Android |OT7| Now With a Whole New Messaging System

Well, there it is...
Samsung has begun replacing the Galaxy Note7 with a battery manufacturing standard. To help users easily understand if they have a new device and use their new Galaxy Note7 with confidence, the company has introduced a Green battery icon that has been included in three specific software changes.

The new green battery icon will be visible on: 1) the Status Bar; 2) the Always On Display screen; and 3) the Power Off prompt screen, which can be accessed by long-pressing the power key.

It might have a chance in the US, but outside of it I can't see anyone jumping on it or rather leaving the established platforms, just because Google made the same thing they're already using. I really don't think the Google brand has any pull in that regard.

E: And citing privacy concerns as a reason to leave WhatsApp for a Google service is always funny.

$400 for the Z Play would have been ok if it had a 652.
maybe throw in one or 2 of the expensive moto mods too.

Like im still not entirely sure what's the point of these mods, or even the ones for G5.

In the end its not that different from phone cases, in which theres been ones with gimmicks throughout the years.

Except its proprietary stuff that no one is gonna bother making or supporting.

The only mods that make sense are the battery packs, but then again they could have just made the phone thicker with a larger internal battery.

For people who hate Hangouts and are waiting for Allo can you explain to me why you hate Hangouts? I still don't understand the need to replace it. I've been using it every day on phone my phone and desktop and don't understand the hate it gets.

^Basically their way of saying please don't ban all Note 7s on airplanes.

indeed. they should leave it the same.

i'd rather prefer to have to tell a smug flight attendant where they can put their free tiny bag of pretzels and have a clean battery icon than have than deal with the eyesore of a gaudy green one that harkens back to the days of TouchWiz on FroYo.

I'm just hoping the Pixel XL is close to the battery life/size of the current 6P. I assume the 821 will be more power efficient and less heat generating than the 810 correct?

The Pixel XL has the same size battery as the 6P with a smaller screen and more efficient processor. So, it should, in theory, outperform the 6P's battery life, which isn't exactly a high bar to hit.

Oh lord. So Droid Life posted on Twitter that supposedly the Pixel is going to be carrier exclusive to Verizon and David Ruddock (Android Police) posted that they got the same information. Sorry I don't know how to embed tweets on GAF or I would post them here. I think early rumors suggested Verizon was getting an exclusive version with branding so this might hold true.

So I snagged a 32gb Pixel C at a half price books for $260 which I found kind of ironic since it's pretty close to half price. This thing appeared to be barely have been used, no scratches, no scuffs. I immediately installed Nougat on it and I love this thing. It's exactly what I wanted in a tablet. Did anyone bother to get the google keyboard with it or is it a waste?

e: The Verizon rumor makes sense since we've never heard about any other carrier bringing the phone on. It sucks but oh well.

It's amazing how every rumor we hear about the pixel turns out to be worse than the previous one

Verizon exclusive basically confirms the premium pricing, too, since there's zero chance the Play Store would undercut Verizon.

Edit: Holy fuck, David is saying that the regular (not the XL) Pixel will start at $649 for 32GB. DOA.

Wait... so pixel is going toe to toe with iphone pricing?

well... good luck.

Makes no sense. So there would be no Nexus/Pixel/Google phone unless you're on Verizon?!

I'm on Verizon, I'm hoping to get a Pixel to replace my stuttery N6, and I owned a VZW Galaxy Nexus, but even I think that would be a bad, bad idea.

Nexus 5 was way cheaper on google store than at the carriers. Also google may have plans to subsidize the phone to new Fi customers like they do with the 5x.

No. This is no different than last year except you can now walk into Verizon in addition to ordering it on project fi and google's store.

Yup. I assume Verizon will provide a marketing push to the phones and financing options, but this is nuts.

Nexus 5 was way cheaper on google store than carriers sites.

Verizon did not carry the Nexus 5. T-Mobile was OK with the higher price, because they were selling contracts. This would never fly with Verizon, who will mandate price parity.

David also just tweeted that Google is banking on financing options to let them price higher.

It will still be available on the Play Store for compatibility with any carrier they'd just have carrier exclusivity with Verizon when it comes to dealing with carriers. That's still kind of bad since something like 60% of smartphone customers strictly buy their phones from the carrier stores.

That is straight up iphone pricing. If Google is thinking people will pay these prices just because financing and shiny new things, they are VERY wrong. If anything, this makes people more likely to buy a used 6p/5x off swappa or places like that.

I just learned it's possible to force any app to work split SCREEN Nougat. There's a setting in developer options called "Force activities to be resizable" . After rebooting the phone, you should be able to do multi window with apps that block it like instagram or Netflix

Expensive phone with brand no one has ever heard of + WOAT carrier Verizon sounds like a winning combination. Google knows how to kill a phone

Ah, that makes more sense.

RIP Pixel Phone 2016 - 2016.

Overpriced phone? Check.
Exclusive to Verizon (meaning probably logos all over it)? Check.

There has to be more to the story because it doesn't make sense for Google to make those decisions based on the current Android marketplace. That definitely seems like 2 steps backwards for them. Unless they really think Google branding is going to instantly get them success, which I hope not as they are about to be very disappointed.

Can't wait to buy a Pixel XL for $300 next fall, because that's how bad this phone will flop. The market will push it down to its true price eventually.

how well do google premium products do anyways?

Like was the pixel tablet and chromebooks a success?

Pixel C was highly regarded iirc but I don't remember if it was selling well. No idea about the chromebook pixel but the price was always way too high to entice me and I imagine I'm not alone in that.

So that statement on the site seems to imply that Google has to offer financing direct right? It doesn't make sense otherwise. I don't know many people with the cash on hand to drop a grand on a 128gb Pixel XL. I know people who would finance it, but that's more than an s7 edge, which is absolutely insane.
