State of Decay 2 trailer (XB1/PC, Spring 2018)

I know someone working on the game so knew about the delay before it was announced. They think the trailer wasn't a good representation of the game and told me this before the trailer aired today, and the game was delayed because it needs more work but they think the game will come out good.

Basically Undead didn't want to show a trailer yet because the game is still buggy and in work but had to, but they're happy they got more time to work on it. Just thought I'd share that bit at least.

...in 2017. With MS' money behind it. On the world's most powerful console.

Step your shit up, Undead. My hope is that the game is still early and will look better by release, but, this was disappointing.

They could pin some of the blame with SoD1 on Cryengine, no such luck this this around...

Microsoft's backing doesn't instantly mean they'll get a huge amount of funding. I'd take engaging gameplay mechanics over janky animations anytime all the time.

Wow, it really does look like a remake/HD version of the original. Some areas like the church, the farm with an inclined roof and the military compound looks way too similar.

Would love to heard about the new features. For example:

*4 person Co-Op
*It will have 3 large maps (at launch) - each one as big as the original. And that when you transition, your resources will transfer as well.
*Seems to have larger buildings and extended vistas.
*There seems to be a new quick "side step"/dash ability, that can be used to evade attacks.
*You can apparently jump at the back of those big zombies and kill it from there (mini game, like Dragon's Dogma?).
*There are 2 NPCs fighting multiple enemies with knife/machetes only (and a knife execution), so hope this means the CQC has been improved.
*Guess there are more negative statuses, like "being cold" (think hungry already existed).

Pretty disappointing that it's scheduled for next year. Was hoping Oct-Dec at least.
I might try to replay the original - never tried the expansion stuff since didn't sound that great (I prefer solo'ing).

Truth be told, I'm a bit glad this is coming next year. It means that I can get a new GPU and have a PC that can run this at full settings.

The first SoD is one of my personal favourite games, a true gem. So naturally I'm really hyped for this one.

If I'm being honest I thought this looked really really rough.

Never played the first but can't say this trailer did much to convince me to jump on board

Hope this game is a bit more polished by the time it comes out, you could kind of excuse the jank in the first game because it didn't cost that much but as far as I know this is going to be a full priced game.

my friend and I couldn't believe how long and focused this trailer was considering how poor the animations were. It reminded me of a fan-made video made in GTA

The trailer went waaaay too long

Especially for such a poor showing of the game... seriously, the animations are terrible wtf

trailer was way too long for a game that looks like 'it's the old one but better'

i still want to play it but yeesh

This was an extreme disappointment for me, in one of the games I was most looking forward to from the conference. I still don't even know what I watched. :(

Damn, that looked so rough. I feel like this game has been in development for years already, and I love the concept, but for some reason I expected this to look way better. Looks like State of Decay 1, same shitty animations, etc.

I loved the part where the lady is fucking zombies up that are literally surrounding her in melee range, and then the party opens up with fully automatics right at her.

I thought the first one wasn't very good, played it for 3-4 hours and dumped it.

Coop could get me to play it though, assuming it's better than the original.

Count me in day one. Biggest disappointment is that it's not launching this year.

Undead Labs partnered with MS Studios for SoD2, so no, not really.

They did the same with the first but it was still an indie game. We don't know the team size, size of the world, number of assets, etc. So we can't label this as AAA when it may not be one.

Looke great to me. Not sure what people are getting at. Big step up from the first one.

Yup I've been following the development of this as much as I can and I'm excited.

Loved the first game but really wanted to be able to play coop in some way. I wanted drop-in coop where someone could bring a character to help, but I have to imagine they still have the same single player in there.

Not sure what you mean but co-op has been confirmed. You can drop into other people's games and bring back all the stats and loot you gain there.

The first SoD was a bit janky so I don't know why anyone would have expected it to all be gone this time around. And for me the jank was part of the charm.

SOD2 with coop??? That was my biggest wish from the original. I can't wait, but now the question is do I buy a xbox or build a new PC?
Build a new PC is most likely the answer.

I can understand some of the concerns here, but considering the delay to 2018 and what Dusk Golem said, they're still going to iron out a lot of the kinks. Being a big fan of the original, I thought this presentation looked great, and I'm excited to see how it comes along.

Weak trailer for sure but I thought some of the footage looked incredible technically. Those animations though. Yikes.

Pretty sure they've said the game world is at least three times the size fo the one in the original and considering how dull a lot of that world was...

Didn't the remaster go for near full price? Is this 60$? One the main reasons the first did so well was the price for the content you got. Not sure this will rock the charts this time.

Do we know if this world will be as sparse as the first? I thought I read in a dev blog that there was more to the world. If the team hasn't blown up but they have to produce assets for a world three times larger, that could explain some things.
