Thanks for the view from the console war trenches but the rational explanation is they tried it and it didn't break as many games as they originally thought.

pretty much this ^

Also the last major update was in Aug/Sep, so it pretty obvious that Pro mode for old games wasn't ready in time.

This is truly a game changer, let's just hope the Beta period is not too long! How long are these things in Beta normally?

Can't wait for Digital Foundry to do a thorough comparison.

I seem to remember the last Beta, the final was rolled out within a month of the beta...

nice. curious about SSD now
Me too. I was about to buy an internal 2TB SSHD, but now I'm wondering if small internal SSD for current games and big external drive for everything else might be the way to go.

Somebody please do a detailed Project CARS before/after analysis in different weather. Performance on the vanilla PS4 is pretty good in clear weather with minor dips and tearing. I'm hoping the Pro beta version is now a sixty lock with zero tearing in clear weather, but fully expect some issues to remain in stormy weather.
Just wait for Digital Foundry, they love testing Project Cars because they can load the exact same race data and compare identical gameplay across the different hardware. It'll be one of the first Boost mode tests they do, I'm sure :)

The mindless flying around without any physics whatsoever looks extremely lame and silly. Wow, weird game.

Nice framerate though I guess.

I guess yo haven't played in this series, This game has some of the best destruction in open world game. and the flight thingy is fun too once you starting chaining it.
The Gameplay is the king here , try it if you can , you will not be disappointed .

This is so awesome. Like getting a new videocard.

Any other Witcher 3 videos in area other than the swamp?

It's such a fun game. Not every game needs to be serious and grounded in "reality".

Quick question, are external HDDs supported in 4.50 beta 2? If yes how do I get mine recognized by my PS4?

EDIT: nevermind, I just changed the USB port and it got recognized right away

I postponed my PS4 purchase for over six months for this exact feature. Was a little bit disappointed when the pro actually didn't perform better in post-pro games when I bought it. This update seems awesome. A bit curious how it impacts the warranty, regarding temperatures.

So has any other Musou games been tested bar Dragon Quest Warriors (which sounds like its running much better now). Like Warriors Orochi 3 or Dynasty Warriors 8. As they have unlocked frame rates I'm hoping both will be much smoother compared to before.

I just checked Shadow Warrior.
Still, not perfect but is far more stable framerate. Much more pleasing to the eye.
During intense fight scenes game looks like is closer to stable 60 fps. On PS4 Amateur you've got 30 fps during fights and inconsitent 60 fps during roaming through levels.
PS4 Beast mode is simply killer.

That's great to hear. I'll probably do a replay soon then. I love the game but the frame rate/tearing was annoying in places.

Sorry to be 'that guy' - soooo many pages to go through...

The Division - has the frame rate improved in the intensive areas where it would slow down? I know it is a 30fps target, but i'd be happy if it was a solid 30fps.

I am SO gutted I never signed up for the Beta this time round :(

As an Xbox One owner I'm getting jealous of PS4 owners.
PS4 Pro owners you mean :p
As a PS4 owner I'm jealous of PS4 Pro owners. :/
But XB1 owners can taste the same thing later this year anyways, it' sucks that the 3 year old box I thought would last 7 years feels totally outdated but it's awesome that consoles are now on par with PCs and I could safely buy multiplats on console instead of PC again.

Temps are fine with Pro modes, why should boost have a negative impact?

Division had a Pro patch, so this firmware update won't do anything to help it. It'll only work on games that have no Pro patches.

Hearing that Yakuza 0 plays a bit faster in boost mode worries me. Sounds like that glitchy stuff that happens when you force a locked FPS open on certain PC ports.

Switching boost mode on and off just works right? No need to restart the console or anything?

That sounds like placebo about the game animations running faster. The 60 fps cap in Yakuza 0 is the same on both.

I've heard you have to reboot the game, but haven't tried it myself yet.
That sounds about right. I'm just curious if anyone has run into any bugginess where it's flipped off and yet it still seems like it's pushing the boost. Just don't want to get sucked into hyper drive Yakuza 0 and not be able to jump out. I got into the beta just haven't messed around with boost yet so after hearing the Yakuza stuff I'm a little apprehensive.

Good to hear. I'll have to pop boost mode on and try it for myself. Just didn't want to flip it on for a bit and have it mess with any beatdown goodness.

Call me abit out of the loop about this one. But before games who didnt got a patch didnt use the extra power of the Pro? But now with the boost update they do?

I can already see the comments section going up in flames because they already get a lot of flak for focusing on playstation.

No reason not to have a major focus on the market leader who just released a new console.

I don't know the exact work the console do but basically yeah. The game you have as avatar runs smoother for example.

Isnt that abit odd? I mean a Xbox One S runs games abit faster already then a normal Xbox One because of the slighty better CPU. Didnt need a patch or a boost for that. Why does the Pro need a patch of boost update for that?

Somthing somthing... half assed upgrade... somthing somthing

Seriously, this is great news all around.

That upclocked jaguar seems to be putting in the work. A lot of crow to be eaten in some circles.

DF comparisons will be glorious.
