What cancelled/unreleased game intrigues you the most?

I'm surprised it took this long for someone to mention Prey 2. The direction they are going in now is very disappointing.

Can't say I agree with that. Immersive sims are a great genre and Arkane is almost single-handedly keeping it alive. They're a quality studio. Prey 2 did look cool but I have faith Prey 2017 will be great as well.

Silent Hills hurts though.

Damn I remember project offset. I was so looking forward to that game and the engine as a commercial development tool. The devs sold out to Intel and Intel just straight sodomized them.

Intel abandoned their discreet graphics GPU projects, fired everybody involved with building the offset engine and game. Then refused to sell or release the game, assets or the engine back to the developers even though they had very limited use for any of it. Sad situation. Seeing the Days Gone Molotov cocktail scene reminded me so much of the offset self shadowing demo that was released that I remember being so freaking unique at the time.

All of the dead Legacy of Kain projects profiled by Mama Robotnik are fascinating attempts at reviving a worthy series.

This one's personal, but I also always wondered what happened to some of the lost PSP games, as that platform had a lot of vaporware. We've seen Elder Scrolls Travels, Saints Row Undercover and Advent Shadow, but I still wonder what was the full story behind Resident Evil Portable and Devil May Cry PSP (both officially announced) as well as Argonaut's Zero Hour and Naps Team's Gekido reboot.

(Still tantalized by Domenico Barba's Unseen64 interview recently where he said, "I’d love to sabotage your mission and release Gekido: The Dark Angel one day :)"

Metal Gear Rising Lightning Bolt Action (Fox Engine). That game was a dream scenario for me. Instead we got Ninja Gaiden with Metal Gear skins. :(

One game I would love to play one day is Crash Landed

I'm happy Crash is back and we are getting the remakes next year (plus a solid cameo in Skylanders this fall) but it would be great to see the full version of Radical Entertainments take on Crash after the Titans games.

I would love to see Super Mario 64 2 in action. Chances are every halfway decent idea that game had was probably recycled in later games but I'm still interested in how it was gonna look.

Stuff like this never really captures my attention as it was cancelled before it ever really got going beyond a few abstract ideas.

Conker's other Bad Day is another one for me. No actual technical work was done but Chris Seavoy had written the entire story board and was all ready to go when Xbox cancelled the project.

Silent Hill: Cold Heart (turned into Silent Hill: Shuttered Mammaries)

In that order.

As someone who has researched Climax a lot, Cold Heart was simply their concept pitch. Nothing was really developed.

By FAR, Silent Hills. I felt like it was shaping up to be one of the greatest horror games imaginable, and for it to be fucked off in such a way by Konami really bothered me and still does.

I was so excited to play the VirtualBoy game "Dragon Hopper". It and the "totally not F-Zero" game looked pretty good.

Oh man, I remember I was hoping they would port some of the VB games to 3DS and rework some of their unreleased stuff like this into new games. I dunno, bouncing around in a top-down view with the 3DS' 3D feature might've been neat. Kinda.

Star Wars 1313
That Darth Maul game

The newer Soul Reaver game that was canceled looks like it would have sucked, but I would love to see that franchise resurrected using the original art direction style, story and characters.

World Rally - Mega CD

Indiana jones and the fate of atlantis - Mega CD

Power Drift - Mega CD

Flying Nightmares sega cd

Waterworld - Sega Saturn

BC - XBox

That Illinois horror game by SEGA's Hitmaker

Mudkicker - Multiplatform

Lunatik - Sega Saturn

Enders Project/Zone of the Enders 3

I was super excited for not only a continuation of ZOE, but Enders Project looked like it was gonna dive into the actual mythology of the series in which instead of piloting a mech, you were in an exo-suit type version of Jehuty. HyperBitHero made a great video about it.

Unfortunately, because of the botched HD remaster(Fuck you, High Voltage), Konami cancelled Enders Project, and effectively, the series. I'm still hoping KojiPro makes a spiritual successor after Death Stranding.

