Super Smash Bros. Community Thread |OT| Next Super Smash Bros. Discussion

Sooooo after playing 3DS I wasn't satisfied and I picked up four controllers and Smash and a Wii U in the face of recalls.

God help me I can't wait to see it in full glory, my last real exposure was Melee.

(Got Mario 3D World, Pikmin, and Wind Waker as well gaaaah)

After this presentation, I guess 2 more characters, some 3DS content, & BotW Mii Costumes wouldn't be that bad of an upgrade after all.

Yeah, but after seeing how people reacts with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so people wouldn't be happy regardless the choices they made.

The Switch presentation was a massive letdown for several reasons, but ARMS looks interesting. I'm pleasantly surprised to see a new character-based first-party IP so soon after Splatoon.

sakurai plz

I really like the designs and how colorful that franchise was, but I have a feeling the character is more likely ended up being Assist Trophy.

Top tier snake codecs > palutena's guidance > low tier snake codecs

Would have loved both

Yeah, that would be cool but imagine Callie and Marie doing their gimmick on certain characters.

Snake's Codecs had more personality and the outsider angle added another layer to their humor. Palutena's Guidances, albeit not without their moments, get dragged down by a weird insistence to dish out battle tips played straight (doesn't help that so many are just "Reflect the attack back!") and by Palutena herself coming off as watered down from her much quirkier Uprising self. Viridi is the true starlet of these.

iirc the writing of localized Uprising is vastly different from the original one

That's right.

"[The Japanese script] is something that takes advantage of the nuances of Japanese conversation, and not all of it works directly in English," Sakurai said. "We had NOA handle the localization, and I told them to change the meaning and content as much as they want - that I wanted conversations that sound natural and enjoyable to a native speaker."

What I've heard from folks who know their Japanese and played the original version and the localized one is that both more or less share the same sense of humor; differing wordplay and punchlines sure, but following the same vein of goofyness and characterizations. So I think that Palutena would be tame compared to her Japanese Uprising self too.

Seeing as Source Gaming also backed up the rumor of the Miiverse stage being gone, it's likely that their report of 2 additional characters, BotW Mii Costumes, & 3DS content was also legit.

I'm not sure if he got it right about Intelboy being a website that leak Switch accessory because I'm pretty sure that it was other website.

"All the classic characters from the series" is waaaaaaaaaay too good to be true.

Plz snake

I don't know why they decided to change the descriptions but I presume they want to include 3DS since it would make sense to have all veterans from Smash 3DS and Wii U.

Shouldn't this be a separate thread?

I'm still not sure right now. I meant it's coming from a site who just put up Smash for Switch today, like few days after they put up Super Mario Frost Land and Assassin Creeds Egypt. It's sticky situation.

I think everyone else is referring to Miiverse as a service, not the stage.

Here's an easy way to decide, did either of those listings have a description like Smash Switch does?

Maturity, bitches.
A new thread that tells us what exactly? That Smash is coming to Switch? We already know.

Note the phrase is "new thread for new news".

So it seems like the two big rumors atm are it's either a new game that's using wiiU as a base or it's a enhanced port hitting this summer. Which one is more likely?

I think it has to do with the amount of new content. Splatoon 2 is being treated as a proper sequel despite clearly being built off of the original game.

Fair point. So kind of like Madden or CoD, that use the same engine but build a new game based on it? I guess that would work.

I do hope though that there will be more than the rumoured 2 newcomers in that case, seems kinda weak for a whole new sequel.

But Splatoon is different because of the nature of the game.

Only way Smash could get away with not being called an enhanced port is... uh, can't think of anything haha. They'd need to add an absurd amount of characters, stages and modes for that to happen. Fighting games tipically get enhancements so there's no need to make a Smash 5. An enhanced Smash 4 would suffice I believe.

Yeah it would definitely depend on the amount of characters and stages added to the game. The whole only two new characters would have me considering if I should even bother. Especially if Smash switch would change the controller support.

Though I feel like if that's all they were doing, they would have announced it at the direct. Since that's easy hype. So personally I don't buy the enhanced port and only two characters rumor.

I can see it being called smash switch and offering enough content to make it justifiable.

Also, I managed to get a moderator to unlock the Prediction Thread, so feel free to adjust the list (like Bomberman or Arms character)

I think some people who owned Smash 4 for 3DS or Wii U and DLC probably would agreed with you there. I found out that most people I know aren't interested to pick up Smash for Switch if the rumor is true about two characters only and it received only minimal contents.

They doesn't really want to waste their money on the game for two characters. Even couple of people said they don't really want to pay 30 dollars per (two) characters since they don't really care about stages or anything else. Even Sakurai acknowledged that characters are the source that would bring the excitement to the franchise.

That's why I felt that we are in sticky situation with Smash for Switch and it's hard to predict what would happens.

Yeah, if it's about as "extensive" as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, then Smash Switch is not going to move nearly as many units as it could.

It'll need at least 4 or so new characters to be doing well, I think. And I do mean newcomers, not veterans - those should also be added though, at the very least ICs should be brought back. That said, if they can bring back Snake as well, he would be a strong enough name to take one of the newcomer spots.

Ideally, I think it should be:
4-5 newcomers (or Snake), and bringing back Ice Climbers, Wolf and Pichu.

And so our overall proposition will not look the same as our competitors. But what we will do, is we will recognize what consumers like about our competitors, we will look to do it in a way that has a Nintendo flair to it. And we will look to make sure that in the end, we've got this robust, online environment that not only works well for our games, like Splatoon and Mario Kart and Smash Bros., but that also works great for our third party developers.

It's not surprising that Smash Bros is in works for Switch tho.
