Honestly, what does Microsoft need to do with Scorpio to solidify your purchase?

For me personally, I don't really think there is anything realistic they could do to make me buy a Scorpio.

To one thing that could get me to buy one is great exclusives that are only on Scorpio (not PC too) and I just don't see it happening. I don't really care for any of their current franchises and nothing that they have announced so far is a system seller for me.
If they had a lineup like early 360 with stuff like Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2 , Tales of Vesperia, big new genre defining franchises like gears, etc then mabye I'd consider it. But that's no longer the type of games MS would invest in, and from a business perspective they are probably right.

I'm fine with my Ps4 pro for the moment. For me it has great balance between power and exlusives. If I eventually feel like I need more power I would just build a PC since it will still get all big Microsoft releases and has a bunch of other exclusive games and features.

It depends on what MS offers with Scorpio beyond uprezzed XBO games and, also, how Sony counters Scorpio between reveal and launch. I'd rather not own two HD consoles that basically do the same thing so I'll give Sony a chance to stop my itchy buy now finger.

Nothing really.

I think it's gonna be an awesome machine, just like Switch... but... in the end i won't buy either. Don't need it imo. And give me Halo play anywhere and there's little to be played in my xbox other than bluray movies.

Sony is milking some of their IPs too. Dont get why people ignore this.

Microsoft has a new IP this year coming with Sea of Thieves.

The issue is they also greenlight more new IP's and don't meddle with the developer. gearsm forza, halo all have microtransactions, fable was a F2P game and the start of games as a service.

People don't fucking want that. They want games to be games. If they want to play a F2P style game they play it on PC or on console. They don't pay 59.99 to have a page where microtransactions are all over the place.
Horizon and a lot of the Japanese games released this year show that people want games to just be games.
Sea of theives is another game that looks like games as a service and looks like a game built heavily around youtube/twitch streamers as a social game. Instead of it being a pirate game you can play by yourself or online with a friend.

Have not seen anything single player related for that. And RARE is known for their single player games.
Sony has greenlite so many projects microsoft pales in comparison which is why there's so many threads right now on the current state of xbox.

Sony doesn't need to do anything they are the market leader. And sales have shown people care more about games/ and value more than a beefy console. They don't need to counter anything. All they need to do is show games, which is what they have been doing. The PS4 pro is there for people who want it but obviously isn't their main focus, it's games. Which in the end is all that matters.

Native 4k Star wars BF2, UHD Blu-Ray and knowing that all multiplats are better on Scorpio.. that's it and that's very likely.

I can't see myself using my PS4 Pro for anything but 1 or 2 PS exclusives once the Scorpio is out.

create a high end Switch competitor that's like a miniSurfacePro with a ton of AAA 3rd party titles and exciting exclusives

I don't see how they could for me, I have an Xbox One and haven't played it since ROTTR (eventually just gave it to my brother), 4K or VR aren't selling points for me and I don't care enough about the mid gen power jumps to pay for a console that just plays the same games as the other 2 I own. Some new triple A I.Ps would get me interested in the Xbox platform again, but I'd just get them on my fat XB1.

Yeah I don't think they can for me. I have a PC anyway, but the only games I'm loosely interest in are Sea of Thieves and Crackdown. They don't have the studios to sell me a system anymore. To be honest my interest in the brand died off about a decade ago and nothing they've done has pulled me back in. I've basically just come to accept that their direction isn't appealing to me anymore.

Honestly, they probably can't unless they suddenly start showing new games from franchises I care about. If the Scorpio is showcased with Gears, Halo of Forza then i'm not interested. For multiplats I have my gaming PC.
Maybe if they announced it as a decent pre-built PC with a disc slot for Xbox games? I'm not in the market for that right now but I might be once I upgrade my PC in a few years.

So while i'm interested in finally seeing what all the hubbub has been about, they'd have to do some downright miraculous shit if they want me on-board. I don't see how they could.
Specs alone certainly aren't going to do the trick for me.

They cannot convince people with 4K because we already have a 4K console. People don't know the difference between native and checkerboard (als Scorpio will use checkerboard). Both console can do native 4K, so at this point it won't be any big selling point.

Their biggest problem are games. And not Halo, Gears, and Forza...For me, i don't see any point to buy a Scorpio. I don't care if it is 6TF or something...they just don't have the studios and games Sony has, and i don't think they ever will.

