I'm not super familiar with the rabbids. Are there varying types? Do they all essentially look the same? I'm curious because I'd like them to come up with new rabbid types if this is to be an SRPG. It at least hints at a Bowser rabbid, so there's that.

"In 2017 join a Yoshi, a toad, a kamek, a shy guy, a koopa, a goomba, a boo..... and a Rabbid!!?? Together they must overcome their differences to save the mushroom Kingdom and everyone they hold dear in Super Mario RPG: Rabbid Invasion"

Strategy/tactical RPG

Yoshi - high attack/leader
Toad - scout/Battlefield knowledge (I'm stuck with this one)
Kamek - Black magic
Shy guy - tech/items
Koopa - high defence/front line
Goomba - standard infantry
Boo - stealth/recon
Rabbid - anti Rabbid skills

i also think this game isn't going to do particularly well if released on launch day

who would buy this when there's a god tier masterpiece 3D Mario right there alongside it
This is why launch days are so hard.

People complain when there aren't 30 games of different genres at launch, but for the most part, launch is a half-played Jenga Tower. Like two blocks are going to get pulled out and the rest will fall.

Ideally those games get spread out over 30 - 60 days.

They're like Toads, it's mostly the same base but they each have different costume.
I think this is a nice sample of what to expect :

Because they like rpgs and Mario switch isn't one and they have enough money for more than one game?

Wow - weird.

Rabbids aren't exactly "worthy" of being in a game with Mario in my mind. I mean, they haven't even made it to the Smash Bros. tier yet! :)

Holy Leaks Nintendo!

With this, the new 3D Mario, Splatoon pack-in and Pokemon game leaks, I'm sold. Day one for this thing.

My understanding is Ubisoft approached Nintendo with the idea and Nintendo agreed with the condition of heavy supervision.

It is aso my understanding that this game is like where like 80% of Switch leaks came from.

Upon further thinking I don't really think this idea is that wild. Nintendo said they want to expand their brand, more crossovers, Rabbids is a brand that was heavily successful in the west and is already associated with Nintendo platforms, and fits alongside Mario in terms of things like mass audience appeal.

I expect it to play more like Ghost Recon Shadow Wars than anything else, which makes some sense since that was a 3DS launch game and it was Ubisoft developed.

Ah, god bless Ubisoft. We can always count on them to be the leakiest ship in the business.

Makes sense - I'm sure the Switch will also get some heavy support out of the gate from Ubi because of this.

Hopefully Nintendo can make the Rabbids something I actually care about!

I remember when I used to hate the Rabbids purely because their existence was the reason we weren't getting any Rayman games. Then we got new Rayman games and all was forgiven.

I have so little interest in this that me ignoring it during the Switch presentation is probably going to cause me to miss some other kind of announcement.

Yes, this is how reality works

When you do one thing, you could have done literally anything else

Depends on what appeals to you more I guess/where your preferences lie. I don't like Mario outside of the platformers/kart racers/smash so seeing another game dedicated to him doesn't satisfy me. I would have preferred a HoM&M/FE crossover, a Nintendo sponsored reboot of Prince of Persia or an exclusive Driver game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But if it plays like Fire Emblem or XCOM? that'll be hard to ignore no matter what the crossover is.

I'm nor familiar with minions or rabbids so maybe I don't understand how miserably annoying they truly are to some.

Wow... Rabbids. Talk about awful and annoying characters. Those things are as annoying as the Minions. But oh well. Good thing we have the 3D Mario game coming as well <3

Maybe I'm missing something, but where does this disgust of Rabbids come from?

The games are typically party-like, and maybe can be considered shovelware, but if they are featured in an RPG/SRPG/TRPG, what is the issue? Are people seriously that grated by the characters themselves?

Also, how do Rabbids not fit in with Mario? They both have pretty much the same art styles and same type of humor through animations, facial expressions, etc.

I don't know why Nintendo would want this. Rabbids are so 2009 or whatever.

The Mario universe is already so rich in wacky characters that they really don't need to crossover with a fading Rayman spin-off.

What the WHAAAAAAT!?!?

Aside from the crossover aspect, it'll be cool to see a real Mario RPG with actual characters and NPCs again (going by that description)

I really like the idea to feature minor characters. It's probably so they can sell more amiibo but this makes me happy nonethless. I hope Waluigi, Nabbit and Captain Toad are in.

It's probably so because Nintendo didn't want to grant Ubisoft full access to everything.

Nintendo needs 3rd party developers to make games for their new console, Ubisoft wants visibility for one of their fading IPs = win/win?

Oh! So one thing I want to ask is this considered the New IP that is similiar to Splatoon that Emily was talking about or nah. I assume it's not.

The Rabbids are on TV. Three seasons as of now.

Rabbids. TV. Yadayada.
Ubisoft trying so hard to make rabbids a thing.
They are a thing.

I wonder if this sort of blackmail will become common place.

"Of cooooooourse we'll put that AAA port on your console... if we can make a Mario crossover game."

I hate Rabbids but love Mario RPG's, especially the rest of this concept. I just hope all the characters aren't simply Toads and Rabbids with Bowser as the only villain.

It seems like this situation would only be a Nintendo situation since MS and Sony already have the (American) third parties. It seems like Nintendo is pretty protective of their IPs/experiences so it doesn't seem like that bad of a thing for Nintendo.

As a person without TV this is the first time hearing about Rabbids on TV, so this game and Ubi IPs can reach the adult Nintendo audience that doesn't watch cartoons?

If it's an SRPG, I'll probably pass, since those don't really resonate with me.

Though, I'll still be pretty worried if this seems to be displaying the issues that have been cropping up in recent Mario RPGs.

Remember folks, Ubi is making the game. So do not expect something like a Paper Mario clone or something.

And Nintendo is also supervising this, so it will need to satisfy Nintendo folks (Miyamoto? He likes weird stuff...).

I wouldn't worry about the quality of the game, it won't be for everyone's taste though.

While I'm sure they're happy about older people buying these games, kids are and will always be the primary audience. And that's totally fine.
