I'm now in chapter 14 at the part where
the assassin shoots you and takes away your boss.
how many hours until I finish the game?

Around 5-6 hours I'd say if you only focus on the main story. Save a 2-3 hours session for the last chapter, it's quite long and you cannot save till the very end

Thanks for the warning. Looks like Zelda will have to wait until next week.

Make sure your inventory is chock full of restorative items before going for the final mission ( you'll know when it's the final mission).

Why do people harbor such a hatred towards Dead Souls? It's a fun spin-off game, very chintzy, story's completely non-investing, but it's awesome for the sake of a great burn-through game.

Screw Fantasy Zone truly the way shit gets me is so dumb most of the time.
Are big wings the first mandatory purchase?

I just go with missiles and 7 way directional shot. Makes short work of the high score CP requirement. Its even easier if this version of Fantasy Zone has a rapid fire option for controls (think it might be mapped to R1? - Yakuza 6 had this option and it made the game a relative cakewalk, managed to get to stage 7-8 I think on one credit).

I guess a big problem for me is how big it is, considering it's a game that feels almost completely fan-service.

Granted, it does a great job at that, but as a GAME it just falls short.

I still consider it a must-play for fans of the series in general though, so many fun and terrific moments. That karaoke ...

Guess I have to wait until I can play on the TV, I either can't find the rapid fire button on the vita or it just doesn't work. The fastest I can fire is spamming circle. If I hold it it's noticeably slower. The 7 directional shot costs 5k gold not something I can manage within the first stage currently without defeating the boss problem is really I lose 2 lives in the first stage to dumb shit. Guess I just got to stick with it.

Unlocked the real estate stuff for Kiryu, is this a side quest I can practically finish right now, without moving on with the main story? I was gonna ignore it, but now I kinda feel like amassing businesses and becoming a billionaire lol

e: also, how long in real time does it take to collect payments? Around 10 minutes, maybe?

Any advice for Space Harrier?

Any advice for Space Harrier?

I think for me just moving a shit ton helped because it feels like the game is programmed so obstacles will frequently spawn and crowd around you making it impossible to just always dodge at last second if you stay in a single position on the screen too long the longer the games goes on.
So the way it became way easier for me is is moving frantically from left to right in the later stages in rectangle when unbreakable obstacles also appear frequently on top.

Guess because I play lots of retro games I'm more used to the higher difficulty of the arcade games, usually I don't aim to lose any lives on the first couple of levels of Fantasy Zone or Space Harrier, that way I have a stock of lives for later levels where it gets harder.

Any advice for Space Harrier?

Never stay in one place, enemies will shoot at where you were, so as long as your moving they won't hit you. Stay off the ground, keep in mind you can shoot trees, clouds etc. so I usually fly around the top half of the screen. Memorise the enemy attack patterns in the early levels so you know what each are capable of, and play around with the controls - analog stick and D Pad each have your character control slightly differently so use whichever suits you best. Also keep in mind that the triangle button inverts the Y axis controls.

I think any of the Space Harrier challenge scores can be achieved by clearing world 5 (the bonus stage), killing bosses gets you more health as opposed to letting them disappear, the second boss is a pain as the enemies shielding the boss will fly away as soon as you kill the central enemy so try to leave him until last if you can.

So how exactly do I aim for mangan, haneman and riichi ippatsu. I managed to get the other mahjong stuff with the basic understanding of trying to build some kind of hands like in poker(basically just randomly matching sets to the best of my ability and trying to predict what tiles might come like when I see 2 red dragon discarded already and I have 1 on my hand I discard it). But I don't really understand the scoring.

I never knew how much of this game bled into me until just now as I played the Project Diva demo. I swear I could hear Kiryu clapping his hands and saying stupid things as he usually does in karaoke as the buttons appear.

Speaking of which, Sega needs to do a Project Diva spinoff for the karaoke songs in the series. With Miku singing Bakamitai.

That's a side-thing.

I know it's a side thing, what I meant was that can I complete it in full during chapter 5, or are some later parts story progression locked.

Conquered the first area, and it doesn't look like there are any locks? I'm really starting to get into this lol.

I don't think there's anywhere in the real estate quest that relies on an area that is locked by the story.

Chapter 8 now. Wasn't expecting to have to
fight Lee again
. Felt like they just needed to add a boss to the end of Ch 7. Still don't quite understand why
Makoto has to die
and
who killed her "body double" and why they are doing it

Actually, completion of the Gambling King quest is locked behind a event in Chapter 6.

Well, if it's just the next chapter, might as well get there before I fully invest in this stuff. What's the event?

Also - fuck getting three strikes in a row. I don't need Nugget.
:'(

You can't finish it until you get a specific ability.

