Yeah, spoiler remarks are correct. I did that and got the alt boss and the take no damage and fully evolve in Area X trophies. Good times.

All right! I shoved 2 DS4 in my pajama pockets and went to Area 4 in VR. The sensation is pretty awesome! When I got the the boss, they kicked in really hard and I was so immersed. I have to get another controller from upstairs to have 3 of them vibrate and check out how that is.

If you have any Move controllers you can add those too. They don't rumble as much as the DS4 though.

I liked Child of Eden for the music and the atmosphere, and Area X definitely mixes the two in a fantastic way. I'd be happy to play a Child of Eden sequel if it means more Genki Rockets, though the music for Area X seems to be a new artist from what I gathered from the physical copy thread.

Looks like it's by Hydelic. Can't find any English information on them.

Area 3 100% Shot Down is elluding me at the moment. Played about 15 times now and the highest I can get is 99.44%. I always remember that Area being a git back on PS2, some of the enemies move incredibly fast.

I am not sure whether the bunch of cubes that get thrown at you before you enter the boss count towards shotdown, and actually anything inside he boss? All the flying enemies when you are taking out the red banks, for example, and the red flying arrows around the core. I've never really worked out if boss items count as shotdown, as the boss changes depending on your shotdown, so I am guessing its the the stuff in the Area before you enter it.

Anyone know for sure?

Holy shit, just finished this in VR and it's a near religious experience. You really are inside the insanity, it feels like this game was always made for VR. Head aiming is phenomenal, and the whole immersion is just crazy. Wow. Wow.

got myself a PSVR and this and thumper are the best things ever on it.

finished the game and AreaX in 1 sitting and gotta say, coming out of VR and looking at AreaX on the tv, its completely not the same. I think Rez should be the demo showcase for PSVR if sony knows what's up. It's so deeply seductive and hypnotic.

yeah, it really is. Had people over and everyone was like "wow this is incredible"

I feel like the camera keeps re-centering every few sub stages and it is driving me crazy. Holding Options doesn't seem to center the camera in this either.

You don't need the pre-boss rolling cubes or anything during the boss.

Area X is very interesting.
Rez Infinite as a whole has really made me want to go back and play more Child of Eden. I played quite a lot of that game, but it wasn't really like I played it every other month or so for a decade+ like the other game. I keep remembering how cool that game is. Luckily my 360 is still plugged in so I'll get to that tomorrow.

The new content is pretty cool. I really like the freeroam mechanic, but I think it does influence the aesthetic in ways that make it incompatible with the originals. The particle orgy is beautiful but also key to the new range of motion. Everything must be translucent and penetrable.

One super cool think I noticed about the particle clouds is that when you are boosting or reversing they form lines, so when in motion you do have some semblance of a vanishing point. No matter where you're headed in dimensional space you'll get a hint of that tube effect.

It feels clumsy without a headset though. I sure do want one, and it was surreal to see the "plug in VR headset to playstation" screen. Unfortunately for me I'm going VR on PC, so...
hopefully this comes to PC.

I still haven't even completed Area X. I've only got to make a few attempts at it. Just haven't had the time.

Just finished Area 5 and then Area X (in VR).

What a game. I can't wait to show off Area X to my wife and dad when he visits.

Just wow!

Yeah, if there's one thing this game needs, it's the hold-Options-to-recenter shortcut. I was about to twist my head off by the end of Area X.

You got the drift issue. Try sitting closer to the camera is what people have told me.

Hopefully Enhance Games are taking feedback to make improvements to VR/controls and presentation for any upcoming patches, including the PS4 Pro patch.

I'd really like a photo mode that removes the HUD completely, including the aiming reticule and adds colouring/filter options.

The red contour effect on the back of Fourth Form looks too low res for something that hangs around in the foreground, it's a nasty blemish on many pictures I've taken.

I have a strange issue with this that I've not experienced in any other PSVR title. It seems my eyes don't line up properly, it looks like I have my eyes crossed when I try to play. Setting the IPD doesn't make a difference either. I don't understand why no other titles give me the same issue. Literally every other game I tried (all of the demo disc, playroom) I cannot reproduce this problem unless I purposefully cross my eyes.

Any ideas? It's a shame because this was my system seller (fourth time I've bought Rez).

Just don't feel this game. Never played the original, so never had the love the first time around.

