Batman: Return to Arkham announced (AA AC Demaster), UE4, Virtuos (of FFX fame)

I hit "Check for update" before I booted the game and it said I had the latest version... Whether there's a US only patch that isn't out anywhere else until Friday I have no idea.

Each game has a pretty large patch. Around 6 GB for Asylum and 7 GB for City.

Who knows how well it improves things though.

I'll check now, but it definitely said there was no update to download before I booted the game. Plus, it usually auto-downloads any patches with digital titles ad new disc installs on PS4 now.

Edit: Yup, that stream was done running v1.01 - The launch day patch included

There are instances where it looks worse than the original which I'm sure will be cherry picked to death, but generally it looks like a significant improvement (if technical issues can be ironed out).

Also original Jim Gordon looks fucking terrifying, so making him no longer look like a roided up sunbed addict is an improvement in my book - though perhaps taking more artistic liberties than they should.

I guess they are done with it? But for goodness sake at least release a patch that smooths out the framerate. Even at 30, there is no reason the game should be stuttering at all. I really don't remember it stuttering this bad on PS3.

Here's a PS3 vs PS4 comparison. Looks better in some parts. Worse in others:

This is beyond fucked.

I had to do a double-take to make sure the PS3 and PS4 labels weren't switched by accident or something. Shadows are completely ruined in the remaster.

And then the actual gameplay starts and it's the exact opposite.

What the hell kind of remaster is this?

Really no way to know that just yet.

Really hope not. Kind of afraid to know what AA would run like without the patch. Sure there is 0 tearing, but the stuttering is driving me mad.

I thought they did a great job with FF X HD aside a few faces, but so far I'm not happy with AA on PS4. Have not tried City yet.

A crappy one.

But it will still sell, just like the Bioshock remaster did.

just tried out Arkham City to see how it looks and it feels better than AA to me. I wonder if it's running at an unlocked frame rate? The cat woman intro felt higher than 30 fps

Does it stutter like AA does? I notice its not just me, I saw it in the IGN review video and the gaffer that posted his gameplay.

Heartbreaking. The Bioshock remaster being half-assed, abandoned garbage is infinitely depressing. Sorry the Arkham games had to suffer the same fate. What a waste to push shit versions of these games out. Everyone involved should be ashamed.

Isn't the stuff at the beginning of the video pre-rendered PS3? If so that's why the shadow detail is better.

I want to play Arkham Asylum eventually, but looking at the comparisons, I'm not sure if the original or the remaster is the definitive version...

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
Why are people buying these awful rushed out remasters?
Probably never played them, or one of them?
Fans of the series?
Want to play it again but no longer have the games or the original platform?
They just want them?

A more worthwhile comparison would be the original PC versions and the new remaster.

A version on the new consoles should be at least on par with a mid range PC from 2009.

If you have a PC, then steam is probably still the definitive version followed by 360 imo

Ah, good to know. Are there any major differences between the 360 version and the Steam version?

I agree! I like remasters but the bioshock collection and now arkham got handled like shit. Do it right or just dont do it!! Super depressing that two of my favs ips of the last gen got mishandled like this! What could have been wonderful gifts for the fans turned out garbage!

There is so much that's disappointing about this, but I just cannot get over how horrible Bats' new face looks. How in the world could they have thought this was an improvement?

I replayed the games on PS3 in July and the frame rate was bad, especially in City while flying around. That's the main thing they should've fixed because it affects gameplay.

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
I do want this after seeing some of the gameplay videos, but I will absolutely wait until Black Friday like I wish I had with the Bioshock Collection

Just dropping in to say every Arkham fan absolutely must find a way to play Arkham VR. Its fits into the Arkham-verse just perfectly.

I hate to bump an old thread, but I can't find any info on this - did the stuttering ever get patched?

I'm at the end of Asylum right now, so I can't speak for City. The graphic is definitely much much better. Don't look at those cherry picked screens: illumination is totally different but much more advanced so sometimes side by side this remastered can look worse but it's not the case.

Frame rate is not bad, but there's annoying stuttering here and there and it's a shame.

Still playable, still awesome...

I've played through all of Arkham Asylym and I thought it was fine. Sure some stuttering here and there, but nothing that really bothered me at least. But I wish they had put in the extra time to make it run in 60fps.

Does anyone know if the xbox one let's you play while installing the (digital) game (especially Arkham Asylum)?

The file size was misleading. It said 43 GB for both and 36 GB for Arkham City alone. But that's not the truth, it's 25 GB for Asylum....so I'm curious if I can play the beginning to see the graphical upgrade.

Well, I guess I'll have to eat crow.
Arkham Asylum Remaster looks absolutely stunning. Sure, the performance is not good (as you can see in the videos) but the graphic comparisons are misleading. It really looks great.

Now I can enjoy the best game in the series with enhanced graphics. Nice.

So, I started playing through Arkham City a few weeks back and while the frame rate was generally higher than it was with AA it was still very noticeably a variable frame rate with the most noticeable frame dips being while traversing the city itself.

I recently bought a PS4 Pro and after playing for a few hours (mostly outdoors, staying in the city) I feel pretty confident in saying that the frame rate in this game is now closer to a more stable 60fps than it was before. This leaves me to wonder if the PS4 version of AA, a game that struggled to maintain 30fps, would now be able to maintain a stable 30fps?

I don't think this game got Pro support, did it?
