Final Fantasy XV SPOILER THREAD

1. It's Nyx, protagonist of Kingsglaive.
2. It's a "What If" like the ending to Titanic. Just a bittersweet scene to show you what could've been.
3. They are indeed dead. They're last shown going up against a large amount of daemons and next we see them they join Noctis in the afterlife along with Regis and Luna to destroy Ardyn for good. Not sure why people think it's "up to interpretation." It's not, they're dead.
4. That was the last camping trip before heading to the final battle.

Phew, glad I'm not the only one. Guessing it's pre-rendered and they compressed it.

They don't join Noctis in the afterlife. It's a typical "Here are my Nakama and cause of them I win" scene. Nothing else. You only see them from Ardyn perspective and you even see Regis normal form which he shouldn't have at all. The last scene before Insomenia wouldn't even make much sense in that context imo. Why even bother showing Noctis crying and saying he doesn't want to die? Isn't that powerful if we think that his bros joined him after all.

Just because that's a popular Japanese trope doesn't mean that's what happened. It showed them facing overwhelming odds for a reason.

They're dead.

The end scene doesn't even make sense with Regis being there. He is in the ring not outside and he is being used immediately by Noctis. Facing overwhelming odds with 3 red knights? After them surviving the world of ruins for 10 years? Also why shouldn't japanese tropes not work here? It's clear as day and night. You don't see them anymore from Noctis perspective and that also takes everything out of the last camp scene. Why even bother showing this scene AFTER the final fight with that dialogue?

yeah that cutscene looked AWFUL to me. It had color banding everywhere and blockyness. I thought it was my new TV doing HDR wrong onmy pro.

but then i checked youtube and it was fine. so i'm not sure whats going on there..

Phew, glad I'm not the only one. Guessing it's pre-rendered and they compressed it.

Heh, glad I wasn't alone. I was part of the KS8000 crowd and assumed something was wrong with my set for a hot minute.

What happened to the Greece-like town shown during development lol?
They should have just remove everything past chapter 9 and focus on making the open world more rich. I really don't understand why they went that way. We didn't need to go to Niflheilm or Tenebrae at all for the story to move forward. All that it needed was for Eos to have one more Town (southern coast near caem is perfect) and focus on taking back the throne. That part after chapter 9 is utter shit and really no reason to exist.

Hm? The only other town they showed off was Lestallum iirc.
Actually wondered about that too, lol. Suppose it's on the second contintent, but was cut or maybe it's in one of the DLCs.

Talking about this here from the CEDEC 2016 slides, btw:

They're dead.

Overwhelming odds were what they encountered at the end of Chapter 13, after already dealing with zombie Ravus.

Those few Giants, with 10 years of solo daemon hunting under their belt, and Noctis pretty much ending the curse 10 minutes later... Not to mention they seemingly succeeded in holding off the Giants as Noctis could safely undergo the ritual.

yeah they're dead.

That dawn trailer scene would have been one of the best cutscens the game has if it was in the game lol. The story is there and it's very good but it was told so badly like fucking terrible bad. This could easily be one of the best FF if they would flesh out the story far better and made everything after Altissia like Lucia continent.

Let us explore the Empire continent. Speard out the content more like the Tombs and Summons. It would have been perfect if there was an area to explore for every Summon like we have the disc on Lucis contient or Altissia in Accordo. They could have moved Ramuh closer to the Rock of Ravatogh (was Ifrit supposed to be there?) and change it to something more Ramuh feeting. Obviously the snowy region of Shiva with outposts and stuff. Imagine how great it would have been. Fuck so much potential after how I think they mostly nailed Lucis continent in terms of looks and things to do (dungeons are great, hunts okay, fetch quest not really) and the road trip feeling.

This game clearly needed more development time. Such a shame but it's still a good game in the end. With patches and the known DLC they may make it a little better but it will not fix the underlying issues. This game could have been one of the greates for sure.
I will probably never get over how good this game could have been lol

And for fun I think the trilogy could have gone like this:
1: Lucis continent + Altissa - ends with death of Luna, more about Line of Lucis and the King's struggle, Summons and there nature.
2: Emipre continent - in fully glory, far more story backstory about Empire and why there doing what they are.
3: World of Ruin - both Lucis and Empire continet explorable with changes. Though this might have been a stretch as the whole game would have to be in the night setting.

I don't agree with this, i think going more linear was the right choice.
The problem is they went too linear.
Should have let us have a couple of small areas to freely explore before reaching Gralea (maybe the Santorini-like city, and the surroundings of the Caestino Mines with some optional hunts), and some bits of Tenebrae before the invasion. Give us the ability to freely go from Altissia to Tenebrae and back, then when you move towards Shiva (maybe bring back her supposed dungeon while you're at it) it goes full linear.
For World of Ruin, keep it linear but let us get to see how's everyone doing in Lestallum instead of shooting us straight to Insomnia.

