perhaps the perfect way to play this game if you have the right setup.

Edit: Oh yes that's the stuff! Even more excited to try it now. :)

Uh, so I never saw anything last night on my issue, so here's photo evidence:

Basically, so long as I have the Gravity Suit on, Samus is completely invisible.

If I Screw Attack or go into Morph Ball, I can see myself thanks to the Particle effects, but otherwise, I can't see shit.

I'm having this issue also. Total showstopper.

Been poking around for a fix, but I haven't seen anything.

Didn't download XBox 360 drivers (I think it prompted me to do so) as I didn't think I'd need one for a Nintendo controller. I also turned on the bluetooth option on my PC and asked it to recognize new devices, but it didn't find anything. Guess I need first to download the drivers then.
Like I said, I'll see if I can get it to work as this stuff is very confusing for a newcomer.

My mistake. :)

Could have sworn I'd used it through USB, must have confused that with charging it while I used it on pc.

Aaaand done, 7h for 95%.
Whatever I missed isn't on my map so yeah I'm not backtracking the whole game again for 100% sadly, at least for now.

Amazing game all around, my only nit-picks would still be the high jump speed and the area before the last part kind of feel empty and rushed.

Jesus Christ, this game is so good.

Just got the
Ice Beam
, very nice touch when you
freeze an enemy underwater, then it floats and shatters as soon as it touches the ceiling.

If you're talking about the part with the Omega Metroids, that's how it was in the original, too.

If you unscrew the panel in the back of the Wii u pro controller and take out the battery and then connect your controller with USB it should work. I'm pretty sure I remember that working.

I've played every demo that came out when I started following this around eight years ago. Every time I play a new version, I am still impressed. I'm hoping someone can ROM-hack Super Metroid to have the same controls like this game, or remake Super Metroid using this game's engine.

I downloaded that just to play this. I'm close to getting the pixels right but they still seem to be off. Theres still a bit of stretch here and there that makes the text look bad and screws with the look of the game a bit. The pixel art for the game is running at 240x160 isn't it?

lets talk about this hopper minigame tho...

That was pretty annoying. Didn't know I could enter the area until I was so mad that I literally shot every wall and ceiling. Thought I'd need to bring the
Super Missile
to Samus as that thing as first.

Beat it :D. My time was somewhere between 4 and 5 hours (why doesn't it give you your time at the end!? D:) 77% items collected. Pretty good I'd say.

In the area behind the ship,
there's a thing blocking the path. How do I break it and go down? Tried Power Bomb, Missiles, Super Missile, Charge Ice Beam, Bomb and Screw Attack, and none worked. And I don't see a way to shinespark it, if there's even a way to Shinespark down.

EDIT:
This is going to be the ending escape path, isn't it...

Damn, the Omega is brutal. They block your way back to the save point and he keeps pushing me out of the room, so my super missiles go to waste.

Missiles break the shields. Shooting normally hurts the center.

You know, the scan logs tell you some useful info.

To do a shinespark you actually need to jump in place while flashing - simply flashing isn't spinesharking (and if you jump while moving, you'll jump normally and conserve the charge)! So to recap: run to full speed, press "down" to conserve the charge, move to where you want/need to be, then stand still and press A/cross/whatever your jump key is to shinespark. You have a slight delay just before Samus launches into the shinespark to input the direction you want to go, so horizontal/vertical, and diagonal should be possible though I didn't try it here yet.

And if it works anything like Fusion/ZM did, if you shinespark and hit a slope, you'll start running again, allowing for multi run/charge segments. This is generally only used during 100% collection, but you never know, there might be devious tricks still lying ahead! (Just tested it, can confirm it works, as does all of the above, along with this: you can shinespark as the morph ball, too!)

So basically.... this: http://gfycat.com/WaryFreeHomalocephale

EDIT: whoops, top of the page. Well, uh, I'm taking a break at about 2 hours in, and so far, this is everything I was hoping this would be. It's extremely faithful to the original (or my memory of it, but since I replayed it a couple of months ago, it's pretty fresh) and the additions feel completely in synch with what it was going for. I'm honestly surprised at the level of quality here.

Thank you, you're a gentleman and a scholar. It didn't even occur to me that Samus doesn't just do a short distance jump with the shinespark. I'll have to toy around with this some more and master it if I'm going to get to 100%

The scanlogs (did they have those in the original?) are actually really neat. I press pause the moment a scanlog updates and often it will give you tips on how to beat the boss in addition to cool info on stuff. Reminds me of a PokeDex.

Edit: If anyone else is having a problem with starting the game and tabbing out of the game, and its icon doesn't appear on the task bar and you can't get into the application, you could always open up the Task Manager, select the program and click "Switch to" and gets you back into the game. After that point the game should appear on the task bar and you can close the task manager and you can tab and back normally.

