Persona 5 PS4/PS3 comparison screens

I see Arcana and ranks, which kills my final worries I had about the game and the changes to the social links. Seems like the system is pretty intact, which is a godsend to me.

YouTube videos looks 30fps native re-encoded at 60fps.

So every unique frame is followed by a copy:

They probably did this to have a higher bitrate video.

Higher bitrate on YT video is an obvious benefit, but parts of the game could be animated with different timings. Just look at Guilty Gear Xrd's animation.

I think that intro gameplay video was 30 though, iirc so idk what the final thing is.

PS3 version looks really good! That's great to know. A lot of people were worried it wouldn't be so good because of the possible compromises. I knew it was the base version, but it's good to have evidence.

Getting this on PS4 for that sweet resolution bump. Sucks that it's not 60fps, but oh well. GOTY either way.

GOTY for two years, because Atlus is evil and will make us suffer until 2017.

Both versions running at 60fps makes both versions quite valid. Those PS3 screens are perfectly fine if you are still running that hardware.

Such a strong art style really helps the PS3 version remain relevant because it looks great. Getting ps4 but wouldn't hesitate to recommend the PS3 version if a person asked about it.

I can understand that for some vfx (like this one, running at 15fps), but not for the whole combat phase. Literally every frame gets repeated.

I'm 99% it's running at 30fps and the videos are re-encoded at 60fps for better image quality.

Of course there's always the chance the game really is 60fps and they fucked up when capturing the footage, but seems strange.

Looking good (enough) on PS3. I'm feeling better and better about waiting longer on a PS4 after the underwhelming Pro announcement. Time to take one last ride on this system before its put out to pasture.

America and Europe, and physical, too. The only thing is that there's no PS3 version of the special edition.

It's great they didn't drop the PS3 version somewhere along the game's lengthy development and it's even better that they bring the PS3 version over to the west.

Don't sweat it, it happens to all of us at some point.

What, English dubs need to die? A bit harsh, don't you think?

No, dubs don't need to die. Delaying releases BECAUSE of the dubs is what needs to die. Localize the game and release it ASAP with cost adjustment to reflect lack of dub. Then do the dub and release it as DLC whenever it's done for those who want it.
Why does everybody have to wait because of a feature only some want? Explain to me how that makes any sense at all?

I think he's referring to the whining about the dub taking a long time.

Quite the contrary. It really can't be called whining when the people "whining" are being forced to wait for an optional feature only a fraction of the eventual buyers actually want.

I assume dub fans would have no problem with the approach I mentioned above if it cost them the same in the end, correct?

Altus seriously needs an award on title screens . I swear they got some fantastic ones for the big titles .

Nocturne back in the day was fantastic too

People who want the game dubbed are hardly a "fraction" of buyers, they're most likely the overwhelming majority.

I'd say the overwhelming majority don't care if it does or doesn't have a dub but these things are always anecdotal or subjective.

Game is looking absolutely amazing, bring on February.

If you completely ignore Europe and South America, I suppose you'd be right. Outside of English speaking countries, most really don't give a crap and if my personal experience living in the UK is anything to go by, the overwhelming majority you're speaking of is actually completely indifferent.
People who insist on having games dubbed are not the overwhelming majority, if you ask me.

But I suppose it's easy to find out if someone ever implements the method I suggested one day since you could just check the percentage of players that would buy said dub DLC.

I'd say the overwhelming majority don't care if it does or doesn't have a dub but these things are always anecdotal or subjective.

Precisely.
And yes, of course this entire argument is completely hypothetical because there is no substantiated data to back up either claim.

Good. I thought this would be the case, given the development history, but was getting a bit anxious if I'd be losing anything much playing on PS3. I didn't really want to get a PS4 to play a game I could already play, but was starting to worry I'd get anxious about playing a 'subpar port' and fold.

As to sub/dub, I'd prefer just a sub, tbh. But it's not a big deal.

Odds are, a good chunk of the localization time for games like Persona 5 may be spent translating the game & modifying the menus/UI to fit the English language. In the case of Persona 5, a good chunk of the text in-game is in English already (or at least major stuff like the start menu, some of the UI, etc.). But that still leaves a shit-ton of Japanese to translate. So while yes, doing the English voice recordings is time-consuming, one could argue that the text translation & game modification for said language can take just as long to do, if not longer.

As for the cost adjustment, if I recall correctly, licensing the Japanese voice acting also costs money.

The amount of time the dub is adding to the localization is negligible compared to the time it takes to actually translate the thing. And dubbed games are easier to sell to retailers.

Oh man if 60fps is confirmed to be true it would be an awesome bonus but I'm still bummed out about no Japanese audio, especially after I watched the OVA and loved the voices :(

no. I don't know how or why you would do that though.

If cross buy was an option digitally I'd appreciate such a feature. As is, people willing to buy the game twice are such a ridiculously small minority that wasting dev time on a feature only they would benefit from is completely pointless, yes.

Oh man this again.

I probably need to dig the posts up again. But we've had translation companies say right here on gaf that not having a English dub is sales suicide. The people who are going to play this in English (outside of Japan) far, far outweigh those who will play it in Japanese.

The dub needs to be there day 1 on the disc for a game the scale of persona.

It looks gorgeous. I don't see how it could look better on PS4. It's not going for a realistic look and 60fps is awesome (though I don't feel needed, but I'll take it ofc)
