Exactly. Sure, we likely won't have a "Day after Tomorrow"-type Doomsday scenario for a while but mass refugee movements, climate/resource wars, diminishing of our quality of life, etc WILL definitely happen. Makes me want to just give up, but I know I can't.

Agreed, I feel many seem to think that until we have some sort of Day After Tomorrow-esuqe number of disasters all at once then climate change hasn't "officially happened" yet >_>

This has been kinda bothering me. In all these threads about the horrible shit Trump plans on doing, why aren't his supporters defending it? Where did they all go?

This shit is literally concerns the future of the human race as a whole and people still think we shouldn't worry about it, or that it's some sort of hoax. I seriously do not know what the downside to believing in climate change is. The worst that happens is we make an effort to preserve our planet for future generations. Guess these people don't care about the future though, it's all about making money right now. Makes me sick.

They don't care. They revealed themselves to be the amoral sociopaths that they are.

Anyone who voted for him and bragged about it is free to challenge me on this, but somehow I doubt you will.

How can people like Trump and most of the Republicans even live with themselves? Disgusting human beings who only care about their pockets and selfish interests instead of protecting our planet, our only home.

Fuck this orange piece of shit and fuck the people who voted for this orange piece of shit. I will never in my life understand how a person can be so fucking ignorant to believe this bullshit. Unless of course it's just about making a quick buck - then I'd say fuck this crooked piece of shit even more.

PS: If this is the official stance of the U.S., then it is time for sanctions, or even better: send Nato troups to take out the president. Why should the whole world pay the price for such boundless stupidity and egoism?

Cmon, everyone saw this coming. They knew he was a psycho when they voted for him. They came out of the woodworks in that little brief moment after the election because they knew that window would be small before he started lighting the fucking country on fire. Ever since his appointments started its been a fucking dumpster fire and they dont post anymore at ALL unless they are able to find/cherry pick a thread here and there to sneak a drive by in.

But other than that, they aren't coming back. They never were going to stick around and try and defend the mess; they voted for that racist jerk and got what they wanted. They will be radio silent from this point onward.... until stuff like protests pop up and a glass window somewhere gets broken... Then they will briefly surface to pop some slick shit, then vanish again.

Can we start up our own nation?
Do these dumb fucks realize that coal and oil is running out in the next 20 years anyway?
Fuckers need to actually prevent this inevitable global destruction unfold but no
Republicans and the GOP are all rich people dick suckers.
Theres a reason no one who is poor or educated votes for them. They act like 5 year olds towards science.

Fuck this. Where do I sign up to overthrow the government?
Seriously. He's not even in office yet but it feels like it's getting worse everyday. At this point I would be 100% cool with a coup d'etat to stop these monsters from ruining not only the country but now the world.

Religion and capitalism are the biggest blights of the human race.

Much good is done both through religion and as a product of capitalism. Stupidity is the problem. A lack of foresight. The proclivity to have your loyalty sold.

Yep, history will not look kindly on the United States and it's citizens in centuries to come.

Thinking we have "centuries to come" seems a little optimistic with the worlds current trajectory.

Also fuck every single person who voted for Trump, Stein, Johnson, or stayed at home on Election Day. As someone not from the US I hope your national temper trantrum was worth jeopardizing the future of our planet.

That's a better alternative then fucking up the entire planet. I've said it once, and I'm going to repeat what I said again, I would rather have this country plunge into a civil war and be completely divided into smaller nations rather than dooming the rest of this planet because of Trump's idiocracy and the GOP's cartoon supervillainry. We either die a hero or we live long enough to see ourselves become the villain. That's where we will be soon enough.
That's fine and all, but let's not reduce this to myopic, useless-in-the-real-world lines from movies. I mean, really. That's a ridiculous thing to say.

And we're not going to "divide" into smaller nations. We had one chance, and Lincoln disallowed it.

Frankly we should go even further. Doctors should find anyone who denies climate change and simply refuse to give them any form of treatment. They clearly don't want it seeing as they don't believe in science.

Doctors are extremely conservative. Look at his choice for HHS. They aren't really pro science, they're pro "this is how I've done it all this time." Good luck convincing them - as a doctor they're smarter than you.

Lincoln didn't 'disallow' anything. The Union won the war. Had they lost it, the Confederates would've seceded and weakened the rest of the Union, potentially paving the way for both the Union and the Confederacy's dissolution, following roughly the same pattern as the Southern continent. North America might've ended up looking like the South: a few larger countries with a bunch of small ones.