Cancelled Games:
Star Wars 1313 - I was blown away upon seeing the trailer. Hopefully Amy Hennig's Star Wars will help fill this hole
Prey 2 - I loved the cyberpunk aesthetic
StarCraft Ghost - I think this would've been a chance to have a more story focused StarCraft game, and the premise always sounded cool.
Stormlands (Obsidian's cancelled Xbox One exclusive) - really just wanted to know what the game was about, and why it was cancelled

Unreleased games:
Half-Life (episode) 3 - I had a strong love of the first two games. I'd like to tell myself that I wouldn't care if HL3 or episode 3 were released, but I'd be lying. It's a shame that Valve's shifted priorities have caused this game to go into Limbo. I think it's more than likely never going to be released.

Not a game:
Agni's Philosophy - was never really billed as a game, but more of a tech demo, but I've always wished it were a full blown game.

Upcoming unreleased Games:
Cyberpunk 2077 - Hopefully CDPR is putting in good on this, I loved the teaser and can't wait to see how they build out this world. I was actually a bit disappointed in Witcher 3, but I think a lot of that comes with a waning interest in the Fantasy genre.

Yeah I'm really hoping Death Stranding incorporates somethings from this into the game. I really want these exo/mechs.

The Final Fantasy XII Sequel project. I believe it was codenamed Fortress. I wonder if excellent remaster and remake sales would trigger new sequels for past FF games, including VII, X and even XII...

My answer is almost always going to be Rainbow 6: Patriots.I thought the target gameplay looked really engaging, and the possibility of a more gut-wrenching system of choices while taking tactical fighting to the streets of NYC was a lot more interesting than people gave it credit for. I'm hoping someone eventually digs into what the game was supposed to be before it got canned, and whether or not the interesting bits of it were sanded down to make the game more accessible.

What Bethesda did with Prey 2 is one of the most legitimately scummy things I've ever seen a publisher do. The history of that game is beyond frustrating, and Prey 2 still looks like one of the most interesting games that could be released today, but never will.

Silent Hills was so anticipated after PT. As a Silent Hill fan that endured nearly a decade of dreck, to see the fanbase so alive and optimistic for the first time in ages... only to watch Konami just implode from within before it could be realized.

Shout-outs to Starcraft: Ghost and the unreleased Warcraft Adventures game.

It's a shame Prey 2 turned into Bioshock in Space. Probably be solid but when new IP and ideas are slim pickings, it hurts more.

The N64 version of Mother 3, and the original concept for Street Fighter 3 before it was stripped apart and stuck to SF2 to make Super Street Fighter 2.

God dammit this looks so good...

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
Miyamoto's Cabbage. I don't think they've shown any videos or photos but a ton of games cannibalizes ideas and gameplay from it, including Pikmin and Animal Forest. Apparently there's still other ideas being picked off of it (over 15 years old now!)

Eight Days was a strange one that got cancelled with how close it was to release.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDOZvKWXDP4

First Assault was ok looking, Battlefront just seems head and shoulders above. I kind of hope that they add a story DLC before Battlefront 2

The thing that sucked about 1313 the most was that the game director went to SOny after it's cancellation and we've seen nothing similar to 1313 since and that was like two years ago at this point.

It is still Resident Evil 3.5 (castle/fog version) for me. Coming off of REmake, this seemed to mark the series at its darkest/scariest and it was probably the most excited I've ever been for a game. So I was really bummed out that things ended up going in the complete opposite direction, even if the final version of RE4 is an amazing game in its own right.

I would have loved to have seen how that game would have turned out.

resi3.5_2-e1385044663238.jpg

This so much. All content 3.5 related, from the Castle ver. to the Hookman ver. to even the unreleasted Zombie ver. all intrigue me to this day... Would love for a leak of anything to happen in the future, but that's wishful thinking on my end

SSM's Game.
Star Wars 1313

Oooh, yeah, I hope some day we see some production work from SCE Santa Monica's Stig project, that would be rad.

Also lost at SSM, anything of David Jaffe/Incog's PSP project Homeland would be awesome. We know a little about the design of the project, but we never really saw what (if anything) was working with "Project HL".

The Sadness

WWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. I DO remember that. Forgot all about it until seeing it ITT. At least Limbo managed to sort of give us the feel of that The Sadness's artwork and turned out to be a fantastic game.
