If this is a prequel how would having a female in the gang make sense? Unless Rockstar retcons their own story to shoehorn one in? Unless I missed something... was there a female member of the gang?
Of course this is assuming from the picture this may be story before John is you know...

Abigail (John's wife) was a member of the gang.

Of course, she was also like a young prostitute, so uh, that might be hard to integrate into the game.

Though it's clear in RDR we're hardly meeting the entire gang (especially since there's 7 people in the image and we only met 5) so there really isn't much story to retcon given we never got the full picture anyway.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
I really don´t think the protagonist is in that picture.

I think the middle guy (maybe John Marston) is one of 3 protagonists we can play as. Similar to GTA V's character switching system.

Onwards to the historical accuracy discussions! The "Wild West" idea is probably the most historically inaccurate and exaggerated period in US history. Life aint a John Wayne flick

Except Bass Reeves'.

Considering that there's no way they don't try and replicate GTA Online's business model, as that makes so much money. I'm wondering what they are going to do, to make people want to part with their real money for Rockstar bucks? GTA was pretty easy to implement as you can buy cars, bikes, boats, planes and a ton of other stuff and it all makes sense in a modern setting, but a western setting won't really have that going for it, will it just be crap like different colored saddles for your horses.

this political correctness is now in the game industry?? LOL, please, stop this. This is about American Old west, Wild West, where the society was dominated by man. Of course you will see more male cowboys then cowgirls.

For god's sake, STOP PLEASE>

It's not political correctness at all. It's more ignorance to how the market is skewed and what Rockstar will be aiming for. I mean every dev wants maximum sales but when you spend what they do on development you don't just want silly sales, you need them.

See what I wrote on the last page. It's sadly wishful thinking to think they can just do a female cast and sell what they need to sell.

It's nothing to do with realism around male and female cowboys, it's about hard sales to young men that need to reach 6~10 million to make a profit.

I don't know what's funnier/more sad: The people complaining about people wanting diversity, or people acting like women haven't been half of the population since forever.

I guess with the way history and entertainment have conveniently forgotten an ungodly amount of female and minority representation beyond whores/slaves, I can't be too mad.

Why are everyone so sure that a PC version is coming?
Most GTAs came out to PC eventually so it was a no brainer to know a PC version is coming then.
But now? Seems unlikley to me. RDR never came out on PC.

And it's called Redemption 2 because it's probably a prequel to Redemption. Plus it will sell more that way :p

A female character would probably be a bit odd 'historically' but iirc an actual large amount of cowboys / outlaws were black, so in [current year] and with 7 characters it is legitimately surprising that there isn't one, assuming those are 7 protagonists or whatever.

Excited!

Hopefully we get to know more about a possible PC version. I would definitly play it on PS4 but PC would be preferable choice.

Why are some of you acting like there's some crazy multiplayer focus here?
The game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.

This is what it says. Read it. Learn to read. Please read.

Oh, I thought this was going to be fictional story but are you saying this going based on true events?

i like my realistic video games to be realistic as possible, including story.

So how would you do health/damage in this game?

Because lol @ waiting 5 seconds for bullet wounds to magically disappear or popping a pill to recover all your health. And all those auto-aimed headshots. Realistic game.

a) no it wasn't
b) it was also full of black cowboys and mexican cowboys.

The wild west demographic was not the same as the spaghetti western demographic.

I'm fucking thrilled for it. Been waiting for this announcement for a long while.

good.

Releases just before Scorpio, developed for PS4 and Xbone primarily, PS4 Pro support minimal.

Online barely functional at release, comes out two weeks later though and get's a pass by every reviewer because it's a rockstar game.

2019, 4k ports of the original game for PS4 Pro Xbox Scorpio + PC release.

Online to be held back by current gen consoles in player count and world details, microtransactions galore, horse insurance etc.

God I forgot all about that...
Yeah that would actually be really hard to implement without catching some heat.

Amazing.

Not as enthused about the "New online experience!" but whatever.

Also, regarding posts about "Where's the female character," or what have you, the initial promo material for Red Dead Redemption had no mention of any female characters either, and then the game gave us one of the best female characters of any game in Bonnie McFarland, so hold onto your knapsacks. The 7 characters in the promo poster may not be the playable characters.

They choose the worst name possible.
It is going to be a sequel, isn't it?

Gonna be hard to do that as a direct sequel because one of the guys in that shot looks to be Bill Williamson, who is dead at the end of RDR.

I dunno, I can't imagine them not doing it. it was kind of a different time when RDR came out and didn't have a PC version. The PC market has expanded hugely and their last game sold very well on the platform.

Wrong about commas, wrong about everything
Ha, no PC version again? That's just cruel R*
Well, guess I don't have to be excited for this game, not that I was to begin with