Has no one seen Escape from LA? The downfall of the U.S has been predicted for a long long time.

We're inching ever so close. We'll be behind China in stem cell research, climate change and alternative energy....practically everything.

The only beacon of hope is Silicone Valley but then they're contributing to the job loss of middle america that is somewhat responsible for Trump. And i doubt silicone valley smart billionaires will care about the U.S in the end, they'll jump ship like something out of Elysium.

Nope. Not how history went. Well, it's not how actual history went. The watered-down version people learn in school and in most media went the way you think.

The South offered to secede. Lincoln disallowed it and chose war to keep the Confederacy a part of the Union. It would have cost much less money and many fewer lives to buy slaves from the South and give them Union freedom. But Lincoln didn't care about that. He just didn't want to be the president who let the country split.

It's allowing shit-heads to be shit-heads but I really think this is a losing battle for Trump's administration. Hell, I saw a feel-good commercial for Exxon Mobil talking up their research in fuel efficiency and alternative energy. It can be mostly bullshit but it also underlines the changing opinions about oil, natural gas and emissions, and how you cannot stand against climate change science. I suspect most change will happen because consumers demand it (environmentally friendly is sexy, you can sell products with it), not because it's federally regulated.

Over 2 million more people voted for Clinton over Trump.

Just gonna quote myself:

Just to give some context: Hitler in 1933 couldn't even secure the 50% of the vote required for an absolute majority.
And that was with those guys patrolling the streets in force on election day:

Bundesarchiv_Bild_102-14381%2C_Berlin%2C_Polizeipatrouille_am_Wahltag.jpg

USA voted for Trump overwhelmingly [through the electoral system] despite not having Nazi goons in all the polling stations looking over your shoulder. He also didn't need trickery with a new minor conservative party no one knew about (that was secretly a NSDAP puppet - the coalition got Hitler barely over the 50% he needed).
Yet no one remembers this and most people blame Germans for "voting" Hitler. America made its bed and will have to lie in it. Shame for the people who voted against Trump and especially the minorities, but this is how the world will look at the US.

Bit different if you have kids, admittedly.

Yeah. It's a bit different.

Not giving a shit about the future is what got us here in the first place. So kids or not, telling people they'll all be dead before it matters is a terrible position.

China (and Russia to an extent) are moving in that direction, though they're so huge it will take time. China has the "benefit" of not really having a choice because they have such a pollution problem that it's literally killing their citizens.

Yeah the China situation is a bit "do or die", unfortunately, as well as India's (though they can't push for green when they're still dealing with giving their population access to electricity). Though hopefully China can pick where the US left off and continue to push for a greener world.

For our part, we (Portugal) are now generating 60% of our total energy from renewable sources (inner green and dark grey circle) versus last year's ~48% (green+blue bits on the left side).

Both links in Portuguese. The English pages on the site are hit or miss, but you can try them too.

Despite the Trump administration's fucking moronic view on climate change I think and hope that private industry in the US will continue to work towards energy efficiency. It sure would make it a lot fucking easier if the govt was helping though.

You know that new manager who takes.over your company and just looks at how to get the best numbers and screw everything else, including you?

That's Donald Trump.

Nobody likes that guy. He's there to make the shareholders happy.

People say they want their country run by a businessman?

Well there you go.

I thought billionaire businessmen controlling the country, hoarding all the money and not sharing with the common man was he problem tho?

This is just fucking perfect. We are so screwed, all because of that orange fuckwit.

It's lazy to just blame him. People in general are too lazy and comfortable to care. We've outsourced factories and people don't really see effects of pollution in the US.

Climate change became a liberal thing.

Are you serious? They are banned, or remain silent so they don't get banned. NeoGAF is a one sided conversation, an echo chamber if you will, when it comes to politics.

No Union president - apart from maybe an eternal compromiser like Millard Fillmore - would've accepted that.
So now you're just changing the discussion. Okay, sure.

Just because you think no Union president would have done that doesn't mean Lincoln didn't make a bad decision in retrospect. There were advisers at the time who recommended letting the South go if it meant going to war. It's not as though this is only an opinion of retrospect.

Yes, not tolerating bigotry makes us an awful, awful echo chamber.
