NieR: Automata |OT| "I wouldn't expect too much from this game if I were you."

Just seems like that to me. Don't read too much into it (please :( )

Just a question.. does it happen w/ every boss or only the first area. Haven't died yet but I did get Ending H:
After visiting Pascal's village that huge Assault happens in city ruins. Tried to go to the Amusement Park zone and because 2B and 9S didn't arrive soon enough, YoRHa got wiped out to the brink of extinction and lost the war. Cue quick roll credits. Now it says Endings: H on my save.

Is this some inside joke, or...

I've never played Nier, but am really looking forward to trying this.

For whatever reason, if you die in the beginning level of the game or whatever, you have to start the whole thing over. It's not so much a Nier thing as something that's irking some of the people here. Personally if it's too much of an issue, I'd probably just put it on Easy and blaze through said level first.

Douchebag. Yes, me.
I was just fighting the (early game)
opera boss and the game seems to have crashed? It went onto the stage, then fired off a big blast. Then the sound stopped and all the screen is showing is my lock on bars and the red Cross hair- no input does anything. Is this a crash or is it some weird fourth wall thing I'm supposed to figure out?

Gotcha. I edited in that it resembles the Asylum Demon in DS.

This is no issue. Looking forward to this game.

So that stuck game glitch when starting a game before it's fully downloaded, did that happen to people with the HK version too?

nvm

Still not like that, though..because NieR's first boss isn't optional.

You aren't "supposed" to die.. you have to beat it to progress.

how are the enemies ?? are they just a statue that shoots balls with no melee attacks like in the demo ? are they all the same boring design ?

what about the bosses ? are they just about dodging their balls ?

does the controller vibrate or it's like the demo ?

How are its stats compared to what you currently have? Can it be upgraded too?

All weapons can be upgraded to level 4.

That sounds like a bug indeed. Did not had that experience when i was doing the boss

They had melee attacks in the demo. They have mostly variations of those but also other types of enemies.

They all have their unique thing, it's not all about dodging their balls no.

does the controller vibrate or it's like the demo ?

Option in the settings.

the prologue is extremely annoying if you're playing on Very Hard (1 hit > game over > start from the opening), otherwise it's not really that much of an issue.

I'm aware that you don't need to evade > weapon swap to do an aerial launcher. as I stated in my initial reply to your post with move details. What's new (to me) will depend on the conditions behind how a ground dash heavy is performed in the air.

I remember seeing a video on nico where the launcher used is sword heavy hold (stab into uppercut) that still allowed for aerial launcher. I believe there was a weapon swap for that one. I couldn't find it so I will go home to try to reproduce it on the demo. That's what i meant by counter launcher not being a pre-requisite. Alternatively, it can be interpreted as you have one standard launcher per airborne instance, so you need to launch with anything that's not jump+triangle.

Launcher after counter launcher appears to be intentional, but the maneuver behind aerial ground moves is definitely not. It is very noticeable because it's obviously a ground only move, and in a couple of instances, he follows with a pod beam finisher, and the animation for 2b was noticeably delayed compared to when the beam was fired.

I will refrain from posting theorycraft is that is a problem. I didn't mean to imply what I said as facts, merely that it's worth looking into. My apologies.

is this closer to Bayonetta than MGR ??

i disliked Bayonetta, mostly because you keep fighting the same boss at least 3 times which makes it repetitive and boring, not to mention one of the worst main character of all time

MGR's combat is still unmatched to this day, when i played it i wished if God of War had the same gameplay with all that gore

Well first of all, this is an RPG, not a typical action game.

The gameplay is actually something in between bayonetta and MGR. You do play an android so several aspects of it are reminiscent of MGR.

It's not as good as MGR IMO, but it's pretty decent. But I think this doesn't have the things you hate about Bayonetta. That being said, if you hate the demo, the game, while having more content, is still very close to that.

i never played the original game so can someone explain to me how the world of Nier works ?

is it another typical open world game with repetitive side quests ?
is there co-op ?
are the bosses mostly machines ?
how long is the game if i skipped the side quests ??
is it grindy like most japaneese open world games ?

I had to stop playing right after I got it but at a glance it wasn't better than my upgraded weapons. It also didn't seem like it had the XV visual effects like it did in the trailer. I'll look into the weapon more when I play later tonight.

