Dragon Quest XI 13 mins of PS4 city gameplay, 3DS 13 mins of the game intro

So excited! I can't believe it's only a month and a half away. I have the 3DS version (and the day one guide) pre-ordered. Went with 3DS over PS4 mainly because of the price, but also I need something I can play while on the go and while the PS4 one looks really nice in parts the early footage looked "off", as someone else in this thread mentioned. Plus, I know my wife will end up playing the switch version, so I can still see the same story in a prettier form.

Don't care about lack of VA because a DQ game would feel weird with voices. The use of MIDI music on the PS4 version is kind of weird though, especially as I really liked it in the VII remake.

PS4 version looks amazing and boy is it gorgeous! I can't agree at all with anyone saying the city looks empty.

Cmon Oregano, let's at least wait until the localization is announced. Worst case Switch is region free.

Something tells me he'd prefer those versions not localized, just so that he has another bullet to shoot at Nintendo.

I really wish the two versions were different games (at least story) so I could play both.

They're different games in most ways except story.
I'm approaching it like, I play the 3DS versions and then I don't have to wait 10+ years for a remake because there's already one available for PS4.

I'm scared that the 3DS version won't be localized, I hoped the Switch version would be that one and you "switch" between 2D/3D with a button.

It's the music for me. It cheapens the entire game.

Those string samples are as harsh as ever.

I like the music in DQ composition-wise, but the instruments they use always makes me turn off the music entirely after 10 hours. Well, that and repeating what feels like the same five tunes for the entire game.

Is the 2D/3D thing still only for the opening of the game? They keep showing it as such in other videos of it too. I thought I heard that.

You go to the church to change between 2d and 3d later into the game.

SE already said they wouldn't talk about it until after the release of the PS4 and 3DS versions.

I don't understand Japanese so region free makes no difference to me.

I'm not even dignifying that with a response.

Yeah, that's another issue, for sure. I remember after finishing DQVII (the PS1 version), I wanted to claw my ears out after 100 hours because the soundtrack, while high quality is also extremely limited for the game's length.

Sometimes it's a blessing to be in a habit of gaming on mute lol
I would mute this game anyway until they get a new composer

The whole town exploration thing
Does it make DQ more progressive than FF in that regard

this late in 3DS' life it's a legit concern but if even DQVII wound up with a localization it'd be a weird choice to pass this one up

Hmmm...maybe this is how I'll justify my desire to get both versions...

Whew, NOT a fan of that music - the game itself looks gorgeous though. I'm quite enamored with the 3DS version in particular, though it may run like ass on my regular 3DS XL.

There is something off with a PS4 version that I can't figure out. It feels like the game was made in a tight budget...

While it looks pretty by DQ standards, it's still kinda lifeless and static, and the animation is really simple and basic. In some ways it resembles something from like the PS2 generation. And frankly this town, while decently-sized, looks pretty bland. I don't know. The more footage I see of this game the less I'm impressed.

I'm surprised that the PS4 version's city is so sparse. Dragon Quest CAN get away with repeating NPCs after all.

After actually watching it with sound, it's the absolute mess on the audio department is what's causing things to not come together for the PS4 version. It just doesn't fit the look at all.

I can see myself playing both the PS4 version, and then the 3DS version in 2D mode afterwards. It'd feel like two different games with the same story.

Both versions are looking good to me. I will get both if 3DS version will get localized (otherwise PS4 for sure). Come on SE, reveal localization info!

Great art style, but I totally agree the animations could be much better for PS4 version. Not impressed at all. Still interested though.

I wonder how Switch version would compare with PS4 version. Since it uses UE4 parity will be there so not much differences as UE4 doesn't go too in depth optimisation of hardware making each platform version same looking and running equivalently

Looks pretty nice. Nothing mindblowing but it looks like a proper current generation DQ8 esque title

expecting DQ Heroes like downgrades. game looks around in Switch's ballpark just with obvious setbacks

The PS4 footage looks fucking incredible, I love how spacious that city seems, and really dig the way it looks, I really hope the switch version is like the PS4 (probably downgraded) version, because it looks solid. 3DS version looks really good too, the 2D screen is incredibly charming, it looks like a solid SNES version of the game.

The size of the city is nice, but it does look more like an old era rpg adapted to better graphics in terms of the life in the city. Ever since the recent slate of trailers something has looked just a bit off.
