With South Park being delayed, EA wanted to take the opportunity to give us the first comedy of the year.

Not sure what's weird about this one? She attacks him, but looks away like anybody would in that situation and he headbutts her shoulder making her fall on the table with cocaine on it

Nearly burst out laughing like a fool at work because of this post.

Looking at horizon, that game seems to certainly have had some animation problems for npcs involved with side quests, but mass effect andromeda just has bioware face problems all over the place. At least in horizon when the animation was bad the faces looked great.

I hesitate to badmouth a game before release, and especially before I've personally played it, and especially in a place like NeoGAF where developers can see my comments.

So I'll just say wow. I'm still keeping my preorder and looking forward to playing this on release day... but wow.

DA:I used a lot of canned, standard Bioware animations. The animations here are a combination of serious inverse kinematics (from FIFA, apparently) and new animations which... could do with work lol.

Andromeda also uses the exact same 10-year old standard animations from ME1-3:

Yea I just watched the romance video and surprisingly they're reusing a shit ton of animations from the original trilogy:

I'm enjoying the humor but that Ashley comparison just makes me mad. I've really enjoyed this series and Andromeda looks so clearly below any reasonable expectation that I'm beyond disappointed. Now I want a real, 2017-level Mass Effect game and I'm a good three years at best from that, judging by some of the stuff in this thread.

I can believe I almost preordered. "Never preorder" validated.

I honestly think I'm over games trying so hard to look so naturally realistic. It's just too fucking eerie and vapid. There just so little nuance to it. Give me a caricature over this shit any day of the week.

I'd much prefer if developers focused more on the interactive elements (shocking) rather than blank slate humanoid appearances.

I hear you. It's more a matter of not being able to ignore how bad some of it is. But yeah, I am still excited to play it as well.

Squeezing out a fart?

"squeezing out a fart" seems to describe way too many attempts at facial expression so far.

I honestly don't even care that much about the general body animation jank, but I'm kind of shocked at the faces and facial animation in this game. How have they not done anything about the eyes in particular? I feel like even the most basic attempt of feedback collection would have pointed out how unnatural they currently look on all the human / asari characters. Even the default main character models have creepy looking eyes.

I think we've been spoiled by great animation in games lately that this all stands out. Imagine if Naughty Dog made a Savage Starlight game that was effectively Mass Effect...

On one hand, I preordered just for the multiplayer in hopes that it's as good as ME3's. On the other hand this is making me want to cancel. At least it was only $45 on GMG.

When I keep saying that I think the Trilogy looked better in this regard, so many fans keep telling me it was just nostalgia and to replay the games.

I point out that I AM replaying ME1 right now and my wife just wrapped up ME3 last month, so it's fresh in our minds, and so many keep telling me that I'm just having selection bias.

... No, no, I think the game from 10 years ago looks better with dialogue animation, by far.
Even the actual aliens and androids acted more human.

Makes sense, the team that made Mass Effect 1 and 2 left during or before the development of the third one, and the team that made Mass Effect 3 left during Inquisition. Bioware is just a name at this point and has little to no ties to the classics it is known for.

Maybe he meant to go for the shoulder and not a headbutt? I'm just assuming.

Doesn't matter, it's just horrible. The (lack of) facial animation and the bad kinematics. It's like the gif where Ryder pushes that asari off of her, there's no sense of motion at all. Am I to believe she does it just moving her arm, not activating any other muscles in her body?

This if where I stand. Was hoping single player was worth it as well too. Guess I'll wait for reviews.

Multiplayer is good, its getting an all round praises from everywhere and if you read the Ea Access thread, you will get the actual impression from the gamers currently playing the game.SO i think you are good on that Front.(yes they said its an improved version of ME3 Model)

The craziest thing is how easy this would have been to fix. All they had to do was darken the iris and increase the iris size. That's all I've done to the following image and she all of a sudden doesn't look completely insane.

Could they theoretically patch the eyes in this game? Because if they can do that, I suggest they get someone on it asap.

Thankfully they have a community of people who can show them what actual eyes on human beings look like.

Wrong. Frostbite 3 is just a bad engine for such a game. It is great for Battlefield, but it is not the right choice for an RPG. They should have decided for Unreal Engine 4. Facial animations would look way better then.

came here to say this unreal 4 is a much better

I've never played any Mass Effect games and don't know shit about the series but man, these look stupid and shitty all at once.

How do walking animations this ridiculous even occur especially on their what...fourth game or whatever in the franchise? I mean it's funny to me because I have minus zero interest in ever playing this but sorry for the fans.

(Tales from my ass) The game was rushed and EA was tired of waiting after 5 years of probably bad project management or something.

I think it's all in the eyes. For most of the characters the iris is just really light making the whole eye look plastic and lifeless, kinda like dolls. Liam has dark eyes so he looks much more human than the rest.

I feel dumb for saying this but I'm not sure that I see what's so funny about these gifs:

I guess the joke about the second one is that Ryder's walking animation is robotic?

Problem is I don't think Ryder's walk looks anything like that or even at all robotic (at least not in this instance). I find the rest of the gifs hilarious though!

In the first one the person that walks behind the krogan just disappears.
