Man, I personally hope it's an all new bunch.

Between Revolver and Redemption, the main characters have very similar physical traits, so I expect them to revisit that 'archetype', but Marston's story is done and there are other tales to tell in that world.

You could have a new character from Dutch's gang and tell a new story. Marston could be a support character.

That's true, yeah. Sadly the first game probably exploited that kind of setting too well for them not to go the Sam Peckinpah route in a sequel, I suppose, regardless of GTA's multiplayer being ridiculously successful.

Assuming John is front and center, we then have (going to the right) Bill, Javier and perhaps the Native Indian.

Going from John to the left, I think we may have Abigail (the 2nd from the left) and one of those we can assume is gonna be Dutch. as for the remaining member, who knows.

Of course, given these are silhouettes I can be wrong in judgement.

On one hand, it'd be really fucking cool to get a diverse playable cast that covers all or most of the wild west denizens.

On the other, I'm really not sure how Rockstar would handled that narratively, personally considering I didn't really care for GTA V's 3 man story. Although, I do think a 3 person story would work better in a western setting, anything more is in it has me really nervous but also excited.

I don't think so. After Fallout 4 came out, T2 was really impressed how short the time period was between announcement and release (6 months or so) and how Bethesda managed this.
So I think, It's very likely it would launch this spring/summer.

I'm hoping for a single protagonist (or, at least one at a time). I don't care who it is. It's just that the three-character mechanic of GTA V felt really half-baked, especially with all the character stats and stuff. A frame narrative where you cycle through characters would be cool but it would interfere with the sandboxy elements.