Someone who has finished all major endings, please help meeeee

I'm now at the post credits of Ending E and am asked to delete my savegame like in the original NieR. Is this the last major story ending or did i missed something? I feel like i'm at least missing one ending that requires me to collect all weapons, since that was a staple in all Taro games

This is a stand alone game, it has little in common with the first Nier.

I'm sort of forced to say "yes" but I think it's because you ask the wrong question. The game isn't exactly working as "open world". Just see it as maps that have no loading times. It's not an open world like GTA or anything like that. And the gameplay is very action oriented.

is there co-op ?

no.

are the bosses mostly machines ?

Yes, but they are not similar machines, they're pretty unique... Also... You *do* play as a machine. So that means you can end up fighting pretty different stuff. From transformers to maybe people like you.

how long is the game if i skipped the side quests ??

This is a game that has different paths and story bits hidden and demand more than one playthrough, but keep in mind you can skip cutscenes and keep your stuff for the new playthroughs.

The length on Hard Mode is about 10 hours for a first run. To get a full version of the story and characters playable you basically get 20 to 25 hours, with little sidequests in the mix.

is it grindy like most japaneese open world games ?

Yes and no. Player skill can make up for "lack of levels" in this. If you're bad at it though you have to get better parts and abilities, yes.

i think all weapon thing is also required here,I saw a screenshot of some guy having almost all ending except ending f which is probably tied to this

well that was disappointing, if the game scores below 80 i will probably delay it for months especially that it come out near Horizon and Zelda( my GOTY, hopefully)

when it comes to difficulty in action RPG games, i have no problem, the guys at the Nioh thread know me very well and are aware of my high skills

Believes Dragon Quest is a franchise managed by Sony
Based on what i've seen of the game so far, i think it will hit an 80 to 85 meta. Easily Yoko Taro's most distinguished and polished work, and the story it tell is very poignant without having to info dump for those who didn't play the original

It's gonna get reviewed after "Horizon" so the game might get murdered by many people just for the technical side.

But so was the first nier that is now considered a cult classic.

I'd recommend just playing the demo and watching one or two video of the game. That can give you a much better idea :) .

I'm so scared to continue now, i've just looked up the screenshot and there MUST be an Ending F that requires you to collect all weapons. It can't be any other way.

That said, do we know how to get all weapons? I've around 70% of them

i played the Demo, i find to be an Okay game, but i haven't played a Hack and Slash game in a very long time and Nier 2 is my only option

the gameplay was fast and awesome, i don't mind the bad graphics

but what i didn't like was the enemies, their design is terrible and they just stand there doing nothing but shooting balls that can easily be dodged

also the controller does not vibrate when you attack which is a huge turn off for me, did they fix that in the full game ??

Damn, was not expecting Kaine / Salvation at the end of Emil's Lunar Tear quest. I never played the first Nier but I did listen to the soundtrack, and this is one of my favorites.

Quick questionr regarding a sidequest. It's called "Half-wit Inventor", I'm going to put the rest in spoiler tags:

Does anyone know how much money I have to invest in him? I just gave him like 29k and the quest still isn't done o_O

I don't remember the exact amount but it's something around 150-200K.

Do I get locked out of any quests after
the two Goliaths attack the city center
?

Debating if I should save to another slot or not.

Majority of them should carry over I believe, but there may be a few I don't know about.

Yeah agreed. 80-85 sounds about right. It is probably the most cohesive Taro's been in a game, additional thanks to Platinum, and the hybrid DNA is very strong even in the face of some shortcomings.

Ending E is the true ending.

But how can you be sure? ALL past Yoko Taro games have required to collect all weapons to get to the final ending.

And that one screenshot floating around on the internet is suspiciously missing an F of all letters of the alphabet.

JESUS christ o_O Is it at least one of those side quests I can save for the end of the game? I heard a few of them get cancelled at different points during the story.

All quests get cancelled at different points during the story, tho this one has some time to be completet iirc.

Can I still complete quests like
Sartre's, The Wandering Couple,
and others received during that part of the game after
the city is attacked by Goliaths
?

I don't remember being locked out of quests at that point already, tho i can't give a guarantee sicne i had finished this specific quest prior.
