Sen no Kiseki III Confirmed to be a PS4 exclusive title

You know. Everyone seems to think Calvard is like, some eastern style country or something, but every time it is actually described in stories or by other people, outside of the people and customs, you know what the country actually makes me think of? Fucking Wild Arms lol. I just imagine this large sprawling country with more desert than anything else, frontier towns with saloons, cowboys, everyone with guns, cars and bikes, but then you have weeaboos all over who totally look American but dress like samurai and monks. Tea houses next to saloons. A random pagoda inside an industrial complex. Etc.

Yar, Calvard does not seem to be an eastern-style country as a whole. All the "eastern" stuff in the series actually originally comes from Eastern Zemuria, from which many immigrants come into Calvard.

This is perfect. Now they can go all out on the game graphically without either the PS3 or the Vita holding them back.

They should also consider porting the first two games to PS4 & give them the same treatment.

Porting and bringing to the west,

May aidios hear us bro

Yeah which is why I changed my initials Asian inspired statement because I forgot Calvard is like a country of immigrants and some sort of ridiculous melting pot with a sizeable eastern culture there but not necessarily faux-China or something.

Calvard is weird. Zane is from there and knows martial arts and it seems to have eastern influence, but it's also a republic with a president and a place where everyone owns a car and values independence. Their military is pretty strong (apparently) and it's also a melting pot of immigrants, so it's almost American-ish too.

Watch it end up being Trails-Dubai or Trails-Hong Kong

I always saw Calvard as originally being fake America, but with a lot of Asian influences due to the recent influx of immigrants from the east.

I remember Gambler Jack 2 bringing up that Calvard has movie theaters, which aren't really a thing anywhere else in Western Zemuria. That's a pretty interesting detail.

There are cinemas, a film industry, what seems like a parliamentary or senate type government, there are race tracks, race cars, etc.

Also, unless I'm mistaken, while Erebonia (Reinford in particular) makes orbal weapons like rifles and shotguns, it seems to be part of the tradition of hunting and warfare. Meanwhile the orbal handguns and more modern firearm concepts seem to originate from Calvard factories, or from Crossbell via Calvard R&D.

Joshua and Estelle ain't even my top picks for returning characters from Sora.

Schera and Anelace a are who I'd like to see make a return. And Aina for the lulz, I guess.

Also, who are we guessing might have the biggest visual change in look after one and half years ? Everybody's so hard on Elliot, he probably looks like this now.

We can't have the Alkoholsritter without them!

Cross-post from spoiler thread :

So, my general thoughts on what’s revealed so far on Cold Steel III:

Happy with Rean as a protagonist again. Unlike some of you all, I like Rean and I find his struggle interesting to go through and I hope that this time, with him clearly serving under a villain’s agenda, and him separated from his moral pillars, we’ll be able to see Rean with a more complex lense.
Happy with Altina as one of Rean’s partners this time. I rather enjoyed their dynamic in what little was shown, and for her to be… better dressed this time is a good thing.
Like the idea that Rean/Atina team include some new young bloods that they’re the seniors/mentors of.
Ambivalent on the new design of the two new members of Team Rean/Altina. They’re not bad or offensive (don’t mind skirts even if unrealistic, though pants are always plus points), but they don’t feel… striking or unique. Plus they remind me way too much of Nayuta no Kiseki.
Same feeling with green hair girl.
Don’t quite like the possibility that Blusis and Tonfan might be Thors-student or affiliate members assigned under Rean/Altina. Personally I don’t feel the need to introduce a student/school dynamic anymore to the “level” that Rean and co. are at. I’d rather they be Junior Ironbloods or some sort of RMP elite cadets or something.

Some random takeaways based on stuff shown with limited context:

Graphics look nice yesss. Finally out of the gutter to Tales-team level of graphics.
Alisa
looks nice.
LOL Sara did you raid Laura’s wardrobe or something? If you coloured Sara’s hair blue, I would almost guess that’s Laura instead of Sara.
Stuff shown are pretty cool, but I guess I wish I hadn’t already seen
Alisa’s upgraded look a while ago because I expected more Class VII upgraded reveals this time. I thirst to see new Fie, Sara, Jusis, Laura and Millium, primarily.
Wonder how much of Crossbell is recreated for CSIII… cuz you know… CROSSBELL REMAKE 2019.
Excited but cautiously concerned as well for seamless battle transition/etc. Never as easy as it sounds since it demands increase of play space as well. Same with trying to incorporate Valimar more seamlessly into battles.

Some random speculation/guesses/hopes for CSIII:

So, I’m speculating WHITE HAIRED SHADOW behind Rean in the key art is probably some new character masked white-haired dude that feels like Crow, fights like Crow, but is totally not Crow. Maybe it’s going to be a Rean clone or something.
I still suspect that Rean will not be the main protagonist for the entire game, but maybe 1/3rd or halfway through the game we’ll start seeing a second perspective from #TEAMOLIVIER that’s trying to make his own comeback against Osborne’s strong political position after CS2.
Game will culminate in some sort of weird CIVIL WAR storyline except this time it’s between Class VII friends as Jusis and (some friends) stand with Olivier to oppose Osborne whereas Rean and (some friends) stand with Osborne to oppose Olivier for fake drama before Rean realises he’s a huge idiot and defects to team Olivier.
There won’t be a Cold Steel IV. CSIII will mark the end of the Erebonia/Class VII storyline.Still unsure if this will mean the end of the Osborne storyline.