All achieavable in one game, divided in three parts:

1. Lucis (Leide, Duscae, Cleigne) - open world
2. Altissia, Santorini-like city and surroundings, expanded Caestino Mines and Tenebrae - smaller open world
3. Shiva's corpse, Gralea, WoR Lucis (Lestallum and Hammerhead), Insomnia - full linear

Chapter 14 has been kind of awkward because character models keep disappearing on me both in battle and in cutscenes. Prompto completely disappeared in one scene and ardyn disappeared during the fight.

Edit: Watching the ending and Prompto's still fucking disappeared lmao

You left your PS4 in rest mode.
I got weird graphical glitches as well. Fixed once I did a proper shutdown.

Beat the game.
I wish this game showed more than told.
Most of the major events were told than shown and I just read that we were patched in scenes from Kingsglaive on release day.
How do you not have include those scenes in the main design document of the game.
Maybe the upcoming patches will fill in the story.

Also, from the moment I started playing I was anticipating these scene.

Joke was on me.
I went on media blackout too late.
Should have done it 5 years ago in stead of 4. :p

I really enjoyed what I played. Just wish they showed more of the important threads (more Luna, more Regis, The Empire, Ardyn's past, etc.) that connected to the main plot.
Next time Square, finish the main story, then make the side quests.

Yeah, this is very possible. It's also possible that the bloodline itself was shifted when the gods chose Izunia instead (maybe that's why Ardyn's armiger is red - because he's of a different lineage?) I wish the game was clearer about this.

I wish it was clearer about a lot of things.

So I thought about that too, but it seems like even though his armiger is red, all the weapons are the same as Noctis's.

Just because that's a popular Japanese trope doesn't mean that's what happened. It showed them facing overwhelming odds for a reason.

They're dead.

Lol, nah. It's so clearly not the case that I don't know how else to convince you, but I guess people are gonna see what they wanna see.

I would buy the idea they are dead, if it wasn't for the fact they (somehow) managed to get out in a seemingly impossible fight in ch 13.

This is a good point. We also have no idea how they escaped the empire which should have also been seemingly impossible.

I think they are alive.

I didn't go on blackout but had kind of forgot a lot of that. I thought I was safe mostly going by what was in trailers for FFXV (so, not Versus), but as you can see that wasn't the case. Recently checked out a Kotaku article talking about how XV revealed too much in trailers and I was going through all of them and holy shit they cut a lot from the game.

There are like 2 full CG trailers with almost none of that in the game itself. That entire pre-Leviathan sequence which was basically the entire basis for one of the trailers was cut, too.

And then there's the other stuff which is different in game. One trailer started out with them riding past what I'm told is Adamantoise (haven't fought or seen him yet), and I guess that doesn't happen in the game either. The scene doesn't anyway, and that's a bummer for something so magical and that they kicked off a major trailer with.

The English voice acting in this game is simply top-notch. My favorites are Ardyn and Noctis, but all of the bros are great, too. Ditto for Cor, Iris, Aranea. Luna's VA is quality work; I just wish we got to see a more playful side (but that's more how the character is written, obviously).

I think Ardyn and Noctis deserve special praise, though. When Ardyn tells his tale at the end of Ch. 13, there's so much going on in his voice, so many layers. And Noctis shows the full range of emotion in this game. Simply amazing.

edit: Oh, and say what you will about Cindy's design, but her voice work is excellent.

Any good website/post that explains the 114th king prophecy?

And why again did Ardyn help Noctis along the way? Was it so that he would actually become king so he could then kill him and take his revenge?

Bonus question: There are 13 royal arms, each representing a previous dead king. But there are 113 kings right? So lore-wise, are there actually 113 arms and tombs scattered in Lucis? Or did I get that wrong?

I'd assume that only the kings who did really awesome things were given tombs. I can't imagine that 113 kings all lived a life of combat like Regis and Noctis did.

I've been hating on the English VA a lot here and I disliked Gladio and Ignis (and of course Prompto, though he is annoying in any language) so much that I decided to switch to German for the first time in my life in a game, BUT Noctis and Ardyn definitely were two of the few good ones I've heard 20 hours in or so. Cid and Cor were good too.

What are you talking about? ;)

1. He resented his immortality after being alone for so many years and going mad, so he wanted to die and knew Noct was the only one with the potential to kill him and end his eternal suffering.

2. Some part of him genuinely wanted the starscourge to be cleansed from the world, since he'd tried to remove it in the past.

