Nintendo Direct on April 12 (3PM PT, Switch/3DS, mainly Splarms)

Yes. A new one. Set 2 years after the first.

So happy they did this. Obviously multiplayer Splatoon is where it's at, but I love acclimating with how a game works in sp before hopping online. And frankly, Splatoon has too much style and personality to not explore that in a single player mode with bosses and a narrative.

I didn't expect much beyond Splatoon and ARMs. I came away wanting everything but Payday...and I may pick that up if it has local multiplayer and it's not $60. This thing is getting more western third party support than I thought it would. Granted I initially assumed nothing.

Good to see Minecraft coming so early. I don't have much interest, but it along with Mario Kart in April should help sustain interest through the summer.

If this was a random Direct before e3, I can't wait for the real deal!

I know what I said earlier probably got drowned out, but people should be really hyped for Nintendos E3.

This Direct was pretty much perfect in flow and game after game. So much better than a conference. Like not even close. I don't care for the audiences reaction. Nintendo may do a live conference so people can say "Nintendo was there", but this Direct and format was so good regardless if you care about the games or not.

Nintendo is going all out and my hype is through the roof for their E3!

Nintendo's spring and summer line up is all multiplayer. They really want people to share their Switch games with friends and draw in more purchases.

heavily favoring local multiplayer has been Nintendo's strategy since 2004ish. It's fun for parties but I only go to a few parties each year and not even the Wii could get my parents into gaming. Maybe playing video games at parties and or as a family is more common in Japan.

There was one thing missing in this Direct.

Yooka-Laylee. I already bought it on PC yesterday but I can barely play these times when I'm at home. Having it on the go, I could clear it in a week. Hopefully we'll get a statement from Playtonic soon.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm guessing after it's reception, Nintendo probably lost interested in spending screen time on it.

I know it, along with their inability to confirm a physical release killed my interest. Even if they manage it, it'll launch much higher priced after the other two inevitably price collapse. Still haven't received a penny of my refund when I requested it either.

Miitopia looks so fun, I love the Streetpass/Tomodachi Life style so it is a game right up my alley!

Amiibo are.... sigh, I need so many of them! Want want want! My wallet could have done without the double up Smash ones though. Please Nintendo. >_<

Minecraft on Switch is gonna be huge, especially in Japan. I've kinda gone off the thing but even I'm interested in a portable version on a console I actually use. Very smart to get that thing out ASAP!!

I just wish they'd hurry up and get the Switch VC info out there so we can be disappointed in it already.

Right now it's WAH WHERE IS THE VC INFO?! But once they announce it we're just gonna be like WAH I DON'T LIKE THIS INFO! SWITCH VC SUX.

So after looking at my current 3DS backlog and all the stuff that's coming I think waiting for a revision/price drop on the Switch will be pretty feasible for me.

Disappointed people I have a question: what exactly were you expecting when the headline showed, with explicit wording, what it would be about? Surely Nintendo would not showcase games that would outshine their headliners for the direct (they were not hiding it in any way shape or form). Why not show a bunch of little to mid tier type of games, which is what they did.

Were you guys expecting more 1st party reveals/3rd party megatons? That makes no sense at all. I swear that one direct in January, after the Wii U's release (2013 I believe), has skewed peoples perceptions/expectations of these directs, and has been setting themselves up for disappointment ever since. That direct was just a perfect storm of luck (and games being announced 2-3 years in advance). I doubt Nintendo wants to put themselves in that position again.

That Direct was in response to Wii U sales falling of a cliff. It also didn't work.

I think this is almost always a bad mindset to have no matter which company we are talking about.

I had low expectations and I'm still disappointed.

Splatoon 2 and Fire Emblem Echoes are the only games in this direct that interest me at all.

Yep. I want this now.

Fortunately I still have FF11, thimbleweed Park and Zelda in my backlog to keep me busy.

After digesting, in still quite pleased with how this direct turned out. Great format, fast and fun. 3DS content didn't do much for me as i don't have one, but owners should be happy with the level if support it's getting. Switch content was great:

Arms - great new character, 4 player mode, loads to unlock, hints of single player content with target modes (there's got to be more)

Splatoon 2 - I'm not a competitive multiplayer gamer tbh, but I'm still intrigued by this. Horde mode looks a lot of fun and single player mode content still to come.

Other - i didn't expect anything like Fate Extella or Battle Chasers, but I'm likely going to buy both (performance pending on the for? I)

We're there any new games announced on the Japanese Direct?

Nights of Azure 2 and some Senran Kagura title.

Why is anyone disappointed? The direct even says it will have an Arms/Splatoon focus... E3 is so close... It's good they got all of these stuff out the way here
Some people were expecting Dragon quest XI because the Square Enix rep said yesterday that he couldn't reveal whether the Switch version was coming the same day or not :lol

Just came to the realization that Minecraft is the big game for May.

I don't see how any kid who has Minecraft 3DS would want this game and the platform but if Nintendo is quick to release their media features that makes it a proper alternative to a tablet then it will have the right mix of features to be distinct from the 3DS and a tablet.

Were there any indies covered in this Direct? Y-L was covered in the indie Direct, wasn't it?

When did Minecraft come out for 3DS?

i think street fighter will do fairly well at retail. switch owners seem really on board for retro and pixel games.

Yeah, I think that was intentional and Nintendo may have even made some sort of deal to get it to the platform as fast as it did considering how long it took for the Wii U to get a port. They left May wide open, have a Mario pack available at launch, and have a timed eShop exclusivity for the game as well so I think all the signs point to Minecraft being the big game of the month in my eyes.

I think it's worth noting that the only portable versions previously were the Pocket Edition (which was not on the 3DS). This will not only be the first time a console version was portable, but it will have console controls as the default input (as opposed to touchscreen controls) as well as the console features, which I believe are closer to the PC version than the Pocket Edition which is more limited in some ways, including world size, if I'm not mistaken. The Switch version will also have split screen multiplayer, which I believe is a console thing and not a Pocket Edition thing. Yet, besides the Pocket Edition being the least developed version, it also is the highest selling, which means that not only do people want to be able to take Minecraft on the go, now they'll be able to take the console version on the go and also be able to play the same game on a TV as well.

It has some massive sales potential for the platform.

I am still surprised that certain 3DS games (Like ever oasis or the kirby games) don't simultaneously come out on the Switch.

Why do they announce Holiday 2017 3DS Only games when (hopefully) Switch is replacing the 3DS.....

Huge established userbase VS not huge established userbase. That easy.
