Dragon Quest Heroes II Is Downgraded On Nintendo Switch Compared To PS4 Version

The game wasn't a rushed launch port on the PS4 and the poster wasn't explicitly referring to that game. He means games with bad performance can be released in more powerful hardware. Ex: Some Unity games on PS4 perform bad despite not doing anything that would stress the hardware.

No, he is specifically referring to Dragon Quest Heroes II, the game this whole thread is about. He's wrong.

so now being "anchored" to an HD display is a negative?

what do you mean "a game like this"?

i played the previous DQ Heroes game and thought it was crazy fun, and it was so cool to finally see DQ graphics large in HD.

Yes, not having the ability to play this title on a plane train or automobile is definitely a negative compared to having the ability to play this title on a plane train or automobile.

Just like every PS4 game should be compared to the rushed ports it had at launch, amirite ?

Please, guys.

Perhaps in your speed to be defensive you made a mistake and put PS4 instead of PS3?
PS4 was pretty much rolling out of the gate.
PS3 on the other hand started with shaky ports

No, there were a bunch of bad ports at PS4 launch too. I was thinking about Dynasty Warriors 8 XTreme Complete Edition, more specifically, to compare with another musou.

I have little doubt that was sub optimal especially comopared to how later releases performed, but it was good enough to make me want to get the game.

Then again if this was our only option for DQH I'd probably go there too. Hell, if it were 30 fps solid I'd probably seriously consider that over the PS4 version (especially without a locked 60 there anyway), but at this point it seems more like PS4 + possible Pro upgrade in the future with its boost mode = PS4 is the clear version for me to go with.

EDIT: And I forget if I said this before, but my personal hope was PS3 fidelity but solid 30 FPS or close enough most of the time, maybe with higher resolution and other pretties docked. As is it looks like we get worse performance than the Vita, though at least without looking as bad.

I hope this game sees some improvements before it's western release. Frame rates in the 20s every time there's combat is awful. Maybe they should've dialed the graphics down even further for the sake of the frame rate.

Still now gaffers who own this?
I just browsed the japanese Amazon and came across it and was quite surprised to find almost nothing but positive reviews (and everyone who knows japanese amazon knows that they'd slam a game for even the most ridiculous reasons)
a read a few of them and... at least according to those, the game runs nothing like the demo. one review even mentions that he was hesitant to buy (due to the demo) and was quite surprised that the actual game was much more stable. Another guy bought all 3 versions (ps4, vita and switch) and claims that the switch version is very much comparable to the ps4 one.

guess I'll take one for the team in ~3 weeks and report back - unless somebody else does so first

I would buy this in a heartbeat if it came to NA/had an English translation.

That's currently what's stopping me, not any downgrades.

This is why we need footage of the retail copy. From this, from how that last live stream looked, I'm willing to buy the game and hope it gets released. It's crazy that no outlet has bought it to even take a look at how it runs as a comparison with DQHeroes 2 about to be released in the west on other systems. It's not like demos haven't been bad examples of the final product before. Which is why you don't review them or make a judgement about a game as a whole based on them.

Same here. It is one of my most anticipated NS games, so I hope Square Enix localizes this so I can play it on my system. I would have put in so many hours if it came out. I think I've put in quite a few hours in just the demo! Bring on the final game!!!

Damn so there's absolutely no footage of the retail version on youtube? Crazy after all this time. Who ever puts that out will be my hero

If anyone's interested, I stumbled across a video that shows footage from the retail version. Unfortunately the snippets are quite short so it hard to get a real feel for the performance, but at a glance it does look better than the demo.

Video shows footage from both I & II, with footage of II starting at 3:40.