3. He hated the Lucis line, the Crystal, and the Gods for what they'd turned him into and wanted to end them all in the most theatrical way possible, by allowing their "Chosen One" reach his full potential and striking him down. A "final showdown."

Frankly I think it's some combination of the three, which is what makes Ardyn so fascinating and complex.

Beat the game at 3 am this morning. I like that the longest scene at the end was Noctis trying to say how much Ignis, Prompto, and Gladio meant to him. I assume it's from when they camped before the mission, and he had told him that he needed to die in order to save the world from the daemons.

Honestly, if the game started out and Noctis was just doing a routine peace-keeping mission as the prince and his guard with no romantic relationship between Noctis and Luna and everything else stayed the same, the story would end up being the same. Ultimately, the relationship in this game that matters is the one between the four guys. So, I can see why at least in the initial release they kept the permanent playable characters to just them.

Hopefully, the DLC allows for fully fleshed story arcs and side quests that expand upon some of the things not shown on the screen. A Ravus in the Imperial Capital side quest would be nice even if we all know the ending. Luna as she goes to awaken the Astrals. Aranea/Iris hunting sidequests where you must save citizens and fight daemons. A playable mini-Kingsglaive DLC would be the best though.

Missing three sealed dungeons, Steyliff, Crestholm and Costleham. Any advice to these three? I know Steyliff is really long, and Costleham limits items.

Steyliff: for Tonberries, I would just hold defend and parry their attacks because they attack so often.

Flans that are invulnerable to physical attacks: use magic.

Everything else fights like a regular enemy.

Not much to say about Steyliff and Crestholm. Just keep doing what you've been doing.

Costlemark: Bring lots and lots of magic. Particularly blizzaga. Since you can't use items, make lots of healcast (but this can only heal Noct). Eating the lasagna food before going in helps alot too. I would do this dungeon last.

Come stocked for Steyliff, then you're pretty much good to go. And if you can handle Steyliff, you can do Crestholm, which is weirdly much easier.

---

For Costlemark, consider first farming AP (if you don't have them already) for skills like Impervious, the Advanced First Aid skills for your crew, max out the majority of the skills in the Stats/Teamwork grids in the Ascension tree, etc.

For accessories and outfits, at the very least obtain a Ribbon beforehand in order to not have to worry about status conditions, and the Thermal suit which grants you invulnerability to two bosses (one being the final boss) in the dungeon that rely primarily on fire-based attacks.

For equipped techniques, Ignis should have Regroup, Prompto gets Piercer, Gladio I felt it was best to have Impulse.

For fighting in general, pretty much always play it safe, so obviously prioritize not getting hit period. Don't focus on trying to kill with warp-strikes for AP if you normally do that, just be quick and kill them ASAP. For tougher enemies, it's okay to be patient and stick to mostly parrying them. Then of course, don't forget the obvious benefit of having i-frames when using techniques and such.

For Magic, fill up all of your flasks with Healcast spells (Hi-Potions easily make this Lv99, which heals all of your Max HP). Then have your elemancy full for all three elements, just in case you happen to need to make more.

That's all that comes to mind atm.

I agree that a lot of the voice acting is impressive especially considering how they had to handle it all w/o being in the same room as each other.

There are some npc's though that are terrible though. Monica sounds like a damn robot.

The ending was pretty good but I was disappointed that we didn't see what happens to everyone besides Noct.

Doesn't hold a candle to FF IV or FF VI in that department (or IX for that matter) in terms of putting a bow on everything.

The whole presentation of the story's a mess. Badly needs some stuff to fill in the gaps. I think you could do exposition dumps/narration to patch a lot of that up (plus reusing some existing stuff). Explaining why you need the Royal arms/Summons and what the plan is.

It's sort of a trope in Final Fantasy at this point, but if we had some baddies (generals/commanders) that reported to the Emperor that you're taking out it would have really helped tie the plot together. Ardyn could have acted like he didn't have the power to oppose them but disagreed with what they're doing, before betraying you and revealing who he really is. Throw in a "Meanwhile..." cutscene or two where we can at least see the relationship between everyone. That would let you feel like you're making progress.

Also a fight with the Emperor is something I was disappointed didn't happen.

The plot of this game is like Star Wars would be if Luke/Leia/Han just fought some stormtrooper grunts, the Deathstar blew up on its own, and they fought Lando who was immortal and the real bad guy behind everything.

hate to break it to ya... but uh...

That happened.

I don't recall Ubisoft using target renders, later telling people that those were indeed target renders, and being open about the development process of the game.
We've know with certainty since 2014 that those were target renders. When has Ubisoft ever gone out and said long before release "yeah, those things are probably not happening in the game so don't expect them"?

Lets not use false equivalencies to a trailer that released over 3 years ago.
