Details on Joy-Con controllers/Pro Controller for Nintendo Switch

Which is smaller; the Mini Famicom controllers or the Joy-Con?

Seeing how the Nintendo Switch Pro controller hardly looks different to the last decade of Pro controllers (from the face they all have four buttons, D-pad, two analogue, some misc buttons) I hope they allow the versions of it I already own actually work as the software sure isn't

Still...I know many people nagged the Wii U being "too complicated" with how one game could use the following input modes:
-Nintendo Gamecube controller via US Adapter
-Nintendo Wii Remote
-Nintendo Wii Remote & Nunchuck
-Classic Controller (connected to Nintendo Wii Remote)
-GamePad
-Wii U Pro Controller
-Nintendo 3DS (for just $1 LOL)
It also had an 8 player mode. Imagine if you had to buy 7 Wii U Pro controllers...

Please tell me they use internal rechargeable batteries and not imbecile AAs or AAAs
How are AA and AAA imbecile exactly? They are easily replaced and have good rechargable versions these days unlike these internal batteries which to replace can sometimes involve taking apart the whole thing including soldering.

Really confused how local play's gonna work like its shown in the trailer.

How can a game based around 12 buttons & two sticks suddenly work with half?

This looks totally like a prototype. Look at the shitty plastic marks and rough buttons.
Slightly better shot of it here...

JoyCon has the four triggers in the ideal location, unlike Vita which doesn't have the additional two, or New 3DS, which has them offset.

I'm hoping each half is also a motion controller, but looks like maybe not.

Still reason to cart out a Wii or Wii U for local multiplayer, then.

I was just getting used to having both analog sticks above the dpad and buttons. I guess that's one less muscle memory thing to worry about.

I wonder if they'll stick with using A as the confirm button.

Love the branding. Switch Pro Controller looks fantastic as well.

This is like a natural evolution of the Wii U concept. Nintendo has transcended the traditional console realm and the handheld realm, and really is offering something unique.

This reveal could not have gone any better.

So pretty much I'll use the Pro all the time unless I'm mobile somewhere that I can't use the kickstand and have to hold the screen with the detachable ones.

How many local multiplayer games can you name that use 12 buttons and two sticks for crucially important functions?

I mean, yeah, splitscreen-dependant multiplayer like FPS are out (and only if we're talking exclusively using the Joy-Cons). There's still dozens of games that'll have no problem functioning with 4 buttons and a stick.

The pro controller looks good and I like the design of the joy cons, but I wonder about the grip accessory. It looks a little big. The triggers and overall thinness of the Switch and detachable controls looks great. Very slick and modern, like a much improved gamepad.

I don't like what they did with the D-pad, though I understand why they did it (to make that detachable part's buttons have physical parity with the other half's). I am really glad that they came to their senses with regards to stick placement, though I have to wonder if that wasn't done solely for the same reasons as the D-pad split.

Is that an air vent?

I doubt it; this thing does use ARM, remember.

I wouldn't have a problem if it was though. My Macbook Air has a fan (I know, it's a laptop, but the 11-inch model feels tablet sized) and I can rarely tell (except in instances where I make it work REALLY hard).

Yeah it does. There have been numerous controllers without symmetrical sticks. It's nothing new and nothing weird unless you've only used Sony controllers before

I think he means the analog stick DIRECTLY below the buttons.

Most asymmetrical controllers are still offset. The stick and buttons in line may be an issue.

3 things

*Are motion controls properly confirmed? I know that the Emily specs leak said it had them, and Splatoon being confirmed also helps, but I need something more concrete.
*Still worried about the split local controls. It does not look comfortable to hold and lacks buttons. Mainly shoulder buttons, which is kind of worrying.
*No Scroll Wheel shoulder buttons is really disappointing. Main thing I was hoping for since they could've been legit game changers.

it's stupid to have to replace them manually, and have to manage enough rechargeable batteries for all your controllers

meanwhile in the real world, my PS3 controller batteries are still going strong so I am ok with never being able to replace them damn things

I sincerely pray that I don't need that hideous setup and that I can just play wii style when at home.

The guy on the plane used the two detachable parts standalone, so i guess you can

If that thing is as comfortable as the wavebird, though...

Problem is we never see that when the unit is docked. Hopefully we get confirmation soon.

If I'm likely to take the portable around with me a lot, can I just leave the controllers attached when docked so I can quickly grab and go? Then I'd just buy a pro controller for playing at home.