Yep.

Didnt like the game desing of the
CPU
boss, it has great attack patterns, but two MAJOR problems:
1. Theres no fucking save room near it, probably the hardest boss (becuase of the cheap attacks, more on that later) that you encounter up to that point, and the level desing in the area is first a super slow to switch on the super computer that is fun the first time (it activates the theme of the area, which is a catchy remix), but boring on repeats, and after that a "try to cheap you health" zone before entering the boss room without any save room near it. You would never find Super or Zero with that type of design. And you need to repeat this are every time you die, instead of there being a save room after activating the super computer. Not fun.

2.This game has another big problem Zero Mission, Fusion and Super didnt have, where enemies dont start their movement animations until you see them, even if their movement pattern would make them pass through your screen, and this boss feels super cheap because of that, becuase he never will try to move up to you (you need to move to him so he starts his movement animations around the screen), but he will throw projectlies from outside the screen boundaries. In the older games, bosses will only shoot projectiles to you if they were on screen, and bosses in bigger rooms that fly through the screen and dissapear, will never attack you until they appear on screen again (see Imago or Ridley in ZM). Would have been better if everytime he wanted to throw any kind of projectile, he would try to come into screen so you could see him and what pattern he was going to choose.

And after the first try is not really that hard because you know how to kill it (and the logs help you), but that "bug" in the movement animation of the enemies in this game, make this boss a chose instead afo a fun bullet hell enemy. Its like the dev knew that and, becuase he didnt know how to resolve the problem, he just made the boss giving you HIGH quantities of health so you dont die repeteadly. I would sinceresly prefer a harder (giving less health), but less cheap attacks boss (and that means not doing attacks outside of the screen boundaries) with a save room near it, than this.

Going to stop for today, apart from that, still an amazing game.

You mean rom hack super metroid to change the movement and controls of Samus so they are similar to Zero Mission? It would probably brake that game, Super Metroid is more slow and methodical than Zero Mission.

That's a wrap! 04:07 for 87% completion, I'll take it. Fantastic remake. Most design issues I could have stem from the original - the only other "addition" (or rather removal) I didn't care for was the shortcut to the endboss. I assume it was cut because it didn't make sense map wise? Also, after that level of detail and polish, the final boss death anim was strangely underwhelming :-D Other than those nitpicks, I have nothing but praise. 10/10, GOTY, whatever. It rocked!

Anyone knows how to get that missile expansion in the second area, that appears when you go down the right tube (that leads to the Hi Jump Boots IIRC)?

Yeah it looked kind of cheap, I didn't like a lot of the scaling and rotation done on the bigger sprites at all either, it looked terrible and out of place. All in all it's still a solid game and it definitely earned the Metroid in its title, I loved the pacing too, you never really have time to get bored of an area until you're headed off to the next.

I hope the main guy either does more Metroid stuff or his own original game, he's extremely talented.

I'd forgotten how much I hated Fusion's physics - I hate how Samus has absolutely no momentum whatsoever off a jump. I'm really impressed by this remake but I wish so much they'd gone with something closer to Super.

YES! Got the Super Missile Expansion in the vine area with a well timed shinespark! Got it on my first try too now that I know how the jumping mechanic works!

It's true, though. Try running into a jump and then go morph ball in mid-air. You immediately lose all horizontal movement and start falling - there's no conservation of momentum which is like the ultimate sin of a platforming physics engine as far as I'm concerned. It's like a toothache to my brain.

I agree Super is slightly too floaty (although in a way I always thought of it as Zebes have lower gravity than Earth), but it's still better than Fusion's dead air. As far as I'm concerned, the best physics in a 2D Metroid game is actually from a fan-game - Super Metroid Redesign, a Super Metroid hack. It keeps the speed of Fusion with the momentum of Super; I can't tell you how fantastic Samus feels in that game. Well worth playing.

I thought the ice beam was found in the first area with the 3 metroids? Or am I remembering wrong?

You remember right, but the rules have changed here: since weapons stack and Ice Beam is basically the Best, you get it last!

EDIT: COME ON, top of the page, AGAIN? ugh! Sorry about that! EDIT: here's something that's (I hope) useful to compensate:

(spoilered for those who don't want to see) It's the map I had by the end of the game, missing the top left portion of course since I didn't go back to save after the last boss/exploration section. It clearly doesn't have everything/all the items, but still, if it helps anyone, good!

You mean the rotation of the ship at the very start? Otherwise, I don't think I've seen anything in here that wasn't done that way or worse in Super, Fusion or ZM - if I didn't know it was a fan remake, I'd have thought it was an official Nintendo production for sure.