I kind of want MS to go all out

Hardware:
Raven Ridge APU
12GB GDDR5
6TF Vega based GPU
4K HDMI 2.0 out (having the announced sync tech would be a bonus)
HDMI in
HDR10 support
UHD Blu-ray player
Gigabit Ethernet
802.11ac wireless
At least 3 USB 3.1 ports (Gen 2 would be great)
Kinect support (no need for an adapter)
£450 max price (excluding Kinect)

What I would also like but aren't deal breakers:
3.2GHz Raven Ridge APU (to maybe help some BC games - I know clock speeds between CPU architectures are not 1 to 1 matches but getting it as similar as the 360 might help)
4+ USB 3.1 Gen 2 ports
Dolby Vision support for video
Bluetooth support for headsets/mics/devices
4K HDMI 2.0 in
Extra RAM such as 1GB+ of DDR3 RAM to help the console OS and/or apps

Games:
Crackdown 3 in 4K
Forza 7 in 4K at 60fps
Existing games like Halo 5 and Sunset Overdrive updated to take advantage of extra power
FIFA 18 in 4K at 60fps
Announce more AAA games exclusive to the Xbox platform that are Play Anywhere and let me play with friends and family on PC and standard Xbox Ones

If they announce some big exclusives coming to microsoft this E3, and also if that's the system where RDR2 plays better, I'll consider upgrading my XB1.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
A few years ago, a great looking Halo would have convinced me. But now with limited time, the idea of adding another platform to my already heavily backlogged PS4 and my new Switch is fucking absurd.

I genuinely wish Xbox the best because I think the more platforms thrive the better, but my days of having every platform are long gone.

For me it needs to run games on par to high/ultra settings on PC and MS needs to show be commited to developing new games and I will buy it eventually.
To asure a day one purchase, it needs, beside what I mentioned above, to have features not present in curent consoles and fix all the problemas with the X1.

As long as it's reasonably priced ≈ £399 I'm getting one. I didn't go for an S because I wanted Scorpio.

I've got a mid range PC for certain genres like RTS games but I'm spending more and more time on my xbox

60 fps... that's all I want. I dont' care if there is a default minimum 1080p 60fps that microsoft require for certification but that is the single biggest reason I always play every game I can on PC.

6TF is PLENTY of power to breeze through 1080/60 so if Scorpio is released and it's at least doing that on all the AAA games, I'll jump on it in a heartbeat.

This is literally a fantasy. Those specs will never be that price at this time.

If all 1st party games are still going to PC, then I have no reason to own one
Agreed. But even then I barely have interest in their out put right now. As someone who's been a long time fan of Forza, Gears, and Halo, I think I'm pretty much done with those. 4k isn't all of a sudden going to make Halo at its former glory again. It's not going to pull me away from the competitors' lineups that are far more diverse and exciting.

Nothing. I have a good gaming PC, and I'm locked into the PS4 ecosystem console wise at this point.

I hope it's cool and all my Xbox diehard buddies are happy though.

They'd have to get a good enough library to win me over. I ended up selling my Xbone because all I played was KI on it and I wanted a Switch. A lot of the exclusives I wanted on Xbox were either cancelled or not as good as I was hoping. Only KI lived up to the expectations.

They'd have to do a lot in terms of exclusives to get me to buy another one of their consoles, and I don't see it happening.

They need a better strategy for platform diversity

I own an X1 now, and it doesn't see much action. I mainly use it for BC. Power alone won't change anything for me

My tastes may tilt too hard toward Japanese titles--I'm not really their (MS) target demographic, I guess

It needs interesting games.

I have an Xbone and BARELY use it. It's basically just a UHD player. So I don't need one of those because I already have one. It needs interesting games.

I think I'm just gonna be passing on MS until next gen if they can manage to get back on track

Pretty much what I'v done all this gen. I put money into my PC, and am finally replacing my 6 year old motherboard and cpu this year. I have no interest in anything xbox. Gears of war 4 was the only thing that I'v bought from xbox and that was on PC.
There isn't anything after scalebound got canned that I can get excited about. Unless they pull some games from their chest like Crimson skies mech assault or something along those lines they have lost me until they show they have a compelling reason for me to come back.

