Geoff Keighley: Scorpio rumored to cost $499 (he's right, flawless victory)

Aiii

So not worth it
I'm confused, why would Geoff say this, a few hours before the MS conference?

Is there a chance that he said this in order for people to get disappointed now but at the conference to anounce a lower price and everyone lose their minds?

He said it because he had a reliable source (supposedly) and it is news and he is a journalist.

I can afford it. I'll get it at 499 because I'm a dumb motherfucker. That doesn't mean it's in any way a good business decision. Even when you use the tag of "premium" device.
Why are you dumb for buying something that you want at the MSRP? I'm buying it because I think what's inside the box is worth it. I wouldn't call myself dumb for it either. Some people have their price point limit regardless of the hardware, and I can respect that. Some people will buy it regardless because they want it based on numerous reasons that suits them. You are not dumb for buying it, if you have the money that you worked hard for.

then scorpio is targeted for who? if not to already in enthusiastic gaming from users.

certainly not to massbase with that price , playstation have better marketing deals bundles games .

who the fuck is audience for scorpio?
It's for Xbox whales.

There was an interview like half a year ago where Spencer said that they wanted to cater to the diehard fans. The ones spending thousands of dollars.

If it's called Xbox Scorpio instead of Xbox One Scorpio, that creates a marketing problem. As the average consumer will think it's a brand new console rather than a mid-gen upgrade.

lol what the hell is Keighley doing? I'm really confused by his behavior.
Probably disappointed at the price just like the rest of us. I like him. He's no lap dog. Hopefully we'll see headlines with a negative spin in mainstream media too if the price stands tonight. We know the fans will buy it anyway, and hype it up like crazy, question is if the negativity among the rest of us could push MS to drop the price. They've made changes before. It's surprising to see that they've learned so little from past mistake though. If/When Sony drops the price on Pro to $299, how are MS ever going to be able to convince someone to buy a Scorpio??

Good point. That doesn't mean the consumer base will bite on the product. Xbox One is playing catchup, and MS has to offer a good bargain in order for Scorpio to succeed outside of the hardcore fan base.

Thing is Scorpio is entirely directed to the hardcore market. It's the whole point of the console existing in the first place. Those outside the hardcore market will get the S whether or not Scorpio is $499 or $399.

No matter what, Scorpio is not the system that will help MS catch up.

A 6TF machine for 499 is a fucking steal. Only a GTX 1080 (which is 6TF) is 450.

Expecting less than 499 is not knowing how this works.

"But ps4 pro is 399"

That is 4TF, not 6. Scorpio was going to be more expensive since the very beginning.
Pricing is more complex than sum of parts.

Fair enough, although I'm not sure about 3 points out of 2, that faster ram/hdd costs that much more, and that it needs more expensive cooling than PS4.

I'm not sure if 4k blueray drive is that different from the old one, ti needs to be ready for a tad bigger throughput, but uses the same blue laser to my knowledge.

4K UHD drives are completely different than standard Blu-Ray drives. UHD discs go up to 100GB triple layer. Normal BD drives can not read those.

As someone who bought an Xbox One S last year, i will never give MS a single dollar after enduring its horrible UI and frequent controller disconnections. Not sure what happened to MS after the 360.

"No one man should have all that power."

Because they can't afford it

If Geoff is lying then he should be banned from GAF , in my eyes for certain if this is controlled leak or something his respect and credibility will be below zero.

fuck that shit

Wtf. Geoff is good people. He can't control if MS changes the price. He is just letting us know what he heard.

760 Canadian after tax. No fucking way, that's utterly ridiculous. I love gaming but not that much for a console. Better off buying a 1080 with that.

500 lmao. I have a feel the conference is going to be a bust game wise as well. This is from an xbox fan as well.

I feel it'll be a lot of cool stuff from existing IPs, and probably one or two new things that make people excited, but considering how the games have to run on the lower end models I can't imagine seeing anything that'll make me go "Hoooolly sshiiiit". I mean there'll be things there fidelity wise, I still remember the Killzone reveal for the PS4 and I was like "So when are these graphics ingame? Wait-what!?" so that'll be cool.

Bar being told about Forza 7 being 4k/60fps etc I think a lot of what we will see will not look that...new? It'll be fun and exciting but nothing that sets the world on fire.

I just hope they talk about Play Anywhere a bit because even though I bought an XB1 for MCC, Play Anywhere is great for me.

Geoff ain't getting paid to leak. He got info maybe it pissed him off so he leaked it. MS would not shadow box with the price in the rehearsals because if it leaks they lose control of he narrative just like they have now, now if it changes it looks like they panicked and changed it. Then its down to who you believe.

ITT: People having a crisis because Microsoft shit the bed with this console from the very start and this was their last chance to retake ground from Sony.

Even WITH the Scorpio at $399, it was unlikely to take much, if anything, from Sony. That ship sailed LONG ago!

We're both dummies. I'm sorry, but I have spoken.

Either this is a publicity stunt or very premature. We will know the price for sure in just two or three hours. Geoff Keighley coming out so bluntly with the price before Microsoft sounds like a way to get attention. It'll just hurt his credibility if he's wrong. Though, he's had exclusives before.

Can't believe all the people scoffing at $499.

Tons of people think the PS4 pro is worth it at $399 and it's a kind of a joke of an upgrade. I bought a PS4 pro, but I'll happily pay $100 more than that thing for a significantly more powerful machine.

Maybe if the PS4 pro had a UHD player. Based on current market prices for UHD players, that drive alone is worth the price difference.

If the PS4 Pro seems great at $400 and $500 is obscene for a much moire powerful machine with a UHD drive, then this clearly isn't for you. Then again, it's Microsoft, they can't seem to win around here.

The Scorpio isn't significantly more powerful than the PS4 Pro. It's ~6 TF vs 4.2 TF. That's relatively about the same difference as the vanilla PS4 and Bone. The CPUs are nearly the same, meaning you aren't even going to see a lot of framerate improvements. The only actual difference will be Scorpio will probably have more games running at native 4K whereas the the same games on the Pro will use checkerboard 4K.

1080 has more beef in it, not measurable in tflops.
6TF is basically RX 580

But calling it Xbox One Scorpio also presents problems

Parents might confuse it with Xbox One S and in general it'll be a seen as just another Xbox, the special nature of it might be lost with the One in it's name.

Polygon seem right for once.

$499 dooms this to being the niche choice for fans of a system already selling poorly compared to the competition.

If it's a premium device only aimed at a small subset of the public , why the fuck bother ? MS need a system that will appeal to the masses at a price people want to pay to bring people back into the fold, but instead go for a "premium" price point and expect...........what exactly ? That appealing to the nerdiest of nerds somehow that'll translate into yuuuuge sales ?

If one of the most hardcore gaming message board site is having trouble swallowing a $500 console, then who the fuck, may I ask, is this console aimed at?

I don't think GAF is the best bellweather for this particular situation. I haven't seen people going crazy like this on other message boards.

You can easily build a better pc than a pro for 500, at least in the US. Scorpio is harder but you can probably do it for not much more

Are you counting the Windows license in that price? Also case, input devices? (I'm excluding monitor). Seriously, post a PCpartspicker build or something if it's doable, I'd probably get such a PC.

Minus the input devices a system with an i3 an RX 470 and everything else you'd need (case, PSU, Windows license) is $600 but I'm not sure where that stacks against the PS4 Pro.