Even in VR, I'm just not 'getting' it.

What am I missing? Am I playing it wrong?

If I'm correct, it's
shooting the blue mech and destroying it
because
the blue mech never really seems to shoot you, but shoots the orange mech. If you're shooting the blue mech, you're doing friendly fire.

Whether you kill the blue or red walkers first. I can confirm.

Thnak you gents. Got the alt boss last night and finished off the last few remaining trophies I needed from Area X.

Here's a video showing my play through. Ended up with a 96% shot down ratio which got me the last two trophies for Area X.

on the contrary, i'd never seen it in such detail before and it reminded me of this:

so i'm cool with it

The intended effect is fine. The quality of it just isn't consistent with this:

While many of the environment textures also haven't been upgraded to that standard, usually they whizz pass so fast you don't notice. This can't be said of the player-character which sways gently relative to the camera.

It's great to see REZ getting so much love again :) Would be my only reason to buy a PSVR at the moment. I hope they port Child of Eden one day, the Passion level (stage 4) would be really something. Maybe Rez is overall better but Child of Eden got some nice moments, like the end of Evolution stage and the second half of Passion (the overall concept of that level is incredible).

You are not alone, I came to post this exact thing. Don't get me wrong, The visuals are awesome to experience in VR, especially Area X but the game play seems shallow. All you do is hold X and release X constantly. There doesn't seem to be any nuance or extra layers to it. There aren't different strategies for different enemies, or there isn't a reason to use the music/sound for any particular reason. There is no skill to what I was doing. Even in Area X, you just fly around shooting the same things over and over and I don't really know why. I haven't tried the score attack so maybe that is where I fall in love? Maybe I learn that there is a multiplier system and/or some actual technique to what I am doing that will add interest for me.

At this point, this is the only PSVR game that I have played so far where I had buyers remorse. (I own RIGS, Eve, UD:RoB, Playroom VR, Tumble VR, Thumper,)

I would like to be educated if I am doing it wrong here because I feel like I am haha

Rez is primarily an audio-visual experience. If what it's offering isn't connecting with you, no worries; there are plenty of popular games that don't connect with me at all, and Rez has always been somewhat niche anyway.

If you're not playing with headphones injecting the music directly into your brain, you're doing it wrong.

I went ahead and cleaned them up to proper transparent pngs instead of gifs.

Thanks! I've gone ahead and updated the OP headers with these. :)

Exciting news for the thread - I have a digital code for Rez Infinite to give away for FREE! (Unfortunately the code is for US accounts only, apologies)

Now, I'm not a big fan of the 'First come, first served' form of giveaway, so I thought we'd try something a bit different. Every person who makes a post in this thread with 'Rez Code' in your post title in the next day I will consider an entry into the competition (one entry per person). I'll announce the winner in this thread at about 2pm BST on the 19th October. PLEASE NO EMPTY POSTS OR 'ME PLEASE' ENTRIES, THESE WON'T BE CONSIDERED AS THEY'LL CLOG THE THREAD.

If you write a more thoughtful post about why you deserve the Rez code or why you're a Rez fan then this may have an effect on the decision ;) - but mostly I'd also just love to see this thread become a bit of a Rez shrine of people talking about why they love the game!

Good luck to all entrants!

So, does the Area X boss have 2 music tracks?

I found this video with music only (no sound effects , so good video if you want to listen to X's music).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LfTyHxY4raU

Futurevoid video has another music for the boss (more upbeat).

EDIT: I take that is what considered the Alternate boss? Same boss but different music.

Gotta say I like the first track much more. Both are good but second is a tad... comercial? First one seems to have better production values and is more closer to my tastes (melodic progressive house and trancey vibes). Would love a full Original Mix.

EDIT 2:

Found a higher quality rip of the music, it only has the alternate boss track though.

bumping this because I just bought rez yesterday and was blown away. Only played the first two areas but the game is seriously a crazy experience. Hope more people get a chance to experience this in VR.

I hope the Rez patch for PS4 Pro comes out shortly after the release of the console. Area X is mindblowing but you can notice the hit in resolution compared to the standard game.

I just hope things like Leaderboards and Visual Effects are added in a patch (hopefully before the physical version get here!)

Its one thing i enjoyed the most in Rez HD, getting to top 200 was awesome!