Same currently is for Nintendo. When they have more games and have revised the hardware issues with the switch and prices for accessories come down I'm not buying one.
I'll wait till end of this year or sometime next year before I buy a switch. When I buy a system I buy more than one game.

i think if 90% of games opt for noticeable visual upgrades (textures, poly count, effects, volumetrics, lighting, shadows, filtering, AA etc and/or 60fps as standard framerate boosts, it could sway me purely for the third party games.

but if they focus on 4k i'm honestly not going to be able to see the difference between my PRO and a scorpio at viewing distances anyway. so there isn't much point for me.

it's literally all about a perceived improvement and if it's worth an entire change of platform to attain it. i need everything they show to look better than horizon zero dawn on the Pro basically...sell it to me...because native 4k in a game like halo 5 ain't going to cut it.

They would have to probably give them away for free for me. I haven't bought an Xbox One as nothing there made me want it, occasionally I think the Backwards Compatibility would be cool but then I calm down, so unless the Scorpio has games that blow the PC and PS4 out of the water - and lets be fair the Exclusives you get on PC and PS4 has been pretty good especially of late on PS4 - then I don't see much of a reason to get one. I have a PC, I have a PS4 Pro - I'm good at the moment. If you're dialed into the Xbox Live stuff then I can see you getting one but I care not about that kind of thing.

If it came with HoloLens; a ton of games to be integrated with it, and All of it be under $500.... I'd blip it on my radar.

Otherwise, there's nothing they can do to sell me on it....

Unless Cyberpunk 2077 and/or Dragon's Dogma 2 became exclusive to it... I would have to bite the bullet then.

Reinvent themselves. In essence they do what Sony does, but worse a lot of the time. I don't need that.

Becoming a first party powerhouse seems not the way they want to go.
Maybe creating a more open console market. Only lightly curated like steam was before greenlight? Plus apps for everything from everyone? They have the OS base, software skills and developer tools to support that.

I have to admit that this still smells like the nineties dream of the central box in the living room people actually don't need anymore.

Invest in a good diversity of 1st and 2nd party developers that aren't Forza and Halo or Gears.

And if you are going to keep your two major franchises alive, don't let them be mismanaged as bad as Halo has been, or as bland and uninteresting as Gears.

Of course that's not going to happen, so I will most likely skip their console and be completely fine.

I think that train has left the station with Xbox Play Anywhere and the truly few exclusives that are not available on PC.

There's limited reasons I would need a console, especially a Xbox branded console, at this point. Those would be: 1) the ability to play a new release and sell it after completion. With inability to resell digital purchase, I'm often waiting for a 50% to 90% off sale to purchase a game on PC. 2) Being able to to play multiplayer with a controller on more even footing. 3) Play games that may not make it to PC or that will be time delayed, such as RDR2. 4) The limited truly Xbox exclusives... I still have digital purchases tied to my account for RDR, Halo MCC, Halo 5 and Gears 2, 3, and Judgement... not enough to warrant the extra box however.

I don't see myself buying a 4k TV for years, so I'll probably buy a discounted or used Xbox One or Xbox One S later on, or maybe never - there is so much to occupy my gaming time I've still yet to play on my PC and Wii U.

There's nothing they can do for me. I have a gaming PC and I have an Xbox One and with their policy about most future first party games being on PC, I'm out on MS consoles. I hope you make a lot of money Microsoft but I'm not going to get one.

As long as 1st party games keep going to PC there is nothing they can do for me. Im all set with my PC, Pro and Switch

Im interested to see what the hardware is but the next time ill buy a console now will be when we get a proper next gen ie: PS5 or Xbox Two or whatever it may be.

"Don't screw up the reveal like with the original XB1" and "Don't price it extortionately in the UK" are the only things they need to do to get a purchase from me.

I want a UHD Blu-Ray player but already owning an original XB1 I can't justify buying a One S just for that. Scorpio's spec bump makes it easier to justify the purchase.

I need Scorpio games to take complete advantage of the hardware to the max.

I feel like on Pro, the games dont take full advantage and it just makes the upgrade seem less substantial.

If some features arent gonna work on regular xbox one games, then cut those features from the base model. Theyll never do it, but they should.

You misread that. A lot of people see a better value in a PC upgrade than in another Xbox.

Exactly this. Definitely worth putting your money into upgrading your system over buying another Xbox, especially since all the Xbox exclusives are going to PC anyways.

Yes but then youll be playing against mouse and keyboard people. If you like using a controller, this isnt an advantage for that person.
