You honestly expect me to trawl through this thread and quote every post I've seen that qualifies? Not gonna happen. No game, nor any internet discussion is worth that to me. But you knew that, thus are able to dismiss everything I say because I didn't go trawl through the entire thread to give 'data' and 'metrics'.
That didn't happen though.
Okay, I have the Steam version now. It was compiled at 3am this morning... they really were burning the midnight oil to get this out on PC.

Edit: the thread title was changed due to an incident earlier in the thread. I was there. It's a thing.
Do not sell them.
Seems like an awful lot of fuss over something that was never a selling point to the game. Did people really buy the game for the highly unlikely event they could possibly run into another person.
This right here is why we're having the discussion. Anybody blathering on about how this is a single playe focused game, multiplayer doesn't matter, etc etc is missing the point. Add to that the fact that the game is turning out to be a bit shallow after 10 or so hours and some kind of online interaction could totally redeem it. Here's hoping it's still possible and we just dot know details yet."possible, but unlikely"
Well obviously every aspect of the game has different meaningulness to every consumer. You may not care at all about seeing someone else, whereas someone else might buy the game and make it their mission to find another player and see what they look like.
The real controversy is over why Hello Games hasn't answered the question "can you see other people" since launch.
Please re-read the thread of conversation to which you're replying. You're accusing me of doing something I never did.
Fair enough. They should definitely let people know. That said, it felt like they stressed over and over again that wasn't the point or focus of the game. It was sold as a single player experience.
I've been reading the entire thread from the beginning.
So he never answered the question and went on to tweet about the pc issues huh? oh ok.
Do you actually know what you're doing when it comes to capturing packets and analyzing them and such? As in, do you have a background in this? I know the tools to do it are easy to obtain and anyone can do it... actually knowing what it all means is another story, though.
So he never answered the question and went on to tweet about the pc issues huh? oh ok.
must be because the mp issue was never an issue since its not there.
Okay, I am running the game live on PC now with packet capture. Same as PS4, absolutely no data is transmitted or received on foot. Rebuilding hyperdrive etc.
I do it for a living. My job title is Security Architect.
Buying it now on Steam. I will refund it if performance sucks (after packet capturing).
Wasn't an issue for who exactly? Speak for yourself. This thread is how many pages long? People were clearly looking for clarification.
Wow thread title change??!!? Lol! Yup, and I agree. People just want to play together.
then join them on a couch and take turns with the controller
you know im kidding, right? i have been posting about this as well looking to see what exactly is the element of MP that he spoke off on all those interviews.
Just making a joke about him not caring about anything else but issues... clearly MP not being there being a non existent issue. All pun intended on the non existent side of things.
ah ok sorry for being so snarky. The amount of defenders that i've seen before in regards to this makes it hard to tell who's being serious and whos joking.
Yeah, I very much expect you to do that if you make sweeping accusations in order to label a discussion as childish whining and call people "fucking arseholes".You honestly expect me to trawl through this thread and quote every post I've seen that qualifies? People are taking into consideration that if the 'multiplayer' (whatever that means to NMS) is broken in some way, or has been stealth disabled in order to go live after late patch work, then there are going to be no packets to sniff, right?

You using Wireshark?

Yes. I also have a Palo-Alto firewall, which does hardware capture and SSL MiTM.
Of course, it is possible they disabled all multiplayer or some such. I'm doing some quick reversing of how the thing hangs together now on PC, it looks very similar to PS4. Going to the Options menu also pauses time and the game world on PC, by the way.
If it is taken into consideration, then say it.
Say that the feature is broken. Say that the feature will be in a future patch instead of keeping silent. Why must we have silence when that's all it takes?
Why has Hello Games / Sean not mentioned or is stealth disabling it? That's kinda suspicious and either way, their integrity is compromised.
That's cool. I'm not trying to be an ass; I'm legitimately interested to hear what you find.Of course, it is possible they disabled all multiplayer or some such. I've no interest in getting into that debate. FWIW I agree with you.If it is taken into consideration, then say it.

I think launch may have just overstretched them (massively), to be honest. The NMS.exe file was compiled in the early hours of this morning, on the hostname of a desktop PC. It runs at barely 20fps on my PC (which is beefy, with a GTX 970 graphics card). It also crashed once already.
They're a small bunch of guys and I'm willing to give 'em the benefit of the doubt overall. 12 people have AAA number of eyes on 'em. I'd be terrified. This is what over stretched and over promising feels like.
I'm pretty baffled they didn't do a closed beta for a few thousand people before launch. Seems like this is exactly the kind of game you want that for to sort out all issues.I understand your point gossi but let's take a look before this PC launch.
Even if they didn't have time for this to compile the code in the PC launch, he still had time to tweet a few times. Those tweets were rather unclear about the feature. It could have been simple like I stated. All it would have taken is one tweet instead of the 6 vague ones.
But I agree, they're probably running on overtime and high on caffeine trying to fix issues. All I want to know is whether the feature is in and why they omitted the issue in their tweets when they did have time as he clearly had time to send out a few tweets these few days.
I will give them the benefit of the doubt, but my patience is starting to wane as the pc launch will delay the answer.

My job title is Security Architect.
Need to see some receipts IMO. Got any pictures of buildings you've designed?
What's up with the title change lol did I miss something
imo the threat of leaks would have killed hype. Look at the hype deflation just these last few days.
