Rachael Dolezal claims she's jobless and on food stamps

Malicious intentions maybe not... malicious results absolutely. Giving black men shit for dating white women, excluding a hispanic student because she didn't look hispanic enough... shit like that.

Wow, that's incredible she did that considering she was the one pretending to be black.

She's not black

If we are in an age of progressive identity transformation, why can't one change their appearance to be more in line with the race they might identify with? Curious on opinions - is it just a particular issue with this one lady?

This is a monkey paw wish if I've ever seen one.

"I wish I was black!"

*changes*

"How are white high school dropout ex-convict registered sex offenders getting jobs that I can't???"

One of the biggest things employer look for is integrity. Can I trust this person?

So I'm not surprised.

Even though she had a very public failure, she continues to pretend everything is fine.

Humble yourself, girl. Say you were wrong.

I barely followed this story back when it was big. Aside from pretending to be black, what did she do? Did she take advantage of people?

It's certainly a more complicated issue than people are making it out to be, you won't find a sensible answer here based on the last thread.

This thread was also terrible, op messed up making a direct comparison as they are not the the same thing at all. However I urge anyone truly interested in the matter to read a few books on colonisation effects in culture and identity.

Edit: Just to be clear I'm not defending her or her actions. I'm talking about the wider issue of racial identity.

I dont think that she did it, its that she hid it.

I mean there is even a discussion to be had for doing it for sure.

But the reason ppl react with anger is because she hid it and even when caught out keeps not apologizing.

And it like everything else aside you misled a lot of ppl for a long time yo

She has no integrity, period. She tried to co-op a very specific identifier: transracial, which is only applicable to those who are adopted by another race. Her own sibling (who is a transracial adoptee) called her out on that in an interview. She's never grown up in the foster care system, she's never been black, she doesn't get to use that term.

Then she attempted to conflate her masquerade with being transgender, which implies that trans people are lying about their own identity. She's stepping on actual minorities.

If she just said, I'm a white woman from the start, she'd still have her job at the NAACP, maybe still be a college professor, and wouldn't have garnered such a scathing opinion. I don't have any sympathy for her.

Remember that time the world bent over backwards trying to convince itself that this was called "transracialism" just so a single white woman could do whatever she wanted?

It's about to happen again.

Transracial is a valid term. It's not for a white woman who puts on blackface though. She and her supporters have misappropriated the term.

Racial identity is not something hard wired into people of color from birth. It's something that's been developed in Western countries primarily as a unique, wholly individual existence from "white America". You don't wake up feeling "wrong" like transgender people do because you identify more with black culture. That's not how any of this works.

Waking up feeling like your body is wrong is wholly different from being a walking talking Paul Mooney joke.

Cutting off this transracial whatever the hell nonsense at the pass.

Just so she could wear blackface and not have to apologize, really.

Is it identity or is it her putting on a costume? If she identifies with and has empathy for black people, why is professional black face the answer? Why deny an Hispanic student participation in a discussion about race for not looking Hispanic enough?

These and so many more questions. At best she comes across as tone deaf, as someone who reduces the experience of black women down to stereotypes about weaves.

Yup. As a white person she feels like she doesn't have a racial identity because she mistakenly doesn't recognize that Western culture treats whiteness as the default and elevates it. So she wants to appropriates someone else's identity because she can't fully come to terms with her own privilege.

ah, I knew this name sounded familiar.
Yet, she refuses to lead a low profile life for what reason? Why is she seeking the media again for attention?
Mindy Kaling's brother did the same thing but it wasn't as weird. Like, he acknowledges that he lied and stuff and came out with a book to tell his story, he's not living in some warped reality where he doesn't realize what he did was wrong.

Stunt for the book. She'd fallen off the radar until now, just about when her book is about to drop. (Also, wouldn't she have received $ from her book deal?)

Is she still acting like before? Because if so I just can't see any reason why people aren't hiring a white woman turning up to interviews with a perm and blackface. No, no reason at all...

Well iirc she was "acting black", for one. There may some day be acceptable forms of transrace identity, but it won't be Dolezal.

As for the arguments against the concept of transrace, they kind of sound like the same arguments as those against transgenderism.

I think if you have a certain physical complexion, it can come off as inherently obnoxious for one to change their appearance, make themselves look darker to identify with a different race if naturally he/she doesn't look like that.

IIRC she also claimed her younger, adopted brother was being abused by their parents in order to win custody of him. And then started referring to him as her son.

What a piece of garbage. Who'd believe a single thing she has to say?

White people, clearly, because after the initial controversy and people having to explain why the subjective societal classifications of ancestry ain't the same shit as fucking gender, it's like it's never happened at all, and we have people in this thread toying around with the idea that maybe there's something to this trailblazing white woman who just wants to help.

Nevermind the audacity of people implying there's nothing wrong with pretending to be black for personal gain. "Aside from that, what did she do?" Fuck you mean? In this slice of racist-ass time, you think there's nothing inherently offensive of a white woman putting on some bronzer and weave like that shit's cool when black people have never been allowed to simply take the advantages of white society as they please?

Are y'all for real right now?

I don't get how people ever even thought she was black. She seemed to just look like she was covered in fake orange tan like Donald Trump. I don't think she ever had any malicious intentions though did she? Just seems like a deeply confused person to me.

Somehow this came up recently in a meatspace discussion, and some of us attributed it to basically just in-grouping. Taken on her own I don't think a lot of people would say Dolezal was black, but if she's in a bunch of photos with a variety of black people I think it's easier to mentally associate her as black. You could throw a bunch of blond women together who look different separately, but once together people tend to see them as some identical monolithic group.

It's like how very light-skinned black people managed to pass as white in American history.

"Identifying" with a different gender isn't simply somebody deciding they'd rather be the opposite sex. There are many factors that make it not even a choice for the other person. I have a hard time believing that there is some genetic predisposition within Rachael that innately makes her "identify as black." Races are a social construct, sexes are not.

If she doesn't learn to lean into her whiteness under republican rule we can probably say she's clinically insane.

Her story was some the biggest Bulls hit I ever seen. The privilege was cosmic that people wanted so much to hear the black experience from a white woman so bad.

But to her black people, was on some watermelon eating, shuck and jiving nonsense.

Tell her to move to South Africa

We have BEE (Black Economic Empowerment), which is basically the governments way of helping black people enter the job market

Educated black woman are #1 on the list for potential hires here
This is a pretty good idea. She should move there and get citizenship. Then she could finally and officially be African American.

Let's go back to a simpler time, when you see her process every lie she's ever told, realize she had been caught and her soul dies between 8:22 and 8:37.

That reporter was an apex troll and should get an award. The whole interview and he knew she wasn't shit. His voice going up. 'This yo dad?'

perhaps i'm not fully understanding your point but if race isn't real then racism wouldn't be real and racism is definitely real
what?

I mean she did criticize black men for dating white women which is just lol

This is some Clayton Bigsby shit. Her ex-husband is black...

CHAPPELLE_01_0101_KLAN_640x360.jpg

I'm imagine Kent Wallace asking why and her response being "Because he's a white girl lover"

I know making a divorce the butt of a joke is in bad taste, but the situation is too ridiculous

I mean she's got a book coming out which is way more than a lot of people have. I can't find any sympathy at the moment.

And I'm sorry but that shit about politicians is fumb as fuck. No politician could come back from blackface no matter how many times they apologized lol.

There is science to back the transgender stuff while there is nothing to backup this transrace bullshit.

Have to add there is such a thing as transracial, when a kid is adopted to a family with a different ethnicity. The other thing is bullshit though