Edit: should have read the thread sorry.

Riichi is an option you can declare when you are one tile (including ones you draw/or steal) away from having a winning hand, and it locks your hand so you're stuck with it. Ippatsu is if you get that winning tile immediately the turn after you declared Riichi. Mangan is a 5 point hand, Haneman is a 6 point hand, I'm no expert but basically...

If you ONLY need those, you build up points with things like:

  • Riichi (+1)
  • Iipatsu (+1)
  • Having Fully Concealed Hand (+1) (You don't steal so your pair isn't revealed)
  • Having triplets of Dragons (+1)
  • Having a combination with the Dora tile (+? pts) (the tile shown in the middle +1, meaning if it shows 1 of dots, you have a hand like 2-3-4 of dots, I believe it gives you as many as you have Dora tiles, so Triplet of 2 of dots in this case might give you +3?)
  • More points are given for rarer hand combinations:
    • Having 3 triplets in a winning hand
    • All pairs of two
    • Flush
    • Other shit I don't know and are probably better seen in the hands/rules ingame

Very Lttt. Just wanted to thank Yakuza-Gaf for hyping the series with Gifs and threads since last year. Bought the game day one because of this and I'm still blown away.

I love nearly every char in this game. Marina is my waifu <3. Kuze is one bad mofo. And doll girl is the cutest thing ever.
Oh, and "party"-button music is now one of my favourite gaming music tracks of all time.

There is nothing more satisfying than beating the crap out of your foes with one heat action after another, especially when using
Nunchucks.

Btw, props to SEGA for the Genesis joke
during Haruki's training.
I laughed so hard...

There was one particular moment when I finally realized that this is gaming divineness:
pulling a great white out of the water in the fishing game

I loved this part too but it wouldn't have made sense for them to talk about how great and exciting the Mega Drive was. The Mega Drive barely took off in Japan and at that time the only thing that mattered was the Famicom. If a Japanese person was interested in anything else it was either game centers, PCs, or the PC Engine. The Mega Drive was far in the back of their minds if at all.

First Yakuza game for me. Just played the first hour, and I'm intrigued. Excruciatingly slow opening 45 mins, but I like the story hook. Is it feasible to just to a straight story run? Will I be underleveled? I have too many games to play to worry about side content, hahaha.

It's possible just to do a straight story run without doing a lot of the extra content if you keep your inventory stocked with health items at all times and a few upgrades. Many of the substories in this game are too good to ignore in my opinion but you can always go back and do them in Premium Adventure mode after you beat the game I guess.

You can but the substories and side stuff gives you a nice break from the serious tone that the main story has. Also some of the best moments in the game are from the side stories.

Part of the joke was that I chose the "obvious" answer and they turned it into a joke, bravo!

Holy shit is the pocket circuit race against Fighter bullshit or what. Everything so far has been easy, this is just ridiculous.

Do I gotta do this to get the pocket circuit arena property?

By far the biggest negative with this game is the fact that everything is so clunky and slow. Walking/running around you get stuck all the time, clicking through dialogue is slow, clicking through menus is usually slow.. Particularly egregious in situations like this, where I keep going through the same menus again and again.

No, just maxing the friendship is enough.

Yeah I thought I would never get him but at least the way I found to cheese it was really easy.

I think the strategy I saw in this thread and used to great effect was to slide all the way over to one side, then aim just to the outside of the front pin, and spin towards the side you're on a tiny bit depending on power and how far off the middle pin you are. Your goal is to try and smack the front pin off center, basically the pocket between the front pin and the closer of the two pins behind it.

The hilarious bit is I managed to get a turkey without any tricks several chapters before Nugget unlocked, but then had to resort to the trick after a few ten-frame games where I hit two strikes in a row once the turkey competition started.

All right I didn't save and now I can't for the life of me keep that
Michael Jackson guy
in the substory alive. I can't do it. It's 1:30am and I've been stuck for 30 minutes straight and I gotta wake up in 6:30h lol.

I'm using the brawler style btw.

Change it to easy then.

Finally, after 10 Thousand Years I'm free, I escaped from Infinite Mahjong hell and achieved Platinum!

Ugh, trying for the Platinum seems like it would be more work than I'm willing to put into this game despite really going out of my way with some of these side activities and stories. How many hours did you put into it?

Im currently doing the Cabaret Club thing and that song that plays in the makeover screen has been stuck in my head all day. The music in this game has been so good.

I tend to have fully upgraded my styles pretty much by the time I hit the end of the game so maybe I was much more powerful but I don't recall getting stuck on this boss when I fought him, just used counter attacks, heat moves and had a few healing items and all went well for me.
