Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy - Review Thread

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.
With this logic, then all $5 games should be awesome. Thinking like that, a reviewer should give a low priced game extra points cause it was $2 or $5...

I liked axiom verge better than Fallout 4, neither was worth their respective launch prices in the first place.
I bought FO4 when it was $20 and AV when it was 10..
Fallout gives me more bang for my buck, as it being a longer game, but I bought it at a 3rd of the price while I waited till axiom was half the price. I still like AV better.

You could even see it as I paid more for axiom verge because it was bought at only half the price versus a third, and being a shorter game.

Price should not have bearing on a review. It's either a good game or not. How's a reviewer supposed to gauge price fairly if most get the game free anyway?

You're missing my point.

Review the game on its own merits, not on the price point. Then at the end mention if its worth the price of admission or not.

First decide if its a good game or not, then decide if its worth the asking price.

Crash still holds up today....and if your a dark souls person who decries easy games that hold your hand, you'll really enjoy crash 1

Reviews are very good.

The gamespot review is definitely a strange one though.

Its complaints in the summary make sense at least : /

I mean naturally certain design decisions are going to feel outdated and at odds with more modern graphics...but it's not a re-imagining ala FFVIIR (if it ever comes out >_<).

I don't have a problem with gamespot giving it a 6. It's just that the reviewer didn't even bother to finish the games and just banged out a 600 word essay. Just comes across as really lazy.

Boy what I would do to see Maximo Ghosts to Glory remade.....I would love to see the critical reception for it in the late 2010's.

Serious, non-baiting question: Why is the Metascore so high for what is essentially a PS1 game(s) with new models? I never played Crash as a kid, and looking up videos for the remaster (no idea which game in the trilogy it was) I was seriously turned off by the giant item UI that kept popping up and the very close behind-the-back camera, both of which feel completely out of their era. For the genre, the reviews and the price I would ordinarily be interested, but it just didn't look good to me. Is it mostly a nostalgia buy, or does the gameplay actually hold up against modern 3D platformers? Does the whole game look like the section I watched?

I've been playing the game since 6 o clock. It's now midnight.

If you like Crash, you'll love this. It's a great remaster and it feels tight, responsive and looks gorgeous. And well worth the money.

If you hate crash then obviously don't go near it. If you never played the originals but fancy some bitesize platforming fun, then get yourself stuck in and experience it.

That's my take anyway!

Crash is a good to great series of platforming games. I don't know what
section you watched, but that much is true

Because its a good to great trilogy.

Watching videos only tell half the story.

Grabbing this for 30 bucks canadian felt about the right price. Im going to keep my preorder based on this reviews and slowly beat these over time.

If anything it will be a nice break from nintendo themed platformers for me,

Sorry for butting in, but I think you mean like ACG reviews. Doesn't even use a grading scale, but clearly explains whether the price point is justified or not.

Edit: I meant to include the review. 4:10 to go until unlock....Hhhhhhhhhhh......

The 3D sections of Crash play in a style closer to 2D, actually. You're generally moving more or less in one direction either toward or away from the screen. The level design is very linear, but generally tightly-packed with jumps and obstacles. They're fun games if you're looking for a straightforward test of skill, rather than anything to do with exploration.

Sounds exactly like what I'm talking about.

Read the reviews and make your own inferences. You're not doing your "non-baiting" question any favors here by taking the same stance trolls have taken since the announcement of this game.

Alright, I think I will have to take a closer look at this one.

I thought I made it pretty clear that I was genuinely asking. And this whole thread is people commenting on how particular reviews are unreadably bad, lol.

Commenting on price sort of dates a review for me. Most things should hold up over time. Obviously price is the only thing guaranteed to change at some point. You may say patches but not guaranteed.

I can't imagine this game getting less than that 6 anywhere. Even if they just put out the original games I feel like theyd average in the 80's

uhhh 3 games at an average time of 6-7 hours each for $40 is not enough content? K.

That's 21 hours. It took me over 300 to beat The Witcher 3 and experience everything in the base game. Yes, it is an apples to oranges comparison (rpg vs platformer) but that is the logic that reviewer is using, I assume.

That would be incredibly silly logic for a professional reviewer to use.

Most games don't take 20 hours, nor should they all have to be designed to do so. This compilation is an awesome value, the reviewers who think otherwise are simply idiots.

Seriously, it's 13 dollars per game fully remade, when usually a simple HD port runs way more for ANY game.

You're not paying $13 per game, you're paying a full $40 up front plus tax. Never understood why people would argue that it's only x dollars per hour, be it a game or online multiplayer subscription. I personally am buying the trilogy after work tomorrow and feel the value is sufficient but am not about to burn this journo at the stake over a score I don't like. The posters criticizing the reviewer for not completing the game and shitting out a 600 word essay have a fair point but it feels like everyone else is just joining the 'gamespot sucks because they dislike something I enjoy" bandwagon.

EDIT: And it's not even gamespot as a whole. This is the opinion of one dude who works or freelances for them.

What engine is this running on?

Here's a very good article detailing how they made the game - https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017...sh-bandicoot-was-rebuilt-nearly-from-scratch/

Went to check if stores would sell this today. Nope lol, but I was so eager to buy something that I almost bit on UC4 for 25 bucks, despite having finished the game last year already.

Price is a huge factor for everyday consumers and if you don't include a content-to-value judgment at the launch price in your review you are totally out of touch, period.

Book prices can vary wildly and very few book reviews address the content-to-value proposition in the review itself, so I guess most of them are out of touch.
