Yeah if you think Gamergate's cool and have stated you're against feminism, I can't and won't listen to or trust anything you have to say on anything related to feminist topics. Because you've literally said you are against them, and have actively been working against them. Whatever integrity or credibility you may have once had in this area, is gone. Like...you don't get to support Gamergate and then say you're against harassment. Go fuck yourself.

Regarding the politics, reading his actual posts he seems okay to me. It seems a little over-the-top and narrow minded to boycott games (or any art, for that matter) because you don't agree with the creator's politics.

Seems a little over the top and narrow minded to me to be a sexist.

He doesn't seem that bad, in all honesty. He comes across more ignorant than malicious. Supporting the Gamergate movement is complete and utter bullshit. It IS a hate group, but I question if he ever really acknowledged that, or if he was one of those people that created a (very convenient) distance between the movement and the worst actions of its followers. His ignorance in regard to patriarchal systems of oppression, and his refutation through anecdotal evidence, seem to be purely ignorance based, not based on some genuine spite for women as a whole.

I still think it sucks that he identifies with a hate group, but I also don't know if his views are toxic enough to warrant an instant moral boycott for me (though I understand why many people would feel compelled to do so).

What's extreme about not wanting to materially support someone who you think is a bad person? Nobody owes him anything and that seems like a very sound reason not to give him money.

He uses SJW unironically, doesn't believe in the idea of a patriarchy, pushes a narrative of "sexual identity politics" invading science spaces, and belongs (or belonged) to a group formed to harass women.

You downplay his politics as just politics - I mean, they are politics, but they're not "just politics" - while weirdly overplaying people not wanting to support him or his work.

There's infinite media in the world, and I don't have infinite money. I've gotta make a choice about how to spend it, and so I'll choose to spend it to support people that don't say things that impact the progress of underprivileged people.

He's at best a colossal dumbass.

Nothing screams punk more than saying the patriarchy is a myth.

I believe any game made before 1997 is "essentially cave man art."
The creator and game seem pretty cool, can't wait to scoop it up.

Would you buy a game from someone affiliated with an anti-white, anti-men group?

There's also some racism and transphobia to boot - oh boy!

Agreed. I still think there needs to be a bit of a distinction between the people that are colossally stupid, and people who are genuinely hateful.

Though, once again, I think it is personally reasonable to not want to associate with anyone that aligns themselves with Gamergate.

Maybe you have it ironically but you would likely loathe the Rick Santorum advocating political views of the very person in your avatar.

But buying his game you're indirectly supporting his views

Eh, I'm OK with people doing that, as long as they understand what they're doing. What I have a real problem is when the people doing that are utterly dismissive or condescending of the reasons somebody else would find his views a big deal. There are also degrees here where everybody has their red line, but seemingly as this thread progresses this guy seems worse and worse.

Stop this stupidity. You dont know what each creator of the games you bought think of same things.

You can't know how EVERY dev feels, but if someone is blatantly open with it, why would you continue to support them? This thread would be a lot different if the people posting had to consider the amount of rape threats or racial slurs they would have to face for existing in public. It's not immature to refuse to support someone who doesn't think your human rights are valid.

Is this..The premise of the game?

Stupidity in what way? He's openly vocalized his views and stance on topics, that opens him up to criticism. It's not like people are drawing opinions out of thin air on this

So you vet the entire teams of all the games you buy? Can you share your reasearch, I'd love to read through it.

it's not an all or nothing statement y'know. there's the opportunity to see the direct creator of the game here holds positions contrary to one's views so peeps aint gonna buy it