All kinda english game spoilers:

I've stated this many a time, but Rean MUST MUST MUST have his head "lived in" 24/7 when he's on screen. Every time he jots off or hell, relies on quantum Slink scenes, it wastes valuable time establishing characterization, theming, and motivations consistantly. He is a protagonist. A TRAILS protagonist. Self-inserters will insert themselves anyways.

That also goes for this new Team Rean as well. Show personalites, allude depth. ALWAYS. No more Gaiuses who go wallflower for chapters at a time.

Are they RMP cadets from Thors? Class VIII/IX? Sounds like some fun speculation!

I was under the impression that the white-haired form behind him was Dark Hadou Rean (perhaps a metaphor for his inner turmoil? cool if so!)

If anything, Jusis would begrudgingly side with Ozzy. He is defacto Duke of Bareahard, and thus in a very similar situation as Rean...

Going miss playing the psp/vita titles on the commute. Oh well. Bought both portable because of Falcom, time to follow suit.

I hear you. Loooong JRPGs are a pain and take me months to play on my tv, so I prefer them on Vita, so I can play on lunch and breaks.

As far as the world is concerned though, the Azure Knight was a traitor who got shown the door by the Ashen Knight.

I mean certainly you'd probably get some diverse opinions depending on where they stood in the war but if they're working directly with Osborne's faction I doubt an association.

Now I'm imagining God Hand featuring Zane.

Thinking again the Lion Crest is the symbol of the thors Academy, so certainly it's a New class from the School or a New thors School maybe in crossbell

We can see the horned Lion Crest better here

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Falcom is clearly not known to be at the top graphically, so not really no.

they dont have to be at the top for vita to be holding them back. PS4 is the only non dead hardware to put this game on

For those devs who dont have the budget money and resources to sink blood from a stone, its far easier to just go with more powerful consoles and put their games on that with less effort.

Falcom was never known for its graphics and expecting the game to look way better than the first two games because it's a PS4-exclusive is bracing for disappointment.

But it already does look markedly better based on the screens we have

That's not what I'm saying. When I say 'graphics' I'm talking about the full package - framerate and resolution as well as character models.

It's clear Falcom has been struggling to make their games even hit 30fps on PS3 and Vita, and the Vita versions of Tokyo Xanadu and Ys 8.

I mean for fucks sake, Cold Steel II dropped into single digit FPS on Vita when McBurn started doing his effects.

Now the PS4 versions of their games are running at 60 which is something I really wanted and I bet they're feeling better about that as well.

Yes, it actually looks like a PS3 title now. Being better doesn't mean it's even on-par with other titles on the platform.

Anyone familiar with Falcom would learn to expect that they're pretty much one-and-half gen behind the mid-to-top range devs (not even the highest calibre ones) when it comes in their ability to be technically and graphically competent.

The fact that their games look like Tales-level graphically right now is more than enough to make me happy. Now I just need them to have their cinematics team keep up.

Actually I don't think Tales looks as good as those shots. This looks better, graphically. I played the Berseria demo, this looks better if these shots are accurate.

I'm reserving judgement till we actually see the game running real-time. As nice as these shots are, they're still magazine images and selected marketing material. >_>

Playing a Cold Steel game in 1080p and with a stable framerate would already be a huge improvement

Yeah this. If they make this 60fps with those visuals like Ys 8 PS4 and Tokyo Xanadu ex+ PS4 I'll be really, really happy. Even if it's 30, though, I'll still be down as long as we aren't getting Vita-level bad framerates.

That's just the Tales art direction sucking if anything. It's kind of about the same as far as fidelity is concerned.

By the way, Tokyo Xanadu ex+ PS4 runs at a solid 60 and looks like this:

I can see CS3 running at 60, there isn't too much of a difference here. Obviously greater model fidelity since this was originally a Vita game and they didn't revamp the models, but still.

I'd personally much rather have the visuals from the first two games if it meant being able to play it on a handheld.
I'm just not sure if I'm ever going to be able to play through CS3 going by my console RPG track record. Console RPGs don't suit me/my life, if that makes sense.

I don't want to be to bitter, though, and I certainly understand people being excited about this being developed with PS4 as the base platform.

Nah, I see where you're coming from, but my perspective is coming from Falcom's troubled and frustrated development trying to fit their current 3D game production workflow onto PS3/Vita and barely making 25-30fps most of the time.

You must have noticed how crappy Cold Steel I and II's framerate got sometimes, being completely unacceptable at certain times. PS4 gives them room to breathe.

Don't move the goalposts. We were talking about how more power gave them an ability to do things they could not do on the previous hardware. This is correct.
